If you were to actually think about it, these characters are just functions. They're just doing things.

Mileena, case and point, is a favorite because she has sais and a really fast dive kick, right? Well guess what, Kitana can do the same thing.

It's just the function that people are associating with the character, and there's no shortage of that. NRS made sure that all proper playstyles can be represented with their current roster.

On the one hand, I think it's funny because (why even bother? You know you're gonna rattle nothing but cages of Mileena fans). On the other hand, maybe this is their way of quieting people so adamant about Mileena being playable? Because if they didn't, people would be even more insistent that she will be DLC.

Lastly, I think NRS doing the character move swaps is just lazy because Kitana has enough moves over all the lore for her to have variety. I would love to see the return of cutter, fake out kick, pretty kick for a rushdown based variation built on safe jump pressure and chip to go alongside her zoning variations.


Jaquii should have takedas whips, scorpion should have kenshis sword. lets give sub zero, rains water moveset and roundhouse, i mean, ice is just frozen water, right? Guess you could give noob ermacs moveset and say ermac penetrated him in the soulnado somehow without noobs consent lol

"Mournful" is an ill concept. Not only undermines the popular and loved characters whose traits are stolen, but undermines Kitana herself, her iconic status and moveset.
Same for triborg shenanigans.
90% of loyalists and fans prefer their characters to be completely absent than
half-assed versions of them.

HOWEVER, in terms of gameplay and competitive light, it's interesting for sure.

Honestly? I find it kinda hard to care. I'm not a particularly huge fan of either Kitana or Mileena - though I do typically like Mileena better - and as kind of an outsider to both fandoms it feels like it's doing a bigger disservice to Kitana tbh, just feels like they gave up on thinking of new shit for her in favor of extremely misguided attempts to shout out other characters. Not to mention my favorite character got all the juice milked out of him by a boring-ass cowboy so it's hard to sympathize w/ the Mileena fans mad that another cool character has her sais now.

I like it... was cool with Mournful in MKx as well. So this is about community between games. Make a lot of sense to me. Had the same kind of comments about Jade being missing, but most people go over it and Mournful became a legit variation people played and enjoyed.

Definitely not a fan of it. Those moves are iconic to a certain character and, especially in this case, make no sense to be used with Kitana. All it does is serve as a sore spot for Mileena fans who feel slighted and a lame attempt to give Kitana something new. With as good as NRS has done with characters they've brought back and their abilities, surely they could come up with something unique to give to kitana if they wanted her to have some cool new moves/abilities.

Jade, Kitana's childhood friend and bestie for life, made sense to a certain extent. She wanted to have her memory live on. Mileena, however, she hates. Why would she use her sai?

Also, there's the gameplay aspect of it, Kitana who already has a float, doesn't need a friggin teleport. lol

I don't mind it out outside of the initial soft confirmation that Mileena won't be in the game at all now (I was hoping maybe as DLC).

It's sort of a nod/homage to Mileena the same way Mournful was to Jade so it's cool for that.

I prefer no "homage moves" and just not having the character. Kitana getting powers from other characters (Mileena's teleport, Jade shadow kick) or Goro suddenly having Kintaro's fire breath made no sense for the characters and were never true replacements.

It also makes the character look like it has a limited set of skills and it has to borrow from others (twice in Kitana's case) to have a versatile enough skillset.

Its just a stance with a telekick + command grab right + Air Sai correct?
I think the main problem here is that she is specifically using Mileena's Sai.

What if Kitana just held up her fan in dagger form like in her neutral stance, with the same telekick + command grab with a blue effect instead of pink?
that would've made more sense to me as the are both indeed sisters and it wouldn't be weird for kitana to have her own telekick.

Its not like kitana can even throw the sai forward or even roll. The Air sai thing is actually pretty unique, but why did they have to make her use mileena's sai to do it.
I think Kitana having a telekick as a mileena homage is fitting, but I don't think using her Sai is cool at all.
 
Well, it looks like the majority is either against it, or doesn't care. I see some compelling arguments here. But I'm standing by my stance that I like that she has the teleport kick. Though, I will say that she could have done without the sais.

I don’t like it honestly. All it is really doing is trolling fans of characters who didn’t make the roster. See Erron Black having Reptile’s Acid as another example.

I really don’t understand their design process regarding Kitana. She has a plethora of moves across the series that they could use. Not to mention, we’ve seen characters in the past who were designed to share moves with another character from their inception (Shinnok, Frost, Kira, etc) and it has never, ever, been favorable. Shinnok is much better as a character when he’s not designed to be Dollar Store Shang Tsung.

It feels like Kitana, as a character, is regressing where other characters (like Shinnok and Frost) are evolving. Or alternately, Kitana is slowly transforming into Khameleon.

She doesn’t need other character’s trademark moves to be interesting. There’s plenty of interesting characteristics to work with already and it’s the same thing that I said in MKX regarding Mournful.

i would rather NRS say on stream "haha mileena isn't in the game maybe in mk12 guys" than for them to give a few of her moves to kitana, esp given both sisters relationship. just feels like a cop-out and if i were to play kitana it would just be a painful reminder that mileena isn't in the game.

dunno if anyone has played gears of war judgment but locusts weren't playable in multiplayer so they eventually added in a locust skin for the human characters. lol... it's just a cheap ass way of trying to satisfy ppl but it actually makes things worse.
 
Lol. It’s just a video game. I love MK as much as the next guy, but some of you are taking it too far. I mean, she’s technically cloned from Kitana so it isn’t such a foreign affair...

As a fan of both I’m not losing my sleep over this but I really hate it.
First of all Kitana can be cool on her own and maybe they could have given her something like cutters or some other amazing move but instead they used that slot, time and effort on this lame stance. That sucks even more when it’s the second time they do that to this character, wanna have Mileena stuff in the gane so bad? GREAT! Put her in the freaking game then!!! They basically made Kitana a meme at this point like what is she gonna borrow next game? Shao Khan’s hammer? Sounds about it...

And as a Mileena fan it also sucks because I would rather not have anything about her at all than have this.
If this was other characters more people would be losing their mind, I bet. What about we kill Kung Lao in this game and give his hat to Liu Kang, it would look ridiculous.

I think the fighting style and choice of weapons are part of the characters personality though. Persumebly their weapon choice and fighting style was chosen by them for various reasons, just like in the real world someone might pick taekwondo over karate or kendo for reasons personal to them. So when NRS just starts reassigning signature moves to (so far only Kitana), it rubs people the wrong way.

My opinion on this might be unique considering I am both a Mileena & Kitana fan while also not liking the matchup against Mileena.
I know many hated Mileena in mkx because her Ball Roll low profiled everything especially mids so there was no such thing as Oki or having your turn you setup. This was due to a character design flaw where her ball roll hitbox was below the stage making it very hard to hit it with most moves on startup or during it. Along with that she had the smallest character hitbox causing many combos and moves to wiff unnaturally.

As for Kitana taking her Telekick and having her Sai's is something that doesn't make any sense lore/story wise. With Jade it made sense but her most hated enemy should not have gotten her moves.
But ok it's here and if Mileena isn't going to be in the game then I am glad something of Mileena is in the game.
I personally want to use Half-Blood Stance because Kitana with a Teleport seems very strong especially if we can gear her to be more rushdown. So even though I think it's in bad taste happy it's there.
I hope her tournament variations are good and have both styles: one being rushdown and one being space control.

We don't know the story yet?! Maybe this is an alternate reality where they were actual sisters, and that's the reason she's using her sai. Maybe due to the timeline shenanigans Mileena got killed before Kitana found out she was her evil clone, so it becomes another mournful situation.

While i'm not a huge fan of her having them, as others have said she has plenty of other moves she could have, i'm willing to at least wait to see how the story plays out in case there's a decent reason for it.

If i've got the option when playing, then i'd more than likely not choose them when creating a loadout.
