Blue Beetle General Discussion Thread

Lawless Victory!
I was hoping we could start getting a full match up charts ready within the next few weeks (ideally by third week of July). As in a full dedicated thread, easy to follow and comprehend, and easy to navigate.

If we each take a handful of characters (say 3 or 4) and lab the living day lights out of them, I'm sure we can accomplish this!

Beats getting bodied in ranked anyway.

I would take Black Canary, Cyborg, Atrocitus, Flash, Cheetah and Superman to assist with. Whenever this goes down I will be able to give feedback on more characters too as needed. Since this is your idea, I assume you'll be taking the lead on organizing and posting the thread.

Awesome!

Working on the thread now.

If anyone has any ideas on how best to structure or organise the MUs let me know and we'll all try and follow it. For now i'm thinking something like:
full screen, mid screen, up close, cornered, summary

For the record, I've already started on Bane, and will take up Captain Cold, Deadshot, Harley Quin Supergirl and maybe Swamp Thing?. I think I can just about cover one per day, and maybe more on the weekends.

you know people say he needs buffs but i dont see it. I just wish trait was more of an equal stance kindve low wowo inj 1 instead of this gimped version but im prob missing something

It will be glorious if they buff Beetle, but I dunno how they would be able to besides a raw damage up or giving him plus strings. Then he would be a monster I think.

They could let f23 cancel on block. that would make me soooooooooooooooooooooooooo happy

Something I was thinking about for Beetle is we always talk about his counter zoning in the air, but I think Blue Beetle players really need to start exploring the nuances and depth of his Forward 2 in counter zoning scenarios.

Forward 2 is a 14 frame advancing mid that goes under a variety of in game projectiles like Dr. Fate's blast or supergirl's lasers. It has 18 recovery frames on whiff, not bad at all. It's also safe on block and can be canceled into shield slam for safety.

His hitbox on forward 2 dips lower as he advances forward so while I'm not saying this is the be all end all, I think it's another option to explore in developing a counter zoning game plan with Beetle.

Thoughts?

I would like to seem some on do this on reaction/read.... because I have tried, and been unsuccessful.
It's pretty much the same thing as doing a forward dash. Any of his other counter zoning is read based(most is for other characters too). It also doesn't work on all projectiles. It's not something you're gonna be doing all the time, it's just another application for his best advancing mid normal. It's just if you're gonna dash in, you can forward 2. Both are read based options. Scarecrow players sometimes do it with a significantly slower advancing string.

The only time I have put this to use it in the fate and firestorm mu I have hit f2 whilst low profiling their projectiles and canceled into db1 for a combo. I feel that its not consistent enough however to add it to your main game plan in certain mu's.
Its nice to add to the Beetle Bank of Knowledge though.

Blue beetle should get his trait buffed

It should now change blue beetle into Baraka when trait is active

That's all I had to say

Normalize grab immunity.
He's extremely unsafe in most of his strings and the majority of them all have gaps that can be backdashed on poked out of...
such as 33, b13, and 111

33 and b13 both have gaps, and are punishable on block. I believe the only the only way to keep the gap closed is to go for the unsafe df1 or the whiffing db1. 111 being plus one with a gap is useless and should at least be plus 2 or have the gap closed. I don't really care for the 111 change all like that but imo his basic normals are poorly designed besides 13. Yes he as mix but all unsafe and do not lead to full combo unless meter is used. His mix being unsafe is understandable due to it being a mix which is not an issue but there is no safety in anything else.
Figured the discussion would be better over here. Could you describe what was the basic gameplan you were using qith beetle?

Why not use the shield special for safety? It's only -4.

I don't touch 33 and b13 except for combos or using b1 for a restand.

And I know 21 is really short, trait sort of helps alleviate this, but it's +2.

Shield bash does not cover those gaps. All an opponent has to do is mash a poke or mb b3/f3 and it blows it up.

And i don't explain my strategy in words only because its alot easier to explain in gameplay. If you would like to play and discuss, im all for it.

I'm saying to do b1 shield or 3 shield. Why are you trying to get 33 and b13 on block?

And I'm always down to play.

I kinda like the gap in b13.... I think it allows for some nasty jank for mid combo resets.... I dont use it, but I think its worth the fun. mid combo go into b13 df1 or b13 ffmb

Was it known that you can trait switch off of a whiffed db1? Its like 15 or so frames slower to do it this way but it could be somewhat useful to have a hitbox out when switching your trait in neutral

I've used it and had it cross up on knockdown too. It's nothing too crazy, just something to kind of screw with the opponent and when they block it, it kind of pushes you further away so you're totally safe.

What I'm wondering is does this have better recovery than if I just pop trait with the button in neutral? That's a question that would sell a lot of people on this alternative in my opinion.

Yeah, unless it recovers faster than a normal trait change..... or a recovers the whiffed move faster..... I don't think people will do it.

Is there any reason not to cancel all my d1 checks into Shield Bash?

Shield Bash builds me crazy meter and is just as safe as my d1 alone, only that I have more breathing room after.

So I'm doing this all the time rn

This should be being abused by everyone in my opinion. Then you can condition a throw and what not too after you've established that the opponent can't back dash cause or jump out cause bash will hit them. Can't MB back 3 either cause the gap isn't big enough. You can only super and let's be serious here, that's whatever lol.

How good it is makes me fear that when BB finally does get the balance microscope, shield bash will get changed.

Hawkgirl had a way better version of shield bash in terms of chip and plus frames and she could do it in the air and it didn't get changed. That's the last thing I could see being changed. He'll probably stay relatively the same over the life of the game anyway. He seems like he'll have Hawkgirl syndrome of getting two changes over the life of the game and nothing over the top. Shield bash is also the core of his game plan and tools, they aren't changing it. There's no logical incentive to do so. He isn't cheap, shield bash isn't and there are multiple viable counters to it.
