All speculation of course, but...

I wonder if we're seeing the impact of the 'crunch' issue being exposed at NRS.

e.g. NRS can't rely on crunch anymore, therefore;
  • General length of time taken to release content is longer
  • Lack of communication (NRS unable to rely on crunch to meet deadlines so hesitant to commit?)
  • lack of previews/clarification of dlc, despite leaks.
I guess we can't have our cake and eat it too...

Thoughts?

I think we're being impacted by them not knowing how to put out trailers and hype their kombat packs BEFORE WE CAN SEARCH THEM ON ONLINE STORES

WITH THE CHARACTER RENDER

WHICH THEY STILL HAVEN'T RELEASED

NRS had too many edibles man, stop that shit ya fucking hippies.

FUCK.

I'm new to all this still, and I would not mind for developers to take their time were it not for the seemingly set in stone 2 year shelf life of all these NRS games. Game's already over 1/8 dead by that standard, so clock is ticking, right?

Ask me about my Mileena agenda.
Definitely, we just don't know to what extent. When you overwork your employees to the extent that we've seen, you're bound to see negative effects in the long-term. It's hard to say how much of this is WB's work (i.e not delaying the game to give it further polish) and how much is purely NRS's doing (i.e seeing hitbox issues and not fixing them pre launch).

The game, for the most part, is in a good state and I'm confident it'll only get better. Netherrealm just lost a good chunk of goodwill thanks to the whole ToT debacle at launch, so the community as a whole has been pretty on edge from the word 'Go'. Combine that with the fact that talk of balance patches and DLC have been scarcer than they've ever been, and it's no wonder people are more antsy than usual.

Waiting for Injustice 3
that could have a role in it but if any of you were around for Injustice 2 there was about a 5 month dead period of zero information before the game launched. NRS is just bad at promotion and building/maintaining hype

some of yall never had to mow yards every saturday to save money to get your mom to take you to the arcade and pump quarters for hours just HOPING to UNLOCK a character...and it shows
My dad had me washing his cars every Saturday morning during cartoon time, smh.

However, when we had our end of year school arcade, with the fellas bringing in their Sega's and SNES' with set ups for MK2 and SF2 Turbo, I was balling as I had kept all the pocket money throughout the year for washing the cars. Will never forget the look of astonishment on my dad's face when he asked me if I needed money for the arcade, and I pulled out around 30 quids worth of one pound coins

Possibly. Call me cynical, but I don't think NRS would change their culture that quickly. The story made the rounds and ruffled some feathers, but it didn't become a massive issue like other similar stories have for other studios. Again, I hope this is not the case, but I would imagine they went back to business as usual pretty quick. This is pure speculation of course. I really hope I'm wrong. I'd rather wait a few extra weeks for DLC characters than have them now at the expense of the people making the game.

I think maybe we're looking at some other issues stacking up. That weird post from Bruce Campbell where he categorically denied being in the game, and then a teaser like two weeks later with a prominent chainsaw makes me think maybe they didn't have all the rights ironed out? Or maybe there was some kind of confusion behind the scenes?

Doesn't explain why it would take so long for Nightwolf and Sindel to get done, but does point to some disorganization behind the scenes.

Crunch has nothing to do with bad marketing, promotion and/or communication. I don’t care that we only have 1 DLC character, but some transparency would be nice considering how many people bought the season pass already. We already have money invested that we have very little information on so it’s a lot different in that regard

Its Game Over, Man
Do I think that this has been affected by them cracking down on the crunch issue? Yes, but I can deal with that after hearing about some of those nightmare stories.

Am I gonna be losing any sleep over the wait? Hell no. I've got other things that I can do to occupy my time and other games to play in the meantime. The game just came out, it's gonna be around for a while.

Oh yeah, those were the dark ages. Nowadays, try telling kids what arcades were like. The struggle was real.
i like when i talk to some of these kids and show them old school umk3 combo vids like 'infinito' and they look at it like its comparing tomb raider platforming to super mario...theyve never felt the power and frusteration of classic sub OTG's and kung lao dive kick infinites...not to mention ermac in general mwuhahahaha
