Violent Video Games and the Return of the 1980s

So the White House is going hard on this "violent video games creating mass shooters" nonsense, with a panel being hosted tomorrow. Decided to make this post because A.) we play Mortal Kombat and B.) the White House Youtube page just uploaded this video, showing that they are serious about this. If you care about this, please get in touch with a Congress Person and tell them to this nonsense. And if you live in Florida, please don't vote for Marco Rubio next time he's up for election, he seems like he wants to become the new Jack Thompson

We're all from Earthrealm. If not, cool pic brah.
being that they included violent cutscenes in this youtube clip, does this mean they'll also be including violent movies and film in this campaign? Because otherwise, you know, one might get the impression that this was just baseless hypocrisy to avoid admitting that the real problem is the fact that there's more guns than people in your country. But what do I know.

I will leave my seal on you!
Already over 1000 dislikes in contrast to a mere 39 likes for the video as of me making this post. That already shows people are not up at all with this shitty brainwashing, just gave my dislike to the video as well.

Gaming went through this stuff a to no end, I'm sure everything will be fine by the end.

Loool at this bullshit. mass brainwashing toxic Religions and other Social media groups create more shooters than video-games. (No offense to harmful religious people per se). It's only beta people that follow orders from someone else (a toxic Leader), that do that.
So true.

Yea and dark music causes suicide too, right? Pfft. It's fascinating that history is repeating itself and will end up being nothing but a distraction again. I'm forced to assume that Trump apparently has never heard of Tipper Gore/PMRC pointless fiasco in the 80s or blaming video games in the 90s.

Yawn.

To be honest, I don't think he has. He didn't know the ESRB was a thing that was created 30 years ago because of all this

Overall, it seems like this meeting went no where. Because they didn't invite anybody who knew anything about video games to speak against them https://www.theverge.com/2018/3/8/17098230/trumps-video-game-violence-meeting-esa

Just posturing for easy political points.
with... who? Almost nobody was clamouring for this, people will agree with him now hes said it but they would agree with him if he said Paw Patrol was responsible for the shootings. I don't see how this wins any points in 2018, this is something that is actually making a large part of his own voterbase actually disagree with him for the first time ever

You are giving people too much credit. There's a sizable portion of people who are always against this sort of thing. There's groups like Mothers against Gaming and according to polls done from pewinternet.org, 4 out of 10 American adults apparently believe that there is a connection to violent videogames and violent behavior.

http://www.pewinternet.org/2015/12/15/gaming-and-gamers/

You also have to consider that there's people who already have it out for violent videogames who will jump on this opportunity and there's pro-gun people who want alternate ways of going after the gun violence issue that don't involve more gun regulation. You please some people on the "left' because you go after gun violence and you please some people on the "right" because you are doing so without going after guns. Like yea there's a lot of gamers who would be upset about but that doesn't mean they'll be there voting over it on election day. It's a similar thing with marijuana laws.

But like I said I don't think anything will come out of this, just some quick posturing for points.

I played a lot of super Mario bros back in the days........have never jumped on a turtle in my life

How they can still blame games for something that has nothing to do with games is beyond my understanding.

its to save face to avoid admitting they would rather feel like badasses with their own guns, than not have childeren's schools shot up. Video games is the easy target.
