FYI for new players:
So this game rewards calculated attacks and is paced for potentially really quick encounters / deaths. Especially the 1v1 and 2v2. It's like Dark Souls had a love child with the Bushido Blade series with a dash of the Assassin's Creed multiplayer. Expect to die as you learn, for people to be kind of dickish about it, and for stuff to seem cheap until you figure out how to counter/adjust.
- Getting a handle on the mechanics:
Go to the "How to Play" tab from the main menu to access advanced tutorials for universal mechanics like Parrying, Revenge Meter, blocking multiple opponents, and not to mention Block Breaking counters. So if you're getting thrown into environmental deaths a lot know that you can just flat out stuff it on a read. Works just like throw reversals in fighting games. You get a free 1500 coins for completing the Advanced tutorial so it's worth it for that alone.
There's also the character specific Basic and Advanced videos specific specific game mode tutorials. Finally, this is also where your practice mode is so you can lab up stuff like specific match ups, string timings, stance cancels, etc.
Look. People that have some preconceived notion about "honor duels" are deluded. There's in game mechanics like friendly damage and Revenge meters in place to help players comeback in a 2v1 or a 3v1 so the game is literally balanced around fights that aren't strictly 1v1. Which, speaking of 1v1, is where you should go if you're concerned about "honor dueling".
