Injustice 2 is a Problematic Game

I will leave my seal on you!
Every time I read 'karaokelove' all I see is:

It's like the Justin Timberlake "Cry Me a River: Remix"

No game is perfect -- but calling the game a 'piece of shit' simply because it's not flawlessly aligning with your wishes is not only silly, but egregiously immature. Here we have a developer that cares enough to revamp their entire netcode mid-game; and you can only see fit to bash the hard-working staff because you don't like your character's Week 3 matchup chart.

Additionally, some of you have completely forgotten the state that Injustice 1 originally launched in. People saying things like "Injustice 1 was more polished at launch" are displaying a level of ignorance that almost borders on willful misinformation.

The sense if entitlement displayed here is beyond belief -- and at the end of the day, being destructive rather than constructive accomplishes nothing.
Pure gold.

I'm sure people have complained about IJ1 back then, they only say now that IJ1 was better at launch just to strengthen their complaints about IJ2 now, just like they did with MKX and MK9.

People need to grow up, not just in our community but others as well.

I have mixed thoughts about the OP tbh. To break it down a little further...

Stuff about Gear
While gear is optional and I don't feel nearly as vitriolically towards the gear system, it can't be denied that they have a point regarding player match not having a 'match with other competitive mode-only players' option. As things stand you have to hope that the other person will also want to play competitive mode. If not, you're out of luck, and ranked match isn't the best of alternatives since there's no option to rematch (which Tekken 7's ranked mode has, for the record).

Do I even need to mention the input bug? I've been playing fighting games since 1991 and I have never experienced anything like this. It kills me knowing time that could have been spent making a great fighting game was devoted to that anal wart they call they Gear system. The game is borderline unplayable in its current state. I play on Hitbox, and even going to neutral before going for a punish is futile, as the game holds the down or back input for an eternity.
I don't think there's anyone who isn't annoyed with the overly lenient input system in this game to at least some extent. Although the worst part is that it doesn't even seem like it's a 'bug' - more like it's functioning as they intended... which decreases the chances of it getting patched in the future. We'll have to see how that one goes...

Character balance stuff
And this is the start of the section where I have considerably more to disagree with.

While it's pretty uncontroversial to say stuff like 'this top tier character is clearly leagues ahead of this bottom tier one', it's quite a huge leap to then say that the game is 'riddled' with 7-3 and 8-2 matchups, when most of said matchups are far from being completely figured out. A matchup that appears hopeless for one side to start with can easily end up slowly being discovered to be a 6-4 or even 5-5 matchup further down the line; it's happened many times before, even in games without any patches to speak of.

The one thing I will say on this front is that it seems like the developers wanted the average Injustice 2 fighter to be a bit less powerful than the average Injustice 1 fighter. There's nothing wrong with that in itself, but they've been rather inconsistent with how much they've toned down legacy characters. The ones who have scarcely been touched at all (Batman, Aquaman etc.) definitely feel a bit 'out of place' compared to the rest of the cast. Hopefully that's not still true 6 months from now...

As it stands, there is no reason to play 90% of the roster; the top 5 or 6 have all the tools necessary to dominate any matchup.
Extremely bold statement this early on. The above section explains why so I won't repeat it here...

There are input nuances and then there's outright input bugs.

It's near impossible to discern between some "nuances" to NRS inputs and actual bugs that shouldn't be happening because, there's so much potentially wrong it's hard to tell what's right and wrong or just plain bad.

Key point, don't talk about it like there's one bug. There's multiple input issues you can face.

As for tiers and matchups: it's to early to really say where people stand. I want people to consider that the game is matchup heavy in a rps way, it may be a broken rps model but it might be okay for the game to be that way.

Any tournament players you see doing well with Cheetah, Robin, Joker, or anyone else are simply amazing players; it's the players doing well despite their characters' flaws.
isnt that what its about? tier lists refer to the highest possible level of play and nothing else, so if an amazing player can do well with a character against other amazing players, the character is fine, maybe just harder to play. and does the potential of todays top chars also rise exponentially with the quality of the player too, or are they easily explored in 2 weeks, but too one-dimensional to develope much further, while chars which are considered not so strong today might open up more possibilities in an evolving meta?

but of course i understand crying for patches is just another layer of playing to win, thats what its like nowadays. i hope nrs will not draw early conclusions though, except for stuff you mentioned rightfully like the input "bug" (aka very questionable design which should be able to be turned off).

I genuinely don't get this kind of posts anymore, no game whatsoever is flawless out of the gate, and still won't be no matter how many patches you throw at it.

Threads' title: "Injustice 2 is a problematic game" Now, replace Injustice 2 with any game ever released, there you have it.

If you want to discuss the game's as a whole and be constructive about it, it's fine, however trying to blow up the game and being unfair while at it, while using a Kotaku level click bait title is pointless.

I like to play bad characters
@karaokelove respect you putting your thoughts out and not giving a shit about your E-cred on this site like the majority of it. A lot of people agree with a lot of it, maybe not exactly. Or are at least thinking it.

With that said I must also say you should be better than the name calling you directed at the devs. Catch more fly's with honey than shit.

I'll continue to hate the wonky as fuck gear system and gear moves until this game dies, or that DBZ Arc System Works game comes out. I miss variations and brutalities those were great ideas the stuff in this game is lame in comparison.

F1 ftw.

What the Fuck is e-cred?

I only agree regarding the input buffer. That's a big problem that should have been fixed. Hopefully it can be patched but who knows?

I'm still loving the game though and controls still usually feel ok for me. I think the gear/reward system is absolutely fine. I spent 60 dollars for the base game and will grind for the items that I want in multiverse. It's nowhere near as much of a cash grab as say, overwatch which really annoys me with its jackpot-style way overpriced dlc, but that's a different story.

And I really don't think the balance/matchups are that bad. It's a lot more balance than mkx anyway

It is better this way
Fully agree with the input thing and the consumer practices. One would think $100 is enough for everything. Even with the aspects of Injustice 2 that feel like a free to play iPhone app, it feels like a complete game because it really does have a lot of content. I agree that a good deal of matchups will turn out to be super polarizing for a lot of characters, but I don't think anything will be more polarizing than MKX Sub-Zero.

The apologists are out in full force. Why is no-one allowed to talk about the problems they have with the game without people doing gymnastics to tell them they are wrong? Some of you are doing the most.
The OP literally asked for it. He said if you disagree then address the points he talked about and provide reasoning for why you disagree which the majority of us did. Disagreement doesn't automatically make someone an apologist.

(anyone whose opinion I give a shit about has moved on to Discord, anyway...).
This statement alone changes the intention of the thread from constructive to bitching. If you don't want criticism don't post on a public forum.
