Shao Kahn Discussion Thread

is there a reason to have 2 damage buffs?
No. It's honestly kind of dumb. The dark priest move seems like a random thrown in move. But it is more effective than the other buffs right now due to it's lower recovery and longer duration.

Any real difference between the taunt dmg buff and priest?

I thought id like to play true kahn, to you know... "you suck" at people... well that doesnt work at all. So playing risen.
However, if you do the front grab brutal, you get a end of match "you suck"

Anyone notice if that end of match taunting makes people prematurely end the set? Just had one player quit on me after, maybe coincidence tho./
Humiliate which is the damage buff on ridicule is much better damage wise than dark priest.

Humiliate gives you a flat 25% damage boost for 5 seconds. Dark Priest gives you a 10% damage boost only on moves that specifically use his hammer. (And seeing how his combos are just shoulder charge and standing 4 loops it doesn't add a ton of damage)

imo priest should be something more useful that he doesn't already have like dropping an armor zone by the priest, I think Quan had a move like this in MKX, and make taunts less shit + part of base kit, no reason to make his most iconic trait + his access to good damage a gear move. maybe that's asking too much though, idk

though dark priest gives you access to a really good krushing blow that sets you up for very good meterless damage anywhere on the screen

All too easy...

Safe jump set up that works on everyone. You can use up hammer ender sometimes (aka not on geras u3 which is 6 frames) but the more gravity in the combo the less plus on hit the knockdown is where as 212 is always plus 44

Also both of geras wake ups are punishable fyi

Is there a preferred tournament variation with SK?
Risen Emporer is the go-to simply Becuase of having an ender that doesn't side switch and Dark Priest being a more reliable buff.

However I would probably go True Kahn against zoners as wrath hammer is a great projectile with KB properties.

I had a conversation with a sparring partner of mine these days. He and i discussed some things that made me approach SK with a different point of view. A simple point of view but effective combined with a bit of luck.

As he stands now atm we should do the following:

If we have meter for breaker we can take risks. For example condition them with f2's and when they start ducking we use shoulder into play.

The reward off a successful charge is really good as we all know. If they block it and punish we can break if its early in the round since probably by the end of the round we ll get the meter back.

If they dont block, we use both offensive bars for maximum dmg and wall carry. Also sometimes its better if we finish our combos with charge. The corner carry is ridiculous there.

After that we can turtle until we get our bars back. Hence and repeat.

Thing is though, even with that simple point of view, SK cant do much against players who are equally as patient (and know how to punish his faults, because if i judge from things i ve seen up to this time, SK players are getting away with murder. I ve seen people punishing moves which are -20f on block with down pokes and not only once or twice....) as the player who plays SK.

Why is the hop needed?
The purpose of any safe jump is to bait them into an unsafe wake up because you look like you are going into the air and the wake up will punish but you will actually land in time and punish the unsafe wake up as shown. As a bonus it helps making the timing for flawless blocking the wake ups much easier to time because you just block as you land. All wake ups in the game are unsafe on flawless block and it allows shao kahn to do his reversal throw punish krushing blow

When they realize they cant wake up is when you start doing meaty short hop overhead, empty jump throw/button etc. It opens up a ton of mind gamez

Yall have pretty strong opinions on Shao for not knowing that -_-

All he has to do is punish a move thats -10 or more, doesnt even have to set it up
what does me thinking taunts could be faster have to do w/ not knowing throw could crush ?

rhetorical question, blocking you for saying yall

This entire thread has been nothing but crying except for the stuff I have posted, dont play dumb
pretty much everything you posted is already known. If people are just now figuring something out it's because they didn't read through the entire thread or don't understand obvious set-ups.

That's the only reason why I'm ignoring it.
