Steam database achievements - Roster speculation

Disappointments:
- the objectively absolute worst of the kombat kids returning
- Sub-Zero with boobs over any more interesting female that hasn't shown up in a while

That's about it, because I care much more about female characters in general. Would rather have Sindel, Mileena, literally any other 3D era female, or Tanya back (even though I knew her chances were slim from the start).

But OH BOY WE HAVE JADE and that makes me super duper fucking happy. So many main options now.
But fuck Jacqui.

Edit: please give me the Erron Black cowboy stripper skin back. Please.

The worst part about all of this, is that NRS is remaining tight lipped.

"Yeah guys, sorry, it wasn't meant to be spoiled but it's true"

or

"Nah, don't worry about it, trust in us"

or

"Lol, surprise the launch roster is actually gonna be 30 slots"

Something to just put this to rest.

If Blandy McBlandface is really in then at very least we can start discussing her potential changes, cause they're not gonna change any part of the launch roster at this point.

I'm just upset that from the looks of it, Shang Tsung is shafted AGAIN. He's an OG character, very iconic, and arguably very important lore-wise. He's being left out to make room for, let's face it, the diversity hire.

Doesn't matter.
It does, since the point is that there is no pleasing everyone.

D'Vorah and Jaqui, on the other hand, are terrible picks plain and simple.
That's subjective, especially since people are happy D'Vorah is back.

Again: if your favorite was in MKX you have nothing to complain about.
And again, that's not how it works or how the devs go about picking the roster.

The worst part about all of this, is that NRS is remaining tight lipped.
Well, there was this tweet.

He's bloody asian! For as much as I like to blame american politics for anything bad that happened to entertainment in the last 2-3 years, I don't think that's it this time around.

It does, since the point is that there is no pleasing everyone.
Why please the 3 people that played Jaqui when you could please the everyone and their dog people that asked for Noob? And if Noob's in then Fujin. Or Rain, Shang Tsung, Smoke...

Here's to hoping.
Why on earth would they draw more attention to it?
Also, this ^. Sure, everyone here wants confirmation, but from their point of view, what are they supposed to do?

They had carefully planned their marketing strategy how to lay out the roster over the next weeks, invested lots of passion. Now that came crashing down. Should they just come out and say "Whoops, you caught us. Here's the full roster"? The best way for them to go about this would be to prevent further leaks, schedule the future reveals so that some doubt if this leak is real remains and then hope that the hype about this dies down.

The part about nurturing doubt is something I highly disagree with it. Right now, they're shooting themselves in the foot either way.

Either the leak is true and some classics are getting fucked AGAIN, or it isn't and the red herring placeholders will make people mad because their character just got deconfirmed.

Granted, I would rather piss off the 5 Jacqui fans than the thousands of Noob/Smoke/Shang fans, but reality is that MKX was big, a new generation picked up that game and is likely more familiar with the Kombat Kids rather than the OG's.

Best case, some of the characters we're waiting for will be DLC. Unrealistic best case, the initial roster size is gonna be larger than the 25 slots.

I only show up when a new game's around
people in this forum cant talk about diversity in videogames/entertainment without being a total douche about it huh

this achievements make me think we might get just a little more than 25 at release, but I doubt it...

Why do they even put all this stuff in the steam database if they know people are going to try and find this info? At least only add the trophies from the characters that were already officially released. I thought this was Ed's way of leaking a bit of the roster but I think they wanted to keep Jade under wraps.

I doubt any of this was intentional. As many pointed out, the PC version and Steam data is handled by a different company, QLOQ. My best guess is that it's a simple mistake. QLOQ wasn't as careful as they should have been, NRS trusted in them handling it properly and therefore didn't take any countermeasures, anything along these lines. Someone just messed up.

That could mean "bummer the roster got leaked", or "bummer you guys are so gullible" or "bummer you don't like Jacqui as much as we do" or "bummer I just stubbed my toe"
It could mean anything in other words.

Yeah, MKX was a lot of people's first Mortal Kombat, especially younger fans.

Tay.

At this point I don't think the red herring theory is all to likely anymore. With two NRS employees going to twitter about being dissapointed, one directly retweeting a tweet referencing leaks... Of course all of that could be part of a convoluted plot, but I don't think they would go to such great lengths just to mess with their fans. To me, this is low-key confirmation.

Regarding the rest of your post, yes. I also hope that in some way Noob, Smoke and especially Rain make it one way or the other. A few slots are still unknown, so here's to hoping. I can imagine Noob being a frontrunner DLC, similar to the role Red Hood had in injustice.

The troll awakens...
what are they supposed to do?
They should accept the reality that leaks are almost inevitable nowadays. Their marketing campaigns should not be centered around character reveals. It's not working for me, because their behavior usually feels like trolling. (Yeah, Tyler Lansdown is even worse than Boon. Suck it, Tyler, I enjoyed the Steam leak more than your recent KombatKast! This Leak is like MK Day 2.0.)

I feel such a relief now that I know at least the names of the fighters that made the cut. It's just names, nothing more. My hype is even stronger because the annoyance and stress are gone. Now I'm ready to enjoy the revelations of what each character brings to the table - this is more important than the character reveal itself.

Yeah, that makes sense. I agree with people though, leaks kinda take the fun out of the anticipation. I'm still excited to see Jade, but still, I don't like it.

Slightly offtopic, but is it just me or Ketchup and Mustard are trying too hard to become NRS employees? Their reaction on twitter is ludicrous! According to them, some youtubers are to blame for the recent Steam leak. LOL
Or they wanted to be surprised like everyone else and values the developers and the game itself? I mean, good for them if they get hired, but leaks have become even more annoying because of YT and if you are someone who wants to avoid leaks, well it's practically impossible.

Jacqui/D'Vorah 2020
So here's my take on the whole thing, why not just reveal the entire roster out of the gate? Not show everyone in one day, but show the full character select screen, confirm who is in it, and then start showing trailers and gameplay?

This company has had almost every roster of theirs leak to some degree, I think this could prevent it. And it's not like they lose all the work that Ketchup pointed out that they do, now they just don't have to worry about the a-holes who feel the need to beat them to it.

I agree with this. I guess most of us here read the leaks intentionally, but if I wanted to avoid them to keep the surprises and then got hit with an image or message you just can't miss, I'd be pissed.

And while I'm happy that I got the names, I also feel bad for the dev team. I believe they do this out of passion and are doing their best to create a fun experience for the fans. It's up to everyone individually to judge if they suceed, but I truly believe it's their goal. And when you get robbed out of something that you put lots of work and passion, into, that's not fun. Love or hate their work, they're normal people just like us in the end.

And to come back to Ketchup and Mustard, they know the NRS staff and worked with them. To us it's someone we see on the internet, to them it's people they met and care for. That changes their perspective.

if anything it's QLOQ fault. At first they leaked Erron Black. Everyone on youtube reddit, twitter talked about it. They clearly saw that too (and nrs). And the day after they leaked everyone else the same way...

What they're doing is NOT working. The rosters of their games get leaked. Only an idiot does the same thing over and over while expecting different results.

They should reveal the characters names/mugshots from the start. And build from it for the rest of their campaigns. Hope they're not idiots and do learn from mistakes.

Then Ketchup won't be spoiled on YT. :) You can't blame a youtuber for spreading relevant info. If you're afraid of wolves, don't go to the woods.

by each death, we learn more..
I really thought Fujin, Noob Saibot, Rain and Shang tsung will be in it. There's still hope though. Maybe the remaining 3 rosters is those three I just mentioned. Another theory I have is since there was only 17 stages in Mk11 and now 21, makes me believe there will be few more slots added to the character roster.

That's a fair point. I think revealing all the characters, then slowly revealing the gameplay could work better nowadays.
