Do we have news about a new possible patch? *updated again, Boon on twitter regarding KP3*

No matter what happens there will always be a need for "one more balance patch". Some buffed character is discovered to be ridiculous, some character with seemingly minor nerfs moves 3 tiers lower. There will never be a perfect patch, there will always be really strong characters and really weak ones, there will always be the need for one more patch.
I respectfully disagree.

I really *don't* think having a tolerable top tier is this unachievable utopia, and no matter what balance changes are made, a new disgusting top tier will rise to take its place.

Just look at SFV. Top SFV characters are Ryu and Chun at the moment. Despite having ZERO substantial balance patches so far, SFV players are generally pretty content with the game balance. Some characters are better than others of course, but balance as a whole is good. The top characters don't invalidate most the cast, nor do they put entire audiences straight to sleep. Good Chun and Ryu players are admired and not reviled.

Compared to brain dead Alien, who draws jeers and snores from every crowd, is widely despised, and almost no one enjoys playing against.

Melee is another example. The top characters in the game - Fox/Falco - are also two of the funnest characters to play as or against. Perfect balance is probably impossible, but having a fun/tolerable top tier definitely is not.

If they just Nerfed all 50/50's to be only safe or punishable the game would be pretty close to perfect and also tone down a list. (And give +30 on hit sand trap to erron :DOGE) As annoying as safe 50/50's are I don't hate them nearly as much as plus on block 50/50's. If I guess right it should be my turn and no bs where they can armor right after their mixup like alien. If you guess right against chun or ryu you can blow them up but in mkx you block right against ct Kano he's still going to make you guess. And that character is ridiculously good at conditioning the other player.

What is tolerable? Before KP2 I'd say, minus Tanya, it was very tolerable. Besides Alien I'd say KP2 is tolerable. Even being tolerable there's undeniably really strong characters that could use a bit of an adjustment and really weak characters that could use a bit of a buff. Where does the patching end? When is a vast amount of the community satisfied? I don't think they ever will be.

The Top of SFV is constantly shifting. Before people were talking about Karin and R.Mika, Chun was always in the conversation but it's everchanging. Even so there's undeniably strong and weak characters, I've seen people call for adjustments to Chun, buffs for Alex, etc. SFV people are absolutely talking about balance though and characters have already seen some adjustments. The only one that truly invalidates the lower tier is Alien minus matchup things but Alex has some really bad matches as does FANG and Laura. Balance as a whole is fine in MKX. Mid-tier can beat top tier, low tier can beat high-tier, Alien is the only outlier to me. Go through the combo breaker top 16 and skip any Alien match and see how good the game can be. You mean to tell me the good Mileena, Takeda, and D'vorah players aren't admired? Quan players were reviled but no longer, Tanya players were reviled but no longer, Alien and maybe, MAYBE Sonya players get heat just like Karin and R.Mika players get heat.

Yes, Alien, that's the problem. Give me any other character that is instantly a snore fest or groan worth when picked.

People HATE watching Fox/Falco though. Melee is a deep game but people do dislike watching Fox/Falco. Whenever someone beats a good Fox/Falco player they get ridiculous cheers just like when an Alien is beat. Also, the top tier shuts down/invalidates a lot of the low tier from my understanding.

Yeah I agree actually. I think Alien is the problem and the rest are fine. IMO the top tier would be tolerable if he didn't exist. Some would still complain but I personally think the game would be significantly better. That's why I think the "one patch away" thing actually has some legs to it. If there were tons of problem characters I would agree that "one patch away" is unrealistic.

Side note: Melee bottom tier is pretty hopeless but it's not because of just one or two characters at the top. They suck overall and get bodied by most the characters above them. Overall, melee's tiers are quite wide, but I don't think the tier structure kills the game at all, as I think a semi wide gap between tiers is actually fine, if the viable characters have interesting play styles (there are limits to this of course, if the gap is too catastrophically wide). Fox and Falco have the flashiest combos and best mobility options by far, with the possible exception of Cap Falcon. Because of their weight, they also create the most combo opportunities for their opponents (i.e., Pikachu basically gets no combos against 90% of the cast, but gets some of the swaggiest shit in the game vs Fox/Falco).

Uh, sorry man, compbros has the right of it. SFV has a tiny cast (<20) and a six month old meta. It appears to be balanced because its player base is MASSIVE so you're never too far from some top player whose making a shitty character shine or a shitty player who makes a good one look bad, but PLENTY of people think Chun, Nash and Guile (on top) and Rashid, Gief, and Fang (on the bottom) need changes. It has dlc panic characters (guile / ibuki) and annoying hope i don't run into them in tournament set play characters (Mika, Karin). Again, the only difference is SF5 has 18 characters and thousands of players to drown out the noise on forums and stream chat while MKX has 80+ characters and only hundreds of players.

Do you really think that within a year anew Evil Ryu or Cammy or Akuma won't rise to do like they did in SF4? A game that was balanced (by the supposed best) for almost a decade and still had plenty of 7-3 and 8-2 matchups?

Much rather see those 3 than Alien. I'm sure many would agree. Alien makes the game look bad.
Agreed. I fucking HATE everything about Mileena, but I'd much rather see her any day of the year than Alien (unless it's Konjurer).

I'd say the three characters listed in the post you quoted are far more impressive to watch than fuckin' Alien.

Mileena can definitely bore me as well, but if you don't think Hayatei's Ronin and Raptor's Shirai Ryu are fun to watch, then you don't like MKX. I don't mind Cage, either (especially Stunt Double). Alien just turns my stomach. Konjurer is pretty interesting, but I've never seen anyone play that variation at a high level.

Stunt Double JC, Ronin Takeda and Konjurer Alien are fun to watch. But Piercing Mileena and Shirai Ryu Takeda, ewww... Takeda's entire offense in this variation revolves around doing the same string into low kunai over and over again. Kinda like Alien's F134 or Tanya's B1,2+4 string. I find it so boring. Ronin and Lasher are a lot more fun to watch.

anything that removes the player from the match equation if not for executing bs
Piercing Mileena
Johnny Cage (whatever the JC community states is good, that variation belongs here)
HQT Predator
Imposto Shinnok (God....)
Ferra/Torr Ruthless
Takeda....

I can't watch Mileena. I literally stop watching any tournament when Piercing Mileena is played. I understand how good of a player foxy is but watching just the same 2 hit string for 5 games? Nah. I got better things to do. Would love to see that string hit so it isn't as mindlessly safe and far reaching with relatively speaking easy conversion into high damage. Kung Lao used to be very similar for me but not as repetitive.

At least with a Kung Lao Player, they're taking a risk at being hella negative on some of his most strings. Mileena can just "LOL you thought bitch!" all over the opponent like it's nothing, with a B12.

@Paul the Octopus

I keep looking at this topic thinking that there is new information. Would you mind updating the post topic with today's date?

At the moment it reads:

"DO WE HAVE NEWS ABOUT A NEW POSSIBLE PATCH? *UPDATED AGAIN, BOON ON TWITTER REGARDING KP3*

It would be great if it could be changed to something like:

"DO WE HAVE NEWS ABOUT A NEW POSSIBLE PATCH? *UPDATED AGAIN (20 JUNE), BOON ON TWITTER REGARDING KP3*

I don't mean to be picky, it is just great to know when new information has been added.

:)
