Biggest complaint from Final Kombat was too much JC and Peacemaker. Both characters got nerfed, so hopefully we start seeing more character variety in top 8 and pools. So from that standpoint seems like a step in the right direction.

He was fine imo. Now comes Tanya/Goro, Kung Lao/Goro from the top of my mind. Are these main characters getting nerfed next? :(

Idk, that's not the way to go imo.
I think he will be fine, his strings are still great, but now he has to be more careful throwing out random torpedos (which can still be made safe with kano, stryker and khameleon, mind you).

Also good changes to Peacemaker. A lot of characters should be able to punsh torpedo with a dash up or a kameo. Forcefield will be punishable by some if he's not careful when he activates it. Combined with the other changes Peacemakers will have to think a bit more and autopilot a bit less.

Special Forces Sonya Up-player
I like the Sonya change, that move was a bit useless, and the times I thought it could be handy it's always been to slow to work, now it might. Being overhead and +1 is a nice bonus.

Was hoping for Sektor recharge buffs but oh well.

Needs to Johnny and Peacemaker look good, Kenshi and Ashraf just got better I have a feeling.

Small patch all around but overall most of the changes that were made could be impactful
Nitara has a safer way to hitconfirm S12 (tho there's still an Armour Gap) and might have slightly better combos
Sub has slightly better combos and more team options thanks to the F123 buff (I could see Sonya and Scorp being good for him now)
Geras got a slight buff to one of his better pokes and maybe a long acclaimed better hitbox on Sandstorm
Havik's F13 buff means he has some gimmicky mix with F12 and F1 > DB1 on top of a better combo ender, and more plus frames off of S4 is always nice

Reptile/Sonya might be a good team now. Oh you blocked my overhead? How about some PLUS PRESSURE. Also, rings for zoning that recharge fast

Ayy I really like the Geras snap buff! Gonna be very helpful in snapping on reaction, can't tell you how many times I've been just barely hit out of its startup, hopefully 5 frames faster means that'll happen much less often. Gotta test the tornado launch buff and fatal blow range, they're nice to have but could be really good depending on how they actually work.

Nice Johnny nerfs, keeping him strong on offense but no longer also one of the best on defense. Pacemaker got it worse but I think his design is probably really hard to balance so I'll wait to see how it works in practice.

I like the Sonya and Stryker and Mavado buffs too, looking forward to experimenting with them more again. I've played a lot of each of them with Geras as is, nice to have them as better teams. Incorporating more Sonya legs and Stryker arrest could be strong. And imo Geras/Mavado already had a lot going for it, just had meme health so it was too risky, but I'll give it another go.

This is fundamental to assist fighters. So yes it's here to stay.
I mean, we've been through this discussion many times in the forums. MK1 is not really an anime assist game. It's primarily a 1v1 fighter with extra moves if you want to call it that.

It's really just the lack of pushblock that makes it annoying in this game lol
Yeah, but you need pushblock in other games, because the mix you have to hold without it is usually much worse than anything in MK1. It makes sense that you'd need stronger defensive mechanics to deal with it.

Heck, the mix in Injustice was much worse than this game. MK1 is much more of a strike/throw offense, closer to Street Fighter than DBFZ/Marvel/Strive.

I thought B2 wasn't cancelable? The main use i could see for Leg Grab with Reptile would be better combos off of S11 and mix off of B31

I WILL EAT THIS GAME
Aaaaaaaand this is why I stopped playing a month ago: because I knew that literally only character in the whole game that I vibe with at all (John Cena) was going to get bulldozed into the dirt rather than anyone being brought up to his level.

This is depressing.

Interesting. So, MK1 is in the same category of DBFZ and MVC according to you guys?
Obviously, do you think SF and FF are in two different subgenres because they have wildly different mechanics despite both of them being traditional 2D Fighters?

Yes, I was refering to mixes off of b31, which is 90% of his gameplan. But as a matter of fact, you can charge b2 and either cancel it into a special move or a kameo move.

And charge B2 is +5 on top of that note holy smokes he might have really strong pressure now

I honestly feel very confused with some of the responses here. At least what you're saying is MK1 is an assist game therefore it needs mechanics such as pushblock, which is logical and makes sense.

Others however argue that MK1 is somewhat of an assist game and doesn't need more assist mechanics such as pushblock which I find completely illogical and confusing to say the least

This is an issue that comes from MK fans not being used to assist fighters imo, the only kind of team mode we've had before was a KOF style turns mode in the classic games and a Tag Mode from MK9 which plays more like BBTAG than anything
Both of them are quite different from MK12 so there's not much to compare it to in the franchise
