With that leak came speculations about additional characters as "secret" unlockables. Mileena, Shinnok and Shang Tsung were mentioned by people who got the rest of the leaks right, but without visual confirmation. So while most things are confirmed by now, further achievements could potentially confirm or deconfirm secret unlockables not visible on the roster leak.

I'm not saying you should. I don't really believe all of it either. I'm just saying that there's more the achievements could show or not.

There have been a lot of small hints for Shang, though. There's one stage that's named after him, it seems like the Nethership is in, there was the skull fireball in the first trailer, a shot that kinda looks like him stealing souls in the new one, the twitter stuff with Cary Tagawa... And several people who were proved right by the leaks and the new trailer mentioned him earlier. So I'm not holding my breath for him, but I also wouldn't be terribly surprised if he was in.

Same. UNLESS THERE'S TWO! Then we'll know that it's Shang and Shao. We might not know though. I'd bet that any achievements involving unlockable characters will be 'hidden' even after release as to not spoil the surprise. So we won't really know unless they for some reason announce them, or until we play the story.
