I say this as a huge NRS fanOf course but like you said other things matter and if we take into account everything then this guy fails to acknowledge the fact that mk or nrs gsmes have other fg beat tenfold from Graphics, gameplay(depending on the title), voice acting, martial arts, the story isnt even debatable, even capcom admitted that nrs redefined the storymode in fg. Now they're all doing it, with content God knows past 3 NRA games have been filled with content even mk9 had a lot more than most fg.
Yeah & it’s also a thing in a lot of other games. To be fair, the throw-catching-low-profile-attacks thing is intentional.
Most of it is preferences for sure art style, animation, gameplay etc etc but I think it's safe to say nrs take it to another level with story and graphics. I mean injustice 2 and mk 11s mouth movement and facial scan tech look amazing. I'd totally watch a 3 hour movie just like i2 and mk 11 story cut scenes.I say this as a huge NRS fan
All of that is debatable & I definitely wouldn’t say NRS Games are animated better than KOFXIV or better graphically than GG or so. But a lot of that comes down to style preference.
Yeah & it’s also a thing in a lot of other games.
UNIst doesn't have the problems that MK has. It's designed from the ground up to be a highly competitive game.I watched the video too. I think the most important takeaway is what he mentions about Unist and Tekken. About how their communities love their games so much, that it makes you feel like you're really missing out on something great if you don't play or missed a tournament.
Outsiders looking at us bitch endlessly about our game is just going to drive them away.
100% truth.Sajam talks about this topic from time to time. I tried to find a video on it but he literally puts every stream on his Youtube in like 5 minute segments, and I ain't got time for that.
The basic premise is that at high level, pro or semi pro players think NRS games are "Whack."
That's a sentiment NRS has earned.
It's not the NRS community's fault that Black Adam was completely busted and ruined a few high profile competitions with a black hole of negative hype. Nope, that's on NRS.
When MKX was wildly unbalanced and EVERY PATCH did nothing for balance, but simply tier shifted which character was S++++ tier, that's not on the NRS community. That's on NRS.
Pro players from other scenes are not blind. They see this going on. Are they going to invest their time in a game franchise that suffers from these kinds of issues? Probably not. They might side game NRS in the beginning when pure fundamentals mean the most (Justin Wong did this in MKX), but they aren't going to stick with it. Doesn't make sense.
Right now, hitboxes are busted and the game doesn't even work as the tutorial tells you it does. When a pro player says a game is "Whack" that's the kind of thing they're talking about. It's been 3 going on 4 months and there's no patch in sight, no developer feedback on the issue, and no real confidence they can or will fix these issues.
I like MK. I've always liked MK (and it's always been whack but fun). But when another community takes a peak in and says "Nah, fam. I can't invest my time in that. It's fun though." I totally understand.
But miss me completely with that "It's the NRS community's fault." That's some self hating bullshit (or myopia from reading just this forum all the time.) We're out here TRYING to tell NRS how to be a respected game and move to the next level. Problem is, it takes NRS till the next game to fix anything. I'm sure the developers are right now thinking about how they can fix the hitbox issues for Injustice 3.
But that's too damn late. And that's why NRS games have a Whack reputation.
They deserve it.
This right here.NRS is a company that just wants to make money. They make more money releasing a new game every 2 years then they do allocating resources into balance patches. i like MK but i get it. I am thinking of jumping ship to SF or tekken for this reason.
Mk9 was a great game and one balance patch to chill out kenshi and kabals bullshit would have gone a LONG way.
After NRS gets all their money from char dlc i guarantee they will abandon this game for work on Inj3
It’s funny how in a lot of ways you just described what some morons say about Tekken 7 & just like those people you sound just as foolish. This right here.
Unlike other devs, I don't think they really care. MK9 might be the last game where the competitive integrity and community approval were a priority.
Dlc pack is half movie characters and severely missing iconic favorites.
Game has rubber-band/on-rails mechanics that behave more like playing games at a carnival than true head2head hand and eye coordination skill.
Game was rushed out as a buggy mess with comical hitbox issues and slapped together at the last minute variations.
MK now is just a Warner Bro marketing tool for external IP with a mobile casino for single-player content.
No competitive game should have the ridiculous mechanics in the way NRS has them.
MK is the only current fighter where being super low on stamina is 99% if the time checkmate. The only current fighter where 2 buttons gives a high chance of winning a round after getting beat down.
Popularity is one thing and competitive integrity is another.
Not sure how you can say that when a lot of aspects of MK11 were designed specifically for the competitive community. That’s why the meta is less 50/50 centric than MKX was. They listened to the competitive community and realized that wasn’t what we all really wanted. To clarify, that doesn’t mean there isn’t 50/50’s, there is, but the meta doesn’t solely rely on them. Of course there’s a lot of casual aspects like the Fatal Blow for instance, but that will always be the case. There needs to be mechanics that helps the casuals, otherwise only competitive players will really be playing the game. You need to have a game that’s easy to get into and relatively easy to play, but hard to master with depth. I feel like they made an attempt towards that with MK11, possibly more than any other NRS game. This right here.

1st player advantage, Toasty Boost, variable stage size heavily favoring certain characters, terrible control mapping, input bug, ToD Cyrax. This right here.

If you're getting bodied "99% of the time" by Fatal Blows, I'd recommend looking within instead of blaming the game.MK is the only current fighter where being super low on stamina is 99% if the time checkmate. Is it a good or bad sign that nobody has ever heard of it?UNIst doesn't have the problems that MK has. It's designed from the ground up to be a highly competitive game.
MK is flash/gimmicks and arbitrary design over substance.
Its bad reputation is 100% the fault of its creator.
There's nothing wrong with being casual, so long as it's not trying to proclaim to being hardcore.
