What's new

Looks like we are rebooting the series (next MK game teaser trailer)

"You won't winter over?" Who the fuck wrote that?
Cassie had some of the worst costumes ever in MK11, they need to rectify that ASAP. Also, characters like Sonya should have actual toned muscles. She's a Special Forces kombatant!
Absolutely. Aside from the default one and the Harley skins. That was pretty much all she had that was decent.

And preferably a VA that can actually VA.
I didn't mind Erica Lindbeck too much. I thought she did a great job. She absolutely had nothing on Ashly Burch though and if it wasn't for the VA strike at the time I believe Burch would have reprised her role

Also just to aggravate you. Shredder Sub-Zero should be default skin for mk12

I meant for Sonya cause they also mentioned sonya in their post.

Aka no garbage guest VAs (rhonda rousey)

LMAO I mean shredder zero is fine as long as I have other choices. I need a MK9 or MKDA Alt skin and I'm good

Get your guns on. Sheriff is back.
Im quite eager to see where this is going. With Liu Kang as a God finally and history shattered and trying to be rebuilt anew theres a lot that can happen. Im honestly more eager for a new timeline than any sort of multiversal past reality vs new reality struggle tbh. Too much metaverse these days. Its all anyone devolves into. Sincerely hopinh it hard restarts a new history. Maybe like when Jojo did it where you can see slight parallels but clean divergence in the new reality.

Maybe it dose not mean "Mortal Kombat 1" like a lot of people are saying.... Maybe it means "The 1st Mortal Kombat"... so instead of a remake of the story, it is a prequal kinda thing going all the way to the very first mortal kmobat? Be a bold movie, as apart from Radian and other immortals and the Great Kung Loa there would be no classic charicters.

Whilst I'm happy for some costumes to be sexy (hey I have a fully functional libido, not my fault), what's more important is they're actually decent in the first place. I don't care if Cassie is covered up in every costume, as long as the outfits are awesome, but the problem was hers were mostly hideous.

Who on earth came up with that revolting ribbed spacesuit with the clashing purple under-shirt that gives her the visual impression of saggy wrinkled breasts? Or the bulky spacesuit with the Mega Man cuffs and a neck brace (for which there are 20!!! colour variants)? The default skin is alright, the version with the jacket is also alright (but way too similiar), so why are the sci-fi skins so horrendous and unflattering? Then you have her workout gear which again is all so horribly unflattering in the colours, patterns and the frumpy socks. Shaar modded this skin to be in line with the MKX colour scheme and look how infinitely better this looks without even changing the clothing, by having a more vibrant colour scheme and removing the unflattering patterns. This doesn't objectify Cassie (since the clothing itself is identical anyway), it's just way more flattering and stylish:

I found all of Skarlet's skins just absolutely boring, she benefited the most from all the DLC/KL skins that were released. I don't have a single default skin equipped to her on my 5 variants: Kytinn, Kold War (very sexy without being explicit), MK2, UMK3 and MKX Comic. If they could come up with skins as varied as those as add-ons, why couldn't they give her any nice ones from the default range?

Kitana too also suffered horrendously from saminess in her range of costumes, basically everything was a near identical body-suit on the human versions. Yet in DLC/KL we got that stunning Summer Heat kimono (also very sexy without being explicit), MK2, MK3 and the human variants of the Revenant skins with lovely new hair styles. It just feels more of a moneymaking scheme when put into this perspective that Skarlet and Kitana are both so boring unless you largely start forking out for Krystals (or do a lot of grinding).

Same goes for Sonya, most of her costumes were bland as hell and barely anything that looked genuinely military. I had to pay money for the Terminator skin to get her to look how I wanted her to, which for me is how she should look by default (and in my opinion looks awesome and practical, but simple):

18969

Call me boring, but I don't like "GI Joe cartoon military" characters where everyone gets to wear their own wacky costume to work like 80s wrestlers. If she's part of a military that clearly has a consistent uniform, let me have her in that uniform, the same goes for anyone else in that faction (Johnny, Cassie, Jacqui and Jax - and I don't mean give them all the same default skin, I want them to look different as standard, but give them all a proper unified Special Forces skin in the available options if we want to, like how all the ninjas eventually got an MK2 skin if we want to make them consistent with one another). Instead it feels like things like the Aliens Kenner toys from the 1990s where you couldn't have the marines actually look like they did in the film (all in a single uniform, but modified slightly to be unique for the character), but you had them all in different wacky colours and outfits so children knew which character was which. Hell I rejoiced the day Ubisoft finally let me customise the team in Ghost Recon Wildlands so that I could have a squad of distinctly unique but uniformly-similar camo'd up covert commandos instead of being followed around by a band of homeless bums in clown suits.

If you're going to insist on a number of characters being part of a military, then give me the option for this:
18970

Don't restrict it to mostly this (which is what Mortal Kombat's Special Forces tends to feel like, especially with off-brand Jax here):
18971

Gone off on a slight tangent there, but the point I was trying to make is that they're trying so hard to be clever and come up with crazy unique designs for all the characters now that they lose sight of not only who the character is, but whether what they're wearing is remotely logical, practical or even aesthetically pleasing anymore.

yep, you have a bunch of women spitting out : "I'm a strong independent woman, and you cannot treat me as an object', and next, you see these same weird persons publicing on TikTok and Instagram their videos with bikini and shaking their asses on those stupid short videos :p
I assume it's not just a British thing; the current trend is for these ass-flossing gym leggins that loads of women are all wearing through town these days (I'm not even sure they're going to a gym), that don't simply accentuate each buttock but can even enhance the pelvis to an almost explicitly sexual degree. These are what many women are wearing by choice these days (though we're apparently not allowed to look, even though these pants only exist to make people look), and are undoubtedly what a character like Cassie Cage would wear in real life, but I could guarantee she wouldn't be wearing such attire if she's in the roster and gets another gym outfit in the next game. It just baffles me that you know they wouldn't feel they could embrace realism for a character who would genuinely wear such an outfit.

As I've said before, just get an actual woman to be the costume designer in the new game, what's stopping them? Then for a start it doesn't matter if she designs something, heaven forbid, sexy for a character since that was then a woman's choice, but also, she'll mostly likely design something that actually flatters someone's figure in colours that actually compliment one another.

Here's your issue, Art: you're trying to use logic with illogical people. The lunatics obsessed with ensuring fictional women "reflect the real world" and should therefore be ugly and 100% de-sexualized have a completely religious/dogmatic view of the world and it's structures. As a result, they already have one hundred responses locked, loaded, and ready to shoot down your solution.

I'll give you an example. If you show them a picture of a sexualized woman in a video game and say a man made it, they'll respond with something like it's bad because "it's appealing to the male gaze", it's objectification, it's dehumanizing, etc.. Then, if you show the same image and say a woman drew it, they'll say something like, "well, she clearly has internalized misogyny" or "she's been brainwashed by the men around her to believe this is okay, and needs help", and still condemn the image.

Like a blasphemer in a theocracy, it is your action that is the sin/problem, and no amount of reasoning or excuses will change that. And that's the main reason I must vehemently disagree with your answer. I really do believe that you mean well and are trying to find a solution that makes everyone happy, but saying only women can draw sexy women (in a well-meaning attempt to appease everyone), just makes things worse because you've now stooped to such a level where you're trying to solve an illogical issue with an illogical answer.

No one is looking at tall, rich, handsome, shirtless, and ripped-to-shreds Johnny Cage and going, "I hope a man came up with this design, otherwise this unrealistic depiction of a man is offensive and harmful to real men out there." And for good reason, it's a stupid argument. The primary focus should be on creating some good character designs and costumes, not worrying about offending people who are looking to be offended.
Well, I didn't expect this post to get so long, but I've just been against these unrelenting, censorious ideologies since the 90's when people would say the exact same things that are being said now, only for religious reasons.

Not this shit again?! lol Give me a break.

Go to pornhub to get titillated. I do not give a flying fuck about how much skin or not a character shows and I think it is fucking ridiculous to think otherwise. Scarlet looks great as a scantily clad slut bathing in blood, she also looked great in that Arabian kinda outfit she launched at with MK11. Neither was bad or good. Just different. It absolutely baffles me how this is an issue people argue about. Superman wears a skintight blue suit, but Psylocke in X-Men Armageddon is offensive.

What offends me are the cunts on both sides of this "war". Fuck the lot of you. Just shut the hell up and let us enjoy the games in peace. Oh my hobgoblin monster ninja with the torn up horror face isn't wearing a sexy costume!! The sky is falling!! OMG April from TMNT can't have huge juggs that is offensive and shouldn't be in a cartoon, volcanos will appear in the centre of Tokyo.

Everyone on both sides of this are idiots.

I remember Scarlet Johanson being asked a loaded question about her skin tight black assassin outfit during press for one of her comic movies and as a response she asked Chris Hemsworth to go through his diet and exercise routine that he had to do. Chris Pratt had to declare in his Guardians contract to reach a certain body fat % and muscle look before he got the gig. So the idea that men are not pressured to do things is just plain BS.

While people's preferences unto itself are their business, it just blows my mind how big an issue people keep making this out to be. This is a video game. I'm playing Mortal Kombat to play the game. I care about how it plays, not if the character is wearing lingerie or a hazmat suit.

For me aesthetics are a huge part of what makes a game (or film) even appealing to me. You can have two games that are effectively identical in gameplay, but if the settings or aesthetics don't appeal to me in one of them but do in the other, I won't enjoy the one I don't like the look of anywhere near as much, if at all. Case in point the Far Cry games, they might as well all be the same game; I loved 3, but didn't like Blood Dragon, 4, Primal, 5 or New Dawn, but did love 6 (and yes I own them all, from discount sales mostly). Although many out there disliked 6 and felt the series had reached pure worn-out franchise-fatigue by that point, since I'd not enjoyed the last 4 games purely on an aesthetic level I never really played them much, so I loved 6 as I didn't have the fatigue others had. I thoroughly enjoyed being back amongst palm trees, golden sands and beautiful blue skies; that for me is the kind of Far Cry experience I enjoy the most.

Hell a big reason I don't enjoy Mortal Kombat X anywhere near as much as MKs 9 and 11 is because much of it looks like a death metal album cover sculpted out of wet clay. Many feel it's a high-point of modern MK gameplay, but for me, I just found it ugly.

I was looking for a place that I could escape Chun Li thigh reduction discussions.

I came to the wrong place

Come on this shit is IMPORTANT!! It deserves 500 youtube videos, and 5 pages of threads on reddit. Nothing is more important in SF6 than her muscle tone!

You're a bigot nazi or a fascist wokeist if you think otherwise. For this is the single most important thing to consider when buying SF6.

Sure, again, individual preference is up to the person. But the importance of characters-needing-to-look-like-strippers-or-the-game-is-hot-garbage is blown way out of proportion.

For Mortal Kombat XL, I found the darker tone fit the story well. The only thing I wasn't big on was the sweat texture layer added to characters at the end of a match. Didn't have an issue with the idea of it, but the final result looked odd.

Well as I mentioned in my previous larger post, I'm personally not striving for strippers, I simply want quality aesthetic designs that make the characters look good, compliment their role and make visual sense.

This is awesome:

Yeah, I really don't see where they were going with this. She looks like she's about to join the Injustice 2 roster or something.
