Remember…he uses “practical” magic now.I don't like that they took away Smoke's "smoke" when he's just standing still. Its a small detail, but it was always such a cool part of his image. I hate it just as much as them taking away Noob's black blood
Which is a massive L imo, they had the chance to really do up the Enenra details they established in 9. Now instead of a demon, he's just a regular guy. Thats a downgradeRemember…he use “practical” magic now.
He's back to being his old timeline self (as brief as it was there), i've no problem with that. Him being a magic trick performer (the way its phrased) - now that's something i'm not on board with.Which is a massive L imo, they had the chance to really do up the Enenra details they established in 9. His fatality is literally the least important thing about him or really any character.I've said everything i wanted to say about him already about the looks. However, the other day me and a buddy of mine were discussing his fatal. And i have to say, it's quite uninspired. Nothing really "Smoke" about it (except maybe it being a cheeky reference to his finisher from MK3... or is it too much of a reach ?). How many times will we see a guy getting his lims chopped off and how many methods of doing that you can even come up with ? I'm ok with stepping up the gore factor (which they're not doing in this one, since, as i said, the gore looks very stylized in places), but the idea of a fatal and how it describes a character, who's performing it stands above all. And there isn't much of an idea in that one. Could've just put the grenade in his mouth right away and be on his merry way (like he did in MK3).

You say this because NRS trained people over the years to think of them as 30 second cutscenes you can't wait to get over with. But it adds character, personality. Sadly, this one does nothing of the sort. His fatality is literally the least important thing about him or really any character.
I don't think it adds character. Maybe it shows character if it's done creative enough which this one definitely isn't but so what. I'll play this game probably for 2 maybe even 3k hours. Of those 3k hours, exactly 30 seconds will be spent on both Smoke's fatalities just to get an achievement. Doing a fatality is not to watch it anyway but it's about "the message" you send for doing it if that's your sort of thing. At least that's how your opponent takes it.You say this because NRS trained people over the years to think of them as 30 second cutscenes you can't wait to get over with. This is it right there. Not much of a character showing, if you just initiate a mutilation of a guy just for the sake of the "shock factor" (which isn't all that shocking anymore), every character can do that.Maybe it shows character if it's done creative enough which this one definitely isn't
Also true, but i was talking in general, not just about online environment.Doing a fatality is not to watch it anyway but it's about "the message" you send for doing it if that's your sort of thing. At least that's how your opponent takes it.
Speaking of this, I really think his default costume is missing some dark black on it to help it pop. Scorpion has yellow, black, and red. Sub-Zero has blue and black, but Smoke just has gray and slightly darker gray. Smoke is one of my all-time favorites, but I wasn't particularly wowed by what I've seen so far, costume or gameplay-wise. I still like what I see, but I'm not blown away like I was with some other character costumes/moves. Hopefully, it'll grow on me as I see more.People talking about Smoke's hair are wrong.
This is the correct Smoke look:
Id be completely okay with that, sans the fact he looks the oldest of the 3 brothersBro has that hair because they are trying to make him the Sensitive baby brother of the 3.
So its more heartbreaking when he fucking dies in the story mode for reasons to make Scorpion hate Sub-Zero.
He looks like your younger kid brother who fucks around on tik tok.
Basically he’s a fuck boy.
You're 100% right lolBro has that hair because they are trying to make him the Sensitive baby brother of the 3.

I think that's a poor reason to have every fatal or super be slash slash stab stab occasional explosionHis fatality is literally the least important thing about him or really any character.
Fatalities are the lamest and most unimportant thing in MK games. ¯\(ツ)/¯I think that's a poor reason to have every fatal or super be slash slash stab stab occasional explosion
They put a lot of effort into making those widely beloved cutscenes.Fatalities are the lamest and most unimportant thing in MK games. ¯\(ツ)/¯
Agreed. The appeal (to me) was always their difficulty/secrecy, not the actual violence itself.Fatalities are the lamest and most unimportant thing in MK games. ¯\(ツ)/¯
Scorpion returns after a mission to the Lin Kuei Temple. As he enters, he sees Smoke's headless body on the floor. Smoke's head with the spinal cord still attached is lying on a table not too far away.Bro has that hair because they are trying to make him the Sensitive baby brother of the 3.

Yeah I agree, and UMK3 fatalities were also short and sweet. These days fatalities are straight out of a gore porn film with a full production and everything. Which I appreciate all that goes into making cool & creative fatalities, they just aren’t something I’m concerned about is allThey put a lot of effort into making those widely beloved cutscenes.
I just think they are boring, MK3(UMK3) had the best ever. Need more classic and funny stuff. Glad to see Jacks foot is back though
100%. And that went away as soon as the internet became a thing. But even still, even with the internet, memorizing classic MK fatals were always cool. But these days you can literally beat someone, pause the game, look up how to do the fatal, and then perform it, long before the fatal timer is up. You don’t even have to learn them anymore, lolAgreed. The appeal (to me) was always their difficulty/secrecy, not the actual violence itself.
Amen. Exactly.Agreed. The appeal (to me) was always their difficulty/secrecy, not the actual violence itself.
100% this. Brutalities as they are now was a brilliant thing for them to pick up on and something i've been begging for since the first time i played samsho and cut someone in half (annnnd technically was done by KI but that's it).Its never going back to that. Boon has mentioned in every game since X that people complain about Fatalities being too hard.
But tbh I don't care, because Brutalities have replaced Fatalities for the "skill check" finisher. Doing is really dope combo into a rare brutality is 10000% better feeling than just doing a stock fatality
I also like that there are actual hidden brutalities that remain a secret for a quite a while as well as secret things you can do during brutalities to change things. There is some classic Fatality DNA in Brutalities, and I very much enjoy it. I just hope they don't force you to have to unlock them before using them in MK1. That's such a stupid idea, especially for tournaments that don't have everything.100% this. Having these quick, elegant, skill based match finishers is everything fatalities should be, especially for more serious players who don't want to deal with the time wasted every match. Let the casuals watch their 20 second over the top cutscene that you do with a 3 button motion. It sells copies and means your missed the boat favorite might get upgraded from kameo to real girl/boy (same argument for guests).
