Combo Breaker 2017 marks the first real Major for Injustice 2, and the first tournament in the Injustice 2 ProSeries 2017, presented by Sony Playstation 4. With well over 300 entrants, the competition was insane considering the game came out not even two weeks ago. The Injustice 2 portion was streamed by NetherRealm's twitch, which I believe is a first for them streaming a tournament. For their first time, I think they did a pretty good job. There were a lot of breaks and the break times were also occasionally lengthy, but that isn't something exclusive to NetherRealm. Also keep in mind, this was a Pro Series event for Injustice 2. It can only get better from here!

Anyway, onto the action! Top 48 Saturday night to make it to top 16 was refreshingly hype. While there wasn't much character diversity, that is to be expected in a game that is less than two weeks old. Also considering there's legacy characters that also happen to be very strong, almost everyone could have predicted we would be seeing a lot of legacy characters later on in the tournament.

In the top 48, we saw a lot of upsets and predictable outcomes:

Top 48 In Winners:

-King beat MIT

-SonicFox beat Gross

-Tekken Master beat GGA Jeremiah

-Noobe beat Biohazard

-DJT beat KDZ in the first Injustice EVO runback

-Slayer beat Jer

-And the Dark Horse Compbros defeated Whiteboi

Top 48 In Losers:

-iLuusions Eliminated Perfect Legend, KevoDaMan AND GGA Jeremiah

-Biohazard beat Guamokun

-P2W beat Tweedy. Then Pig of the Hut beat P2W. And finally Gross beat Pig of the Hut

-Hayatei beat Eevee and MIT

-Vman finished off REO and Buffalo, only to lose to Whiteboi

-Scar piled up bodies defeating everyone he played in losers (Vendetta, Revolver, and Jer)

-Starcharger beat SylverRye who previously Eliminated Foxy Grampa

-And finally Noble's Toxin almost made it out to top 16, but KDZ stopped him in his tracks

Then top 16 started! To refresh you memory, this was the top 16 in winners and losers:

Winners:

Circa Forever King vs Echo Fox SonicFox

NASR Tekken Master vs Noobe

NS DJT vs Noble Dragon

Yomi Slayer vs JWE Compbros

Losers:

cR Biohazard vs Noble iLuusions

T7G Dr.Gross vs PG Hayatei

cR Whiteboi vs Echo Fox Scar

BxA Starcharger vs EMP.KN KDZ

Then the top 16 started! I tried to write up little notes on each match, but it was hard to do while watching. And this is the first time I've covered the finals for any tournament or game. Anyway, below in the spoiler tag is notes on each matchup in the top 16 WINNERS portion of Combo Breaker 2017!

- Top 16 started off in winners with Circa Forever King's Batman vs Echo Fox Sonic Fox's Deadshot.

In a close first match, Sonic Fox edged out the win. This wasn't dominate in the least, as Forever King was one combo away from taking the first match.

In the second match, King was making good use of Batman's slide, hitting 100% of them effectively making the correct reads. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough and Sonic Fox again took the match off of Forever King.

In the third match, Forever King started off with a purpose, taking out Fox's first life bar in the blink of an eye. Sonic Fox however kept composed and made the comeback. With nothing but a pixel left for Fox, and King having very little life as well, King once again made the right decision to slide and closed out the round.

In the fourth match, the match was as even as always. It was more of the same and Forever King kept making the correct reads time and time again. This was the difference maker as King took this match evening it up 2-2

In the final match, Forever King looked to be making quick work of Sonic Fox's Deadshot. However, Fox being Fox, he never gave up and despite being pressured constantly, Fox's use of the new MB escape mechanics was the difference maker and Sonic Fox closed out the set, winning 3-2.

- The next top 16 winners match was NASR Tekken Master vs Noobe

In the first match, Noobe's Cheetah surprised most by dominating Tekken Master's Atrocitus. Tekken Master looked confused and lost in the matchup. Noobe goes up 1-0.

In the second match, Cheetah again mauled Atrocitus. Tekken Master seemed to be learning little by little how to deal with Noob's Cheetah. But it wasn't enough and Noobe closed out the match with his ferocious Cheetah. Noobe goes up 2-0

In the third match, Tekken Master took back the momentum and cornered Noobe's Cheetah. With overwhelming pressure, it was more like Tekken Master was playing Solitaire than Injustice 2, as he barely gave Noobe a chance to play the game. The set is now 2-1 in Noobe's favor.

In the fourth match, Tekken Master's Atrocitus continued to absolutely overwhelm Noobe's Cheetah, seemingly figuring out the matchup on the fly. After a costly clash, Noobe had a pixel left and Tekken Master easily finished him off. Tieing up the set, 2-2!

In the final match, this was the closest match of the set. Both players were adapting to one another and playing to each others tendencies. In an absolutely stunning match, with both players having little health, Tekken Master's ultimate adaptation, poise and patience won him the match and set, sending Noobe to losers. Tekken Master defeats Noobe 3-2.

- The 3rd match in winners was NS DJT vs Noble Dragon

In the first match, Dragon's Posion Ivy was effective in keeping DJT's Green Lantern out. As DJT started mounting a comeback, it wasn't enough and Dragon closed out the first match. Dragon goes up 1-0.

In the second match, DJT adapted nicely and was much more of a threat to Dragon's Ivy. As Dragon clashed early, it might have cost him the match as DJT's Lantern easily closed out the match, tying the set 1-1.

In the third match, Dragon looked to reclaim his momentum. And in the end his zoning and spacing was too much for DJT's Lantern to handle. Dragon goes up 2-1

In the third match, DJT shocked the crowd by switching to Blue Beetle. Even though his Blue Beetle was doing well, it wasn't enough and Dragon's momentum propelled him into top 8, beating DJT 3-1.

The last match in winners top 16 was Yomi Slayer vs JWE Compbros

In the first match, Slayer's Aquaman made quick work of Compbros Superman. Compbros seemed to let the nerves get to him and didn't seem comfortable at all. Slayer goes up 1-0.

In the second match, Compbros was a little more comfortable in the matchup. But, it ultimately wasn't enough. As Slayer's solid play with Aquaman was too fundamentally sound for Compbros to overcome. Slayer goes up 2-0.

In the third match, as Compbros contemplated going with a character switch to perhaps Black Canary, he decided to stick with Superman. A choice he may regret, as Slayer looked even more dominant in the final match of the set, sending Compbros to losers winning the set 3-0.

To recap for Top 16 winners:

- Sonic Fox beats Forever King [ 3-2 ]

- Tekken Master beats Noobe [ 3-2 ]

- Dragon beats DJT [ 3-1 ]

- Slayer beats Compbros [ 3-0 ]

And then the top 8 was set! The top 8 Matchups were as follows:

Top 8 Winners:

Echo Fox SonicFox vs NASR Tekken Master

Noble Dragon vs Yomi Slayer

Top 8 Losers:

cR Biohazard vs PG Hayatei

Circa Forever King vs EMP.KN KDZ

Now on to the top 8 matches!

To start off top 8 Winners, we had Echo Fox's Sonic Fox vs NASR's Tekken Master

In the first match we had Sonic Fox going with Black Adam vs Tekken Master's annoying Atrocitus. In a match where both players were prepared and focused, it was an incredibly close match. Towards the end of the match, both players were one combo away from death. Tekken Master took the risk and got punished by Sonic Fox's quick reactions. Sonic Fox goes up 1-0

In the second match Sonic Fox started off ridiculously strong making quick work of Tekken Master's first health bar. This momentum would propel Fox's Adam to victory in dominating fashion. Sonic Fox increases his lead 2-0

In the 3rd match, it was almost a 1 to 1 repeat of the second match. Fox/s Bladam was hitting hard and not relenting on Tekken Master's Atrocitus. In the end, Sonic Fox's Black Adam proved entirely too much for Tekken Master to handle, and Sonic Fox makes a clean sweep beating Tekken Master 3-0.

The next match in top 8 winners was Noble's Dragon vs Yomi's Slayer

In the first match, we saw Dragon go with his playful Poison Ivy vs a slightly surprising pick from Slayer in his bulldozing Black Adam. The match started off with Dragon connecting his Ivy BnB into full screen zoning. Both players were comfortable zoning each other out, but then Slayer got in on Dragon and took his first health bar. Dragon stayed composed and evened the match up. Then it was back to full screen zoning. In a true war of attrition, they kept going back and forth and Slayer came out with a clutch divekick to take out Dragon's Ivy. Slayer goes up 1-0.

In the second match, Dragon decided to run it back with his Ivy. Dragon seemed to adapt to the explosiveness of Slayer's Bladam, leveling up in the matchup on the fly in impressive fashon. As Slayer couldn't even take out Dragon's first health bar, Dragon evened up the set 1-1.

In the third match, Slayer thought about switching but stuck with Black Adam. Dragon started the match with Ivy's impressive zoning, doing chip while building loads of meter. Slayer wouldn't be detered and fought back and took out Dragon's health bar. But Dragon too wasn't affected by Slayer's pressure, and quickly evened the match up. Neither player was giving up anything, the match was as close as ever between these two gods of NRS. Both players were again on life support, and Dragon closed it out with Ivy's strong zoning, increasing his lead 2-1.

In the fourth match, again we saw Slayer's Bladam vs Dragon's Poison Ivy. Despite some execution errors, it mattered little for Slayer as he decimated Ivy's health bar. Dragon fought back valiantly, and never forfeited the round despite the large health defecit. But in the end, Slayer clutched it out and tied the set 2-2.

In the final match, Dragon stuck to his guns and after a slight deliberation, went back to Poison Ivy. A costly mishap as Slayer had no mercy for Dragon's Ivy, and obliterated Dragon and took the set 3-2.

To start off top 8 Losers, we had cR Biohazard vs PG Hayatei

In the first match, Biohazard went with his harrowing Harley vs Hayatei's relentless Robin. The match started fairly evenly as both players were feeling each other out. Biohazard took the lead with Harley's flashy damaging combos and her surprisingly good zoning. This pressure from Biohazard never let up and Bio went up in the set 1-0.

In the second match, a quick rematch was in effect. And again, Biohazard was off to a quick lead. But Hayatei fought back and evened the match up. However, Bio's Harley remained consistent and made Hayatei's Robin look helpless. Biohazard increased his lead to 2-0

In the third match, Hayatei switch to Batman. The switch didn't seem to help Hayatei all that much as Biohazard looked comfortable as ever in the matchup. In seemingly effortless fashion, Biohazard eliminated Hayatei 3-0

The next match in top 8 losers was Circa Forever King vs EMP.KN KDZ

In the first match, Forever King went with Black Adam and KDZ chose between his Aquaman and Superman in a hat toss up. He finally decided to go with, as Ketchup and Mustard would say, "ACKWA MAN". The match started off slow as both players were feeling each other out. KDZ took an early lead, but King evened it up. The entire match was neck and neck with neither player giving up any momentum. After a stage transition, KDZ seemed to steal the momentum. But as a tournament veteran, King didn't falter and ended up closing out the first match. King takes the lead 1-0.

In the second match, we saw KDZ stick with Aquaman. He again jumped out to a quick lead but King AGAIN evened it up and took the lead back from KDZ. King's semi comeback seemed to overwhelm KDZ at first, but he kept his composure and nearly evened it up. In the end, Forever King took out KDZ's Aquaman once again, increasing his lead to 2-0.

In the third match, KDZ decided to go with his tried and true Superman. The match was more of the same, close and momentum shifting throughout. But King's Black Adam remained consistent and he managed to eliminate KDZ 3-0.

To continue the bracket in losers, we had cR's Biohazard vs NASR's Tekken Master.

In the first match, we had Biohazard going with Harley, and Tekken Master sticking with his Atrocitus. Tekken Master took a commanding lead, nearly perfecting Bio's Harley on the first life bar. Bio started fighting back but the life lead at this point was tremendous for Tekken Master. However, Biohazard managed to finally take out Atrocitus's first health bar, and nearly tied the match up. But Tekken Master finished the match and took the lead over Biohazard 1-0.

In the second match, Biohazard switched to his old buddy Bane. Biohazard got a quick life lead with the crowd behind him as hype as ever wither each hit Bane landed. Tekken Master, however, wasn't effected by this momentum and evened the match up. Biohazard doubled down, and as his Bane was on the ropes, Tekken Master made a costly mistake in dropping combo, and Biohazard made an incredibly hype comeback to take out Tekken Master. The set is now 1-1.

In the third match, Biohzard got out to a quick lead but Tekken Master just as quickly evened it up. Bane was struggling against Atrocitus's trait, but was fighting his way through. After a super by Tekken Master, Biohazard fought his way back and it came down to a pixel fight in which Tekken Master won. Increasing his lead 2-1.

In the fourth match, Tekken Master wasn't messing around and took out Banes health bar in a matter of seconds. But the momentum God Bane, evened it up and we had a real match on our hands. However, Atrocitus's unrelenting pressure proved too much for Biohazard's Bane to overcome, and Tekken Master eliminated Biohazard 3-2.

The next match was an NRS classic, since MKX at least, with Noble's Dragon vs Circa's Forever King.

In the first match, Dragon went with Aquaman vs King's Black Adam. The match started off evenly and rather slow, but King took the life lead only for Dragon to quickly even it up. The match continued to be a little slower than normal, as both players refused to make any mistakes or take many risks. With the life lead, King managed to chip out Dragon's Aquaman and took the lead in the set, 1-0.

In the second match, Dragon chose to stay with ACKWAMAN. Again the match was even and neither player were giving up much to one another. The full screen battle was ever so prominent as both characters can comfortably fight from all ranges. Eventhough Dragon was playing solid, King again took down his Aquaman increasing his lead 2-0.

In the third match, it was another rematch. This time, King got out to an early life lead but Dragon wasn't giving up and evened it up, but match point was in King's favor. After a dropped combo from Dragon, it seemed to cost him the match as King's Black Adam took down the legend and won the set 3-0.

Now we are on to Winners Finals!

In our Winners Finals, we had Echo Fox's Sonic Fox vs Yomi's Slayer

In the first match, Sonic Fox went with Deadshot and Slayer went with Aquaman. Fox opted out of zoning with Deadshot and played more of a pressure game against Slayer's Aquaman. Deadshot pretty much kept Aquaman in the corner the entire match, but ended up the match zoning Slayer out with Deadshot's god tier zoning. Sonic Fox goes up 1-0

In the second match, Slayer decided to quickly rematch with his Aquaman. It was seemingly a good choice as he got out to an early life lead. Sonic Fox being Sonic Fox, however, he evened up the match and it was full screen zoning time. After many trades, Sonic Fox ended up chipping out and finishing off Slayer's Aquaman due to a mistake in letting go Aquaman's shield by Slayer. Sonic Fox increases his lead 2-0

In the third match, we again saw Deadshot vs Aquaman. Again the match was remarkably even, with very few mistakes from both players. Slayer decided to apply the pressure and consistently pressured with Aquaman's MB Trident Rush, and closed out the match. Sonic Fox still leads the set 2-1.

In the fourth match, Sonic Fox opted to switch to Black Adam. A great choice as he completely depleted Slayer's health bar. Black Adam's damage and pressure proved to be too much for Slayer's Aquaman, and Sonic Fox sent Slayer to losers and moved on to Grand Finals beating Slayer 3-1.

Now we go to Losers Semi-Finals!

In our losers semi-finals, we had Circa's Forever King vs NASR's Tekken Master

In the first match we had King's Batman vs Tekken Master's Atrocitus. Tekken Masters Atrocitus had a clean round and took out King's life bar in an instant. Tekken Master continued to pressure King's Batman, but King wasn't going down without a fight. The life lead was too much to overcome for King, and Tekken Master took the first match going up 1-0.

In the second match, we had a rematch. Tekken Master again applied insane amounts of pressure and took the lead in an effortless manner. Batman doesn't crack though, well, usually he doesn't. Again the early life lead and relentless pressure was too much for Batman to handle, and Tekken Master increased his lead to 2-0.

In the third match, King decided to switch to Black Adam. And once again Atrocitus got out to a huge life lead leaving Black Adam helpless in the corner. King, however, switched the momentum and took the life lead for the first time in the set. But he wasn't able to close it out, and the pressure and chip damage closed out the set for Tekken Master, eliminating Forever King 3-0.

Losers Finals!

For our losers finals match, we had Yomi's Slayer vs NASR's Tekken Master

In the first match, we had Slayer's Black Adam vs Tekken Masters Atrocitus. Slayer started out in dominate fashion and made extremely quick work of Atrocitus. Tekken Master tried to fight back but the lead was much too great and Slayer closed out the first match, 1-0.

In the second match, we had a rematch. Tekken Master started out much better getting the life lead early. Forcing Slayer into the corner, Slayer's options were limited and the overwhelming pressure of Atrocitus was slowly delpeting Bladam's life. Tekken Master evened up the set 1-1.

In the third match, it started out much like the first match, with Slayer dominating Tekken Master and taking a huge life lead. However this ended up much closer as Tekken Master fought his way back and evened it up. Tekken Master eventually took the life lead, and applied his pressure with no fear of Slayer's Black Adam. And in an impressive comeback, Tekken Master took the lead in the set 2-1.

In the fourth match, it was the most even the set has been. With both players trading blows, going back and forth. Tekken Master took the momentum and the life lead. Slayer wasn't finished just yet, but Tekken Master was hungry for the run back with Sonic Fox, and closed out the set beating Slayer 3-1.

GRAND FINALS!

In the Grand Finals we had Echo Fox's Sonic Fox vs NASR's Tekken Master

In the first match, we had Sonic Fox's Black Adam vs Tekken Master's Atrocitus. Sonic Fox's Black Adam was absolutely on point and he seemed like the pressure monster Atrocitus is supposed to be. Sonic Fox takes a quick lead in the set 1-0.

In the second match, it was a quick rematch. This time Tekken Master got out to an early lead, only for Sonic Fox to take that lead back. In an even match, both players were playing with extreme focus and complete resolve. It looked as though Tekken Master was about to take down Sonic Fox, but Sonic Fox with the quick turn around increased his lead to 2-0 in the set.

In the third match, Tekken Master teased the crowd by hovering over Gorilla Grodd, but decided to stick with Atrocitus. A good choice indeed, as Tekken Master made quick work of Sonic Fox's health bar. But Black Adam has some of the highest damage output in the game, so you can never count him out. But in the end, Tekken Master took a game off of Sonic Fox, putting the score to 2-1 in SF's favor.

In the fourth match, Sonic Fox stayed with Black Adam. Sonic Fox got out to a huge life lead and dominated the match for its entirety. Tekken Master evened it up and it was a fight to the death! As Tekken Master was fighting his heart out, Black Adam proved to be too much for Tekken Master, and Sonic Fox takes the tournament winning 3-1 over Tekken Master.

Congrats to sonic fox! MVP of the tourney was definitely Biohazard, Bane was too hype. Also, good stuff to tekken master, hoping this rivalry continues and is back and forth.

Congratulations everyone.

Bio and Hayatei are easily my favorite players, since they managed to get this far with distinguished characters. And props to Tekken Master for the sick Atrocitus.
