Are you not entertained!?
I was expecting them to patch all customizable moves to be honest. But they dealt with variations mainly. All is fine, but let's hope they take care of the other moves in the future too.

This. The patch was a really good first step and it dealt with a number of issues which needed to be resolved and it shows that they're moving in the right direction. They do need to keep moving in that direction, though.

Happy about the patch overall? That has yet to be determined. However, I’m extremely happy with Raiden’s Raijin buffs, & I’m happy Scorpion’s TP was made a high. Now I don’t have to hear any excuses when I wax people.

Samurai Shodown game director believes that ''perfect character balance'' is boring

Kuroki admitted he’s not a fan of making the power diversity in the game’s cast “too flat.”

When asked about this discrepancy, Kuroki told me that while the team is likely to release a balance patch sometime in the near future, it might not make things as balanced as some players may hope.

“I feel that if you make everything too flat in a game like Samurai Shodown, it’s going to be boring,” Kuroki explained via interpreter. “There is a lot of character personality, even among how weak or strong they are. There’s going to be some balancing, but we’re never going to make it completely flat.”

Imagine if NRS devs had the same mindset

Yes, for the most part.

But I was hoping for a 3rd tournament variation for everyone since they don't wanna do customs. Hoping that a 3rd variation would give me reasons to play characters I love but don't like their style in this game (sub zero lol)

To keep it all the way live....im just happy the game got patched PERIOD! The playerbase needed this. Is it everything that was needed? Hell nah. We're still far from that mark, but at least its a step in the right direction. Now if they need to buff online and Custom variations to be legal and we got ourselves a contender for best fighting game of the year :)

You know what's also bland? Endless Genjuro mirrors. Having Genjuro dominate every top 8.

We had a waaaaaay more diverse top 8 in Evo than SamSho and were absolutely nowhere near "perfect character balance".

@ C-Sword thing is there's a vast difference between "perfectly balanced" which no fighting game is, and balancing, tweaking and fixing actual issues that are broken or stupid in FG's like someone's move that literally is too much or does too much for the opponent to defend against then what's the point? Or if someone has a partial or infinite? If that guy feels issues like that aren't an issue it's no wonder SS has been MIA for years. You can't honestly tell me that's a fun experience otherwise you get first season of KL where 99% of people just pick Scorp, Erron Black, Geras because that's really diverse. lol just saying man.

What? You dont like watching cookie cutter tourney gameplay? Honestly i like the way the game is headed with this patch but if Paulo or the big wigs at NRS had this mindset (like they did with mk9) i think it would go a long for player/character personality in gameplay.....And just cause its more fun that way

To be honest, I’m surprised they didn’t add a third variation to the characters. I’m expecting them to do it probably by the end of the first season, is there a time in the competitive scene that would make sense to make it legal/ custom variations?

I always thought of EVO as the super bowl and thus the ending of a season

They need to add a third variation for sure. How can the sequel have less tournament legal variations than mkx did? It is a step backwards in that respect.

they needed to fundamentally revamp the entire game, all the moves that were clearly OHs in the past should become oh, all the mids that were once clearly lows should be lows, throws should be more specific to blocking opponents not suck in almost any other move, make combo potential better since we can breakaway easily anyhow, bring back the run button from umk3, give shang his chameleon moves in a tourn variation, give every character one additional super move, i can keep going

Not happy with how they did Kotal. Yeah new D3 is great but it was just one of his issues; all it allows him to do is what every other character could do since day 1. So he can jail into some high strings, then what? Any mixups Kotal throws at you are high risk low reward parlor tricks which would be fine if his other tools made up for that, but they don't. Totemic doesn't even have the threat of the command grab. Why does this character not have at least 1 quick normal mid for counter attacking? Why can't you at least block immediately after a successful parry to not get fucked by multi hitting strings and projectiles? Why can't you switch sides with the command grab? Why does the second hit of B22 still whiff when the first hit lands at max range? This character is blatantly incomplete and still feels like complete trashbag tier.

In my opinion the game needs new gameplay mechanics......like maybe a roman cancel type of thing or something to allow individuals to be able to express themselves more and no I do not think custom specials will do it.

I think the patch was good but still inconsistent. Johnny had his issues fixed but mids still whiff against him. Kano got a buff but he is still d1 into mix char. Some pokes were nerfed others were not. On the other hand, kollector is now usable and dvorah. The geras change was so good, he got changed in a way that he is still good. I like their new approach but to be honest i expected a little bit more. (How kabal didnt get some of his strings changed is beyond me)
