MK1 Story Spoilers Discussion

Mortal
2 things I've been thinking about:

- Post credit scene doesn't have the same production value as Aftermath post-credit scene. I believe NRS would've liked to leave the stage with a more promising showing of what's to come, so I do believe an expansion is coming for sure, bringing Havik as the main villain and the actual post credit teases for the next game.

- After thinking about all these tacky mashups of characters in the pyramid, I realized how little this whole aesthetic represents Shang Tsung or Quan Chi. If Havik was the final villain in this parody-looking chapter, it would fit the story SO much better that it would actually be awesome (provided Havik had a proper boss moveset, I'm not forgiving NRS that easily lol).

Also, I don’t think the ending was satisfying as an ending. It did feel rushed, and it did feel like they cannot, or that they don’t have the intention of writing a story without the “well it’s all timelines again so did everything that just happen really matter?” thing again. But by deciding that pretty much every timeline is canon in some way, they do give themselves the freedom of making every character the protagonist of their own story, through Invasions or even something else. I really hope they go all out with storytelling through Invasions because that would make the story and the game’s universe way more interesting.

Didn't Aftermath sell incredibly well?

I'm willing to bet we only saw the first 2/3rds of the story ifso
There’s no way NRS isn’t at the very least already writing the expansion. I don’t think they’d give away Havik as the big boss in the next game just like that, on release. I’m thinking he plays a big part in the expansion and we get something different for next game.

the only way they don’t do it is if big irl stuff stops them

1. Kung Lao / 2. Johnny Cage / 3. Raiden / 4. Kenshi / 5. Baraka / 6. Ashrah / 7. Reptile / 8. Sub Zero / 9. Scorpion / 10. Li Mei / 11. Sindel / 12. Mileena / 13. Shang Tsung / 14. Liu Kang / 15. Your choice
Mileena having a chapter and Kitana don't is a surprise

Anything's Possible
it definitely felt like Armageddon but on steroids. I would make some predictions, but every time I do, they end up doing something unexpected but at the same time fits their style of storytelling.

  1. The story felt like a love letter to those who enjoyed the plot of the 3D era.
  2. Regardless of how many of us may feel about them, Sonya/Jax’s absence is definitely weird considering Liu is recruiting champions.
  3. The Multiverse led to some fun moments. However, it brought down what was a decent story before the Titan twist.
  4. This game probably has the most tiring wave of jobbers throughout the NRS era.
  5. On the flip side, I love the character interactions. Johnny was at his best when interacting with Kenshi and the Edenians were the highlight for me.

It is better this way
I frimly believe he should stay as Sub-Zero for a good awhile at least 2 more games. Enough to have a villain, redemption and hero arc.
I'm ok with Bi Han never being a hero, he should be one of the only true neutral characters in the game. If his stance is purely "all I care about is advancing the Lin Kuei, the rest of you guys can suck it", I'm good with that. I think all of his redeeming qualities should be his relationship with Kuai Liang, but it doesn't seem like the game is going that route. Maybe they could bring back his relationship with Sareena, and make her and Kuai LIang his only ties outside of the Lin Kuei.
