How important do you guys think it is to have a good assist for extending combos midscreen? I'm not asking bout when to use it, I'm saying more how important do you think it is to have at least one of those extensions available when building your team? Is it even something worth taking into account? Just wondering other people's perspectives here.

Yeah, he wasn’t necessarily bad. I just can’t stand the fact that people can RQ for basically free in this game. Like normally I Love ragequitters, but in this game they’re just annoying.

Also, played the #1 ranked player on XB1. He is NOT a ragequitter and is really good. He whooped my ass, 4-1. Glad there’s SOME players who are in the top 10 who are actually legitimately great players.
He might still be a ragequitter, you don't know because you weren't good enough to beat him

It's all so very confusing.

I think it comes down to what you have to sacrifice to get it, and your team comp in general really. I know that's not really an answer exactly, but in terms of raw "must have or lose".. I don't think it's anything like that exactly. It also helps that several assists cover multiple angles there. Vegeta assist does a little of everything. Kid Buu's kinda does too, though it's a tad harder to setup sometimes. Blakarot's (I saw Goku Black called this in a stream the other day and thought it was hilarious) extends, pressures, covers and sets up, etc.

I feel like the game seems flexible enough that you don't *need* it exactly.. but then again some of the ToD stuff starting to come out might change that, and the ability to cleanly delete an opponent's character might start to dominate the meta where we see two teams running a mega powerful combo, and if, say, you and I were playing similar comps and you managed to kill my assist extend that enabled my ToD before I did the same to you, it would be a massive power swing.

Also in a personal note, I seriously hope we don't see the meta swing towards ToD stuff. Ive always found that kind of thing less hype and interesting because the game starts to devolve into one hit then watching a combo that gets old fast, for a minute straight.

It's useful especially if you have characters that can't get big damage midscreen or can't hard knockdown with specials, but I don't think it's necessary.
Having assists that help with neutral or locking down are far more important, some are multi-task like the obvious Vegeta being neutral/combo extender/lockdown but even other assists will usually cover 2 out of the 3.

No matter what team you play there's definitely at least 1 order where you can get some good assist extensions for combos.
You still playing team Saiyans?

Nah, I dropped the Saiyans a while back for Beerus swag and have been ironing out my team since. I'm playing Beerus / Kid Buu / Frieza atm. Beerus and Kid Buu have very important synergy so he's gonna stay. Frieza is who I'm looking at swapping around, I'm thinking to run Cell so that I can use some legit orb tech oki a bit better, but he doesn't extend combos midscreen like Frieza does, and neither does Kid Buu, so that's a little bit of worry., I do like having them damage buffs on hand. I'll have to test if the corner tech is doable with Goku assists, if so might bite the bullet and use one of the two.

Yeah I pulled Frieza out myself and swapped Hit back back in. Right now it's in the prototype stage, but after some waffling Im back to the team I chose at launch.

As to assists, I have Kid's for lockdown/setups and all that jazz. Hit's for extension and covering my ass occasionally and 21's for.. ehh, stuff. I can use it to setup Hit command dash crossup shenanigans, extend combos occasionally and provide a small amount of extra pressure if I want to try and cover something.

Also, random again.. is the only viable way to farm Zeni really require me to beat the entire story again on Hard? Ugh. I don't have the patience for that.

I keep frieza on point, With black and vegeta, and I find he benefits from having them around for extension, zoning and okizeme. Solo seems a bit limited and as assist isn't that great. But it's fun to play. Nobody seems really weak in this game.

frieza , black and kid buu will make a good team ?

Combos aren't shit if you don't hit ;)

I'd rather use my assist to open up my opponents THEN i start a combo with whoever I am using. Combo extenders are awesome, dont get me wrong, but i dont build my team based on who are best to extend combos. I build my team on my type of play-style and who I enjoy playing.

Kid Buu, Nappa, Vegeta are my team and ive come A LOOOOONG way to figuring everything, hell i didnt even have a third person to stick with. Now thats Nappa and his synergy with Vegeta is awesome as well as Kid Buu using him as an assist.

What order would you have them withgotenks and blue vegeta or normal :)

They’re super versatile, and can go anywhere really. Depends where Gotenks thrives. I’d definitely recommend ss vegeta over blue. His assist is probably best in the game.

This guy is top 6 on the XB1 ranking leaderboard. I didn’t even play well or do anything crazy, he’s just bad. I really really hope they implement some harsh punishments for ragequitters.
Yeah, he sucks, but you're pretty damn good too. You had his block strings shut down and that beam damage....OUCH! Good shit ;)

Nappa needs only his Prince and a pocketful of saibamen
:DOGE

Other assist is for mix-cover. If the first mix doesn’t catch them, then use Vegeta next, at the cost of resulting dami. Worth knowing the optimal including Vegeta in case the first mix is successful.

Just added latest Nappa finds (amazing cheap corner dami involving 2 saiba and only Vegeta assist) but gonna look at my other chars for now. I’ve been pretty focussed on Nappa tech, and need a break.

You want Gotenks first, while some characters can use his assist well like Piccolo and #21 its overall not that great, plus Gotenks without assists is very high risk, he has gimmicks and mixups for days but without assists his neutral and mixups go down by a big margin.

The only thing ive seen that hits off his air grab is his 214L (qcb L). I think it causes a knockdown too, but its good as a combo ender.

For free honestly, I prefer mixups with qcf+2, depending on height and opponents likelihood of mash.
For a bar, you can qcb+1, vanish, whatever, or qcb+3, assist, whatever
