The Conclusion of MKXL at CEO 2016

I did travel for this game. A few times. Even established a local scene and held locals (paid for the venue too BTW) for awhile until NRS fucked the game up because crybabies crying. And then slowly watched the game die out.

Sorry but the games dead. It's slowly going to dissipate and before this next 6 months is up, it'll probably be at side tournament status.
You can't proclaim the game's death after a 200 player major. It sucks that your scene peaced out, but that doesn't mean it's dead everywhere else.

If ESL picks it up again, no way do people not play it.

You're confusing local and offline presence (outside of majors) for the game dying, locals are dead for pretty much everything but smash aren't they?

Online is good enough to kinda nullify the need for locals nowadays at least, and there's probably less to gain skill wise than there is online now we have such a good netcode

I love this game, but Alien is going to make MKX look like a joke at EVO.

I was pulling for Scar big time. Definitely the most exciting player to watch right now. Him and Madzin, if I had to pick two.

I'm surprised so many complain about Alien and Mileena but think Scar is hype, I can understand when he busts out the Hat Trick Lao that is fun to watch but do you guys really enjoying watching Sonya and Smoke?
I love watching Scar's Demolition Sonya, personally. That 67% x-ray combo was sick. and I can't imagine someone not enjoying his Smoke. Some of the reads and punishes he was making with those Smoke Phases were amazing to see.

How many times do you have to write "is dead" in the results thread for a live game to make it true? Isn't a dead game one nobody plays?
We're about to end up with 600 entrants at EVO and a $50,000 pot bonus for a 'dead game'.

Ghostwriteous said it best:
If you don't like the game just stop playing/ watching and move on. It's really not hard.
For everyone still passionate about the game, we should be supporting them and prioritizing the long-term/overall health of the community over just this current title.

I'm going to be honest, I stopped watching during Scar vs Semiij. Both were playing solid, especially Semiij. Then Scar started eating him up with 50/50 after 50/50. All Semiij was doing wrong was not guessing right. I couldn't finish watching.

That said, great tournament to watch and it seemed to run smooth enough from a stream monsters perspective. Congrats once again to the robot alien known as SonicFox.
So can we come to a consensus that the safe 50/50's into more 50/50's meta the anti-hype to fg's

Hayate

Hayatei vs pl ended 3 1, he got mixed real hard by smoke. Smoke is actually insane lol
Yea I'm not sure why people think this character is mediocre. He carries a vortex, the smoke bomb is safe(correct me if I'm wrong) and gets a free "out" of wakeup pressure with faze. Seems good to me. Just because a character doesn't have an armored wakeup attack doesn't mean it's buns.

Mika has the nutty stuff midscreen as well. The full screen low gets alien nothing besides a knockdown.
The *crucial* difference is that Mika always has to get past your footsies range in order to initiate her dumb stuff, regardless of where she is on screen. She doesn't have a teleport, and she has stubby limbs. There are zero crazy mixups she can activate in neutral that cannot be easily avoided and reacted to. If Mike is applying her mixups, it means that you messed up on your anti airs and/or whiff punishes, or she significantly out-footsied you.

Meanwhile, most characters (not all, I acknowledge) are basically always in Alien's mixup range. You really don't need to have messed up anything for him to make you guess. The max range mixups aren't super damaging, but it's still dumb in many people's opinions that you need to guess at all in that situation. That's the crux of it.

It's like a trend to call underused variations/lowtiers hype, regardless of if they're actually entertaining to watch or not. Back during KiT, people used to enjoy watching characters like Demo Sonya and Takeda in top 8s, but now apparently they're considered hype killers and it's an issue when even one makes it to top 8 despite the fact that in terms of aesthetics and gameplan, they play roughly the same as they did half a year ago.

On the other hand you have the vocal majority that swear they hate the rush down, safe 50/50 nature of this game, and wish there was more emphasis on other metas such as zoning and footsies. But when you have a player like F0xy who gets most of his mileage from zoning, whiff punishes, and anti-airs while playing one of the most solid neutrals on screen, you're met with "b12zZZZzzzz". Meanwhile a character like Smoke, who's essentially just setplay/vortex haven, is hailed as entertaining to watch.

It's become pretty apparent that people just see what they want to see, and are fine with that as long as their views are in line with general opinions held by the community/twitch chat.

These are all fair points entirely. Thanks for having a regular discussion. I'm on the same page as everyone else with Alien's range fwiw

I've mentioned this before, it's kinda backwards I agree, people '5050s' when they're the one getting 5050'd to death, but when they're watching it they love it.

They cry for this all sacred 'neutral' that they want to see, which is like 90% of my game, and it also gets shot down.

I think people just complain for the sake of it.

You could probably count the amount of 5050s I did in top 8 on one hand. Where as the amount of 5050s I blocked? Gonna need a few more limbs :p
