Should NRS include an option to filter Wi-FI connections?

It's already a huge dodge to say all wifi players are bad so ban them. When this crap goes through it really won't matter about names or casuals or anything. It'll just be the part of the community that has wired connections playing each other exclusively and calling everyone else filthy casuals cause now they can't even participate.

they can participate... by buying a lan cable. wifi players are bad because they essentially don't play the same game. they don't belong in ranked. thats not elitsm, it's common sense. I'm sorry but this isn't a shooter or a rts, fighting games can't be played with wifi.

The option in the menu should be:

Ignore WIFI Opponents:
-> YES
-> NO
-> YES Only if Subzero or Jade

Or a Scorpion / Top Tier Filter

Did you also think about how many people won't be able to find matches online if they allowed such filter. That's including players that are good at the game. They may not get matches because people will decline them constantly. I'm sure if you played in the stress test and the actual beta you would know what i mean.

I don't think that is true at all.
What is being requested is that we have the option to search for Wired Connections in ranked modes. This won't effect any WiFi players in the least. The Vast majority of players are using WiFi and will be able to find matches without the 5% who are wired available.
In fact us Wired players will probably have to wait 5-10 minutes for each match if we want a Wired to Wired connection that is also below 100ms.
But WiFi players being 90%+ of the playerbase will easily find a match instantly.

Its just an option not a ban.

We just need a button for Filters that has the following options:
Search for Wired Connections
Search for both WiFi & Wired Connections
Search for WiFi Connections
Less than 100ms
Less than 150ms

And this should work and it shouldn't alienate WiFi players. I'd understand if more than 50% of the player base consisted of Wired then yeah but way less than 10% are wired and that's reflective in ranked matchmaking.

WiFi has to send the data wirelessly which doesn't always get received and this can cause ping spikes and connections being unstable(constantly fluctuating). So a WiFi connection can be 40ms at start and jump from 40ms to 60ms or spike past 800ms. And fluctuate in between.

Wired is a corded connection that send the data straight to the console with a low failure rate. This basically eliminates unstable connections for the most part. If you play Wired vs Wired you mostly will have close to constant ping like: 40ms to 80ms but if you have a WiFi vs WiFi it can fluctuate from 40ms to 250ms not including packet loss and ping spikes.
WiFi vs Wired can get just as bad as both WiFi but a little less unstable.
All connections suffer from players having multiple devices on the same connection while you are playing online. This basically turns stable connections unstable instantly and very randomly. So don't have your GF on YouTube while you are playing Ranked.

No option is without fault but you should have solid stable connections if you are both Wired and noones on YouTube while playing. But WiFi is usually more unstable because there are more errors with data transfer through the air as supposed via corded connections. The shorter the cord the better but you could get solid 100ft Ethernet cord for your PS4/XB1/PC/Switch and it will still be much better than WiFi.

Look up things you need to know about Ethernet Cords for Gaming online and make an educated purchase. And enjoy your better experience online.

My connection is wired but dont care enough about online to exclude people whos set up wont allow a wired connection. Not all wifi connections are trash. Although some are.

(nice indicator that my next match suffers under lag spikes?
example: ping runs at 40-80, a spike happens, red ! symbol (followed by frame freezes) and ping runs up to 250+, you dropped your combo or missed the punish? sorry ...)

the essence of good and fun (!) online gaming is a good connection and with wi-fi its already handicapped by default

if the gaming industries would push that (optional) wi-fi filter system, i am sure gamers will in the long run change their way to play online games anyways.

ps: wi-fi on wi-fi should never decline or have a filter option!
eat your own medicine, taste it or change it, while you learn how bad of a experience wi-fi is/can be

Trust me, a connection benchmark is far more accurate in telling you whether both sides will enjoy the match or not.

I personally don't have issues with wi-fi connections. I have issues with 100-150 ping connections, regardless wi-fi or cable. You are forced to play a 140 ping connection, and then it jumps to 220 in game and you can't do shit. I'd rather have them make you decline 100 ping and more.

Exactly, we've moved on from everything being attached to a cable. That's why there's soooo many wifi players.

With that said, it would be nice if ethernet connected players were preferentially matched up against others.

But as i've said before, people just don't care. So long as they have a connection that's good enough.

Wifi is for phones, tablet and so on. Yeah you can use wifi on the console as well if you want connection to be always online and search and download stuff in the net, but if you are going to play GAMES in Multiplayer yeah you have to be wired, otherwise its ruin the fun of the people.
If they make this option and they should, a lot of people will simply buy a cable that worth 5 bucks and everything will be okay.
A game with lags/delay its a completey different to no.

I do think NRS are not stupid and will definitely make this option.

Would be nice if they'd fix the netcode. WIFI connections weren't half as shit at launch as they're now.
I also would like the ping limit to be 50ms lower. 150ms connections are fucking always 180-200ms in reality and that shit really isn't enjoyable.

How many gaming desktops do you know of that are wifi? That in itself is a crime. So that leaves gaming laptops which many can be flaky in general.
Run some ethernet. Its not hard. Learn to crimp, its not hard.
Im renting a house now and wifi signal is strong, only 3-4 other SSID's as opposed to when I was in NYC and there would be 60. But still hate wifi's inconsistency so I ran my own wires.
Poke a hole in the wall with a coat hanger, fish it through, tape the wire down across floors.

If you arent willing to do these things, you aren't serious. So that means you shouldnt be in ranked.
