Mortal Kombat 11 Announced for EVO 2022

Comments

Isn't it weird that people like m2dave will go out of their way to talk about how bad the game is, unprompted, in a thread where the vast majority of people that like the game take the position of, "I like MK11 but it's totally okay if people don't"?

Truly unhinged behavior where not liking a video game is a person's entire personality.

And your entire personality appears to revolve around posting off-topic comments about me such as this one or this one hoping that I would acknowledge your existence some day.

Congratulations! Today is your lucky day.

Petty personal attacks aside, which are easily made against you, the more interesting discussion would be not whether Mortal Kombat 11 is a bad game or not, which it objectively is, but whether another fighting game deserved its spot at EVO this year. I will gladly listen to both sides of the argument.

This a whole lot of cope posting to cover up the fact that people enjoying something you don't like caused you to immediately jump into the thread to remind them how much you don't like the thing they do.

Cope harder.

Also, DID you ever pay Dittle his money?

Objectively it's a good game. It's sold well, gotten solid critic reviews, won awards, has an active online scene, and has had a solid competitive scene. If you don't like the game, that's fine. If 5-10 other people you know don't like the game, that's fine too. But those aren't objective opinions, those are subjective opinions. On practically any objective basis, it's been a very good game.

As usual, well said.

I wish I could go. I could use a wild dirty weekend in Vegas and meet like minded people. It would also be neat if people like LostyGirl was there too cuz she's good. Plus...I want I want to see @MisterAquaman in person! Just to say Hi!

My mindset is, if I and others keep bitching about how much we hate MK11, then hopefully MK12 wont be the same.
I've literally seen Twitch messages from NRS staff saying they don't care or believe what people say.
People get angry, they say stuff, they think certain things are true because the seam true in a bottle, then enter data analytics :|

They are catering to a large audience, and there are a lot of people still playing across various modes. They know exactly how many and they aren't super interested in Twitter hot takes about what someone thinks those numbers look like.

An individual having feelings is fine, but if the servers are hopping, it doesn't matter a whole lot what individuals say.

Objectively, Mortal Kombat: Deception was an even better game. Deception became the fastest-selling game in Midway history, mostly received "favorable reviews" by critics, won the best fighting game award in 2004, and implemented the first online gameplay mode for a fighting game. Aside from conspicuous gameplay blunders that included various infinite combos and some of the most broken moves in fighting game history, Mortal Kombat: Deception was objectively a very good game.

Sure. Objectively, you could say that MK D was a good game for its time. It sold well, got good reviews. Those are objective things by which to measure a game. Who knows how those reviews have held up over time though? And I can't really speak for the competitive scene.

I was being sarcastic. Your criteria as to why Mortal Kombat 11 is a good fighting game can be applied to almost any Mortal Kombat game ever created, even when the game is as bad as Deception in terms of gameplay. Most MK games sell well because they are MK, receive irrelevant mainstream awards from people who know absolutely nothing about fighting games, maintain a small yet consistent online scene, etc.

The Mortal Kombat: Deception Wikipedia page claims that the "Guinness World Records Gamer's Edition 2015 Ebook" recognizes Deception as being the first fighting game to be given an online mode, which is factually accurate as far as I know. Mortal Kombat: Deception was the first mainstream fighting game that you could play online almost two decades ago.

MKD was the first MK that had accessible online for everyone (It was pretty great for its time, lots of fond memories) when previously the closest thing was WaveNet for UMK3 but it was rare & only available in Chicago & San Francisco areas that used a T1 line to Midway & there was also XBand for SNES but both options were way before my time. There’s still folks on TYM that actually used WaveNet & XBand as I have seen a thread about the latter a couple of months ago.

That's odd, Guilty Gear X2 #Reload came out before Deception in the same year and definitely had online play.

The first fighting game that I know that had online was Capcom vs SNK 2 that came out in 2001 with cross-play with PS2 & Dreamcast but it was only available in Japan until Capcom vs SNK 2: EO came out for Xbox in 2002.

Good catch, I forgot that game had online play too.
So I extra don't understand the award for MK now, lol.
I think it was just ignorance on Guinness’ part because Mortal Kombat is a major name & franchise in NA & Europe when Guilty Gear & Capcom vs SNK 2 are very niche titles back then to casuals even though Guilty Gear X2 & its iterations are widely considered to be one of the best fighting games of all-time.

While that does make the most sense, they should have done their research.

It’s pretty funny that Melty Blood & Granblue Fantasy has higher numbers than MK11 & if Samurai Shodown came back it would probably have more attendees than it again like it did in 2019. MK11 probably sold more than most of these games combined (Excluding SFV & T7 of course) but just because a game sells more, casual critics rave about it, guest characters galore don’t make it automatically a good game or have a high competitive interest especially this late in the games lifespan.

I’m actually surprised that DBFZ isn’t ranked higher as its been the new “it” game for awhile now.

LOL. Thanks.

TYM cannot make lists in a descending order? The corrections have been made.
No problem.
