Lose without excuses

I'm almost certainly gonna be "that guy". When I was running through team comps and such, Cell was a front runner but I figured he'd get nerfed, so I didn't want to risk it. Well, he didn't. SO!

I will freely and gladly admit that I am a horrible scumbag and have almost exclusively stuck to the toppiest of top tiers. It just so happens that I LIKE most of the top tiers, but I LIKE some lowbies too, but I'm not gonna play them. For me, I try to avoid out and out broken characters, but usually focus in on the characters just behind them, because I want to avoid decimation by the nerf hammer while having as much absolute strength as I can manage. One caveat here though is Ill avoid characters that won't make me better at the game as a whole..think Deadshot.

I don't do this to make winning easy though, I do it to make losing EXTREMELY hard.

If, let's say.. I play @BurdaA - as an example... And I'm literally running something like Cell/Kid/Black or Cell/Kid/21 or whatever, and his Nappa mollywhomps my ass in a set.. guess where my ego gets to hide? Nowhere. I lost. *I* lost. No MU option selects or tier excuses or whatever. I lost with the best possible chance of winning. I'm bad. I need to level the fuck up, and I can't shoehorn an excuse in edgewise no matter how hard I try.

That's why I play top tiers. Not saying everyone plays them for this reason, nor am I saying people that play mid/low are doing it for an excuse.. but it's not always about wanting easy wins or a character carrying me.

So all that said - who cares if your playing top tier characters? I'll will freely admit that almost every character I play is AT LEAST a little bullshit. Usually more so.

(Also I have a theory about meta curves being centered around tier exploration and applications and the top is always at the forefeont of the curve)
I’ve stuck with the same team since launch. I still get called a tier whore. But the thing is, most of the characters are very similar. There’s really not too much incentive to use low tiers, when there’s better versions of those characters. Like, the main appeal of low tiers, for me at least, is them being oddball characters that have unique gameplay. In DBFZ, the low tiers generally speaking, are just not as good versions as the top tiers, get what I’m saying? It’s like in UMK3, Scorpion vs Human Smoke. They are basically the same character, Human Smoke has everything that Scorpion has, but HSmoke also has a launcher and has faster walk speed. There’s almost no reason to use Scorpion other than to just mess around in casuals. And Hsmoke is a top 2 character while Scorpion is mid tier. Same logic applies to DBFZ I feel.

It's all so very confusing.

Absolutely.

I agree 100%.

I think the game's meta is misrepresented, with myself being just as guilty as anyone else, as being about Blockstring into mix then repeat, it's not imo, but thats a post for another time - if anyone gives a fuck, which I doubt. After all the whinging and bitching Im trying to keep my posts shorter.

But yeah, everyone is strong and everyone can push your spleen out of your eye-socket.. It's just some characters do it way better than others and that's where the imbalance starts to come into play.

Cause like you said, if you have three characters that are all very very similar, and one is mid, one is higher tier and one is absolutely TOP tier.. why choose either of the others unless you just like that character's lore/look/whatever?

No order..

Cell - Kid - ?

? = Black or Vegeta.
Cell/Kid/Black or Kid/Cell/Black

Leave Black as anchor. With that team you have you want to mix them up with your point guy. Black's beam assists gives a true blockstring into buu ball that leaves them guessing your 50/50 and they cant reflect it. You could never do that with Vegeta (a true unreflectable blockstring) and now its even worse cuz there's basically no blockstun now from his assist. If you want to focus your team on true pressure on block with real mixups - Vegeta has to go.

As for whom to run point? I personally run Kid Buu since right assists are vital part of his blockstun pressure and mixups, Cell mid and Black anchor. Cell's assists also gives a NASTY mixup for Kid (check out Dogura).

But you can also run Cell as point no problem. With recent Sonic's team we basically witnessed one of the dirstiest 4way mixup seen in DBFZ to date lol. Im talking about his Cell string > Buu ball mixup. It works anywhere on the screen and is nasty as ffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck man..

so did reflect get worse? can characters like cell still mash they're block string after reflecting them once and instantly be in your face again?

Appreciate the advice man. I spent some hours tinkering around last night and ill hit the lab some more when Im off work in a couple hours.. but I MIGHT not slot Cell in after-all.. after playing him some last night I was reminded of the other reason, aside from fear of nerfs, that I didn't choose to run him initially and it's stupid, but he feels awkward to me for some reason. He's NOT slow and clunky, but he feels that way - which makes no sense, but it's the best way to describe it. I just don't enjoy his moment to moment gameplay as much as I do some other characters. I'm still going to spend some time on him though because I imagine with some effort he'll eventually just click. If not, I'm looking at:

Keeping current team - Kid/Black/VegetaSS

Or doing something like - (no order)

Kid/Bardock/Black or Vegeta (but after you mentioning the Buu ball stuff with beam, probably Black).

Or my "fun" team (again no order)

Kid/21/Black

I like AG too but just can't make a case for spotting him in anywhere over other characters I like more.

Obv Kid/Cell/Black is the powerhouse of the bunch, just gotta see if I can click with Cell properly and kinda "find the fun". I haven't explored how Bardock synergizes with Kid and Black yet.

There's also a lot of Vegeta mentioned here, even though obv his assist doesn't do what it used to.. I just really like him as a character. I like his kit and how he plays and being terrible at.. well most things, his braindead combo extension is nice.

So u can now reflect or SD out of Vegeta assist when u Block it
Yessir!

This patch is horrible..

I really want a release date for Vegito because he's a character who might go on my team.
Its a start in the right direction, even tho its a bit underwhelming. I mean, we dont even have the new modes that the notes said the patch will come with....Da fuck??

Also...yeah, we need those DLC characters. I got my eye on Zamasu ;)

Does anyone know anything about blue vegeta’s niagara pummel? Sometimes the super finishes with the opponent close to me and sometimes not....

I’m gonna have to swap Frieza out for KBuu if I want to keep running Nappa. Running Nappa with KBuu/Vegeta seems to work, and gives Nappa his blockstrings.

If needed, his assist works for extending Nappa combos, but the timing is seriously janky, and varies slightly depending on starter. Good thing is the assist covers descent on wiff.

I’ve actually tried this team in the past briefly and stopped because of jank. Ah well.... see y’all in the KBuu thread.

Kinda waiting for base Vegeta really, but hoping Vegito/Zamasu surprise me.

Gonna have to use Frieza on a different team, I’ve been really enjoying him of late.... possibly with Vegeta blue just for fanboyism. Anyone got an idea who a good third would be?
