Street Fighter V General Discussion

It's a really basic option select. They input the st.LK and then ex tatsu while the st.LK is animating. The ex tatsu will only come out if the st.LK connects because it will cancel the normal into the special. Since you can't cancel a whiffed normal, the ex tatsu won't come out otherwise.
Oh ok I think I understand it a little. So I have to input the exTatsu while the st.lk is still animating. So I have 2 questions now, I tried doing this and the exTatsu came out on whiffed st.lk, is this because I'm doing the exTatsu too late? And does the exTatsu come out on a blocked st.lk?

Yes, you did it too late if ex tatsu comes out after whiffed st.LK. And yes, ex tatsu will come out on a blocked st.LK. What you should do is press st.LK at a range where they won't be able to block it, but if they stick out a button or dash in, your st.LK will touch their hurtbox and hit, then the ex tatsu will come out.

The trick is to do it at the right range where they can't possibly block it because they are too far, but if Cammy (for example) presses cr.MK, her hurtbox will expand during the startup frames and you will connect the st.LK. If you whiff, you have a very short recovery, so you are pretty safe.

Ah ok thanks bro.

Guys, so I have a habit of getting away from my opponent after I knock them down, I know it's better to apply pressure since I'm at advantage, now with a character with no invincible reversal it's always best to attack with a meaty right? But against say a character with a reversal what do you guys do?

Make a read. Risk reward is still in your favor by a huge margin.

Nice. Yea thanks. So it really depends on a couple of things but yea, it's about reading your opponent. If I go in for a meaty/throw mixup and he reversals then I won't lose tons of life, but if I read it and he wakes up reversal and I block it then it's cc time right?

It's all so very confusing.

Yeah you almost always want to keep the pressure up.. I mean, even if you walk right in to a reversal, you just taught him its a good idea to reversal on his wakeup.. So next time you knock his ass down, go in like you did, but block instead, so you can CC his reversal and poop on his life bar. I mean, most CC reversal punishes are around 275-300 damage on the low end, with a few exceptions being lower and MANY being *way* higher depending on resources and such.. Since a reversal does 100-140 damage on average, he has to land two-three reversals to equal the damage of your one punish and thats low end.. If you have a higher punish on deck, 350-400+ than he has to land three-four to equal the damage. Thats VERY much in your favor.

Honestly, this game is *almost* exclusively about intelligent pressure, so if you arent applying it (like me) you arent playing the game right (like me). Aside from very basic stuff like AAs and the most basic of BnBs, your pressure post knockdown is about the most important thing there is to learn in this game.

Are the servers down?

@FL Rushdown idk if you got an answer to the akuma v-reversal OS. But maybe it's increased hitstop because of the v-reversal. Do you know if you can input anything else besides v-skill and still get that second input?

I was thinking the same thing given that he was a gold player, but maybe he just didn't know the mu very well.

I think it's also that a lot of Laura players just forget you have to block. He was probably trying to flow chart his knockdown pressure, he just didnt realize it was HIM that was knocked down lol.

That was a great sequence though, please dont think Im taking anything away from your play.

Yea, from now on I'll definitely pressure way more, but intelligently, like bait, etc. I don't know man I feel like you play good but don't give yourself enough credit.

Oh not at all. I'm a scrub for sure, but I don't get too many perfects so I had to upload it.

I play like complete ass. I feel like I have a very good understanding of how the game works and the nuances and mind games involved and I have a decent technical understanding of FGs in general - I consider myself having been very solid at SFIV (i dont have an equivalent comparison, but if it were possible to convert it into SFV terms Id have been mid-high plat) - but SFV, i just dont know. Its why I post and bitch so much. Its like the game works entirely counter to my instincts and what I want to do. I never feel comfortable or in control, I second guess myself, etc.. But in all honesty, I just dont play the game much. I did for the first 5 weeks or so I got it in s1, but since the end of s1, Ive barely played more than 2-3 sets a week. Rushdown probably doesn't know it, but I've played *almost* exclusively against him since about s2 drop.
