Okay I admit it, I was behind the Juggernaut hack and I'm the infamous hacker. Donations are accepted to help fund my work. :D
When i found the hack back in 2010 and posted here http://testyourmight.com/threads/umk3-juggernaut-hack-v1-0-fixed.24436/ i already had heard your nick and other guy of the mk scene with the same nick, but for surprise none of the two was the hacker. Btw i found in a very small forum of mk fans, because i was bored and looking for "umk hack" in google every so lol

btw this is the link i found back in the day, but this is not the hacker just a guy to take the hack from another site to be pacthed (same hacker than umk3 te?)

I know Konqrr already aware of this, but i really think UMK3 (at least the vanilla version for now) should be add to Fightcade asap. The more people play the more people will show interest to UMK3TE.

It's been a long time coming, but OP updated and 2.0.034 is released. Please post any bugs you find.

Changelist is in the OP.

Don't post issues with getting the patch working, read the included instructions. PM someone for help if you still can't figure it out.

And DON'T ASK FOR ROMS!

^_^ Enjoy!

@nwo asked in another thread about people getting on line and playing this game. No responses. That sucks. Does anybody remember how ultimate got widespread? Online play. I know that everybody lives and dies by off-line play, and many are probably too scared to play online for fear of videos "exposing" them being put on YouTube… But come on. Play the game.

Is this game going to be seeing any tournament play? Is it going to run at NEC? I've always thought that 3 just needed some tweaks to get completely reinvigorated, and it seems like it has happened!...

@Mikemetroid

dammmn the OSUB nerf :((
Yeah, I don't think anyone needs 51% BnB nor 59% easy corner. 41-44% BnB is enough.

Is this game going to be seeing any tournament play? Is it going to run at NEC? I've always thought that 3 just needed some tweaks to get completely reinvigorated, and it seems like it has happened!...

@Mikemetroid
There's a LOT of changes. TBH I think a lot of the original changes with the 32 beta scared some people off. But I think this is good progress.

I'll be playing this game tonight on Kailerra, at Smash FU New York. Anyone that wants to play come on. There has to be more than one of us. On my word, I won't record it. That's just silly. I promise ZERO "exposed" threads.

Who hired this guy, WTF?

@Mikemetroid
We would run a tournament if we get players but usually we don't so we just let it on free play and do exhibitions.

Getting people back into UMK3 was a massive effort over the course of years. Back in 2003 I kickstarted a kaillera scene for UMK3 once I had a PC good enough to play it full speed. This was an awful transitional period because if the frame rate was off on one PC, it would desync like crazy. As more and more people got with it, the online scene grew and there were a solid number of us.

We started by making combo videos around 2001, where we released a teaser for an MKT combo video that was not completed as originally intended. Shortly after I made a short MKT video set to Scum of the Earth and it was very low quality with otherwise basic combos. In 2003 we (DreemerNJ and I through our then gaming site Darktemplarz.com) released a full UMK3/MKT video featuring some solid combos complete with a trailer and teaser, combos of which players are still just discovering today as new because most new players haven't seen our vids. We spread these videos to any and all MK sites, they were hugely popular, and eventually we opened ultimatemk.com ,taking all the 2D MK players from those sites, centralizing our promotions.

Those trailer and teaser vids can be found here:

http://ultimatemk.com/cvids.php?vid=1

http://ultimatemk.com/cvids.php?vid=2

Over the course of the next several years we released at least 9 more videos, eventually collaborating with many players via combo submissions and then with NinjaGrinder and ded_ and others for more specific videos, increasing production and what not. South American players, many of which are still around today also helped tremendously build hype and promotion. The videos inspired similar ones to be made by other players and even carry on the tradition/legacy.

These videos were not well-received by the Chicago crew on shoryuken.com mostly because it was things they never found or "not tournament viable" (it's an exhibition for Pete's sake) and also that the lead guy wanted the game to die. The other players didn't though, fortunately, however there was a faction type war on SRK for years until we got them to show up to a tournament here in NJ. They knew we were for real at this point and eventually we were all working and promoting the game together. Mind you this is now several years of promotion. As match videos became more readily available and the combo videos spread, more and more players got into the game.

It was a massive campaign to build at scene presence for UMK3 and subsequent games at tournaments and it also built the online scene, which seeded the XBLA UMK3 scene that was massive at one point. There were a few of us OGs that basically fathered a handful of new players who then trained their own players. I played on Kaillera and XBL for several years, but I don't think I've really played in more years than I spent playing online. We continued to promote the game, even making a hype trailer for NEC6 in 2005, which saw an abysmal 5 player turnout.

http://ultimatemk.com/cvids.php?vid=21

Having said all that, with a little bit of promotion and effort, we should be able to get people playing, whether it's vanilla or TE, online or at tournaments. Remember, by 2010 we started getting consistent 32+ player tournaments but UMK3 had to take a back seat to MK9. We continued to have UMK3 and MKII tournaments though with gradually dropping numbers. The reason why i'm posting all this is to show a snap shot of just how much work went into rebuilding the 2D scene while the 2nd gen console MK games were sucking ass.

I really would like to expose players to TE because it's a very deeply thought out modification to the game, and it's hard to convey to players that the changes they are seeing are literally to be tested and validated by the community in these betas. We need to know if certain things are pointless, too powerful, could be better, don't look right, cause bugs, etc.

There's way more flexibility than some would think. We have the luxury of no deadlines so we can literally throw anything out there to see if it works and if it doesn't we can revert it.

We will be running UMK3:TE casuals all weekend at NEC and if on Sunday there is interest we will squeeze a tournament in for it. I will try to have two setups but I can't promise anything. A couple of my sticks need tuneups and it's just more stuff to bring.

I'd love to have a session on MAME with you @Shock
Best I can do since I'm in Cincinnati. I know he's temporary as built but I'm loving Noob Saibot, although I think having a freeze AND teleport he's a bit overpowered. Can only do so much playing vs the AI or a dummy 2nd player.

I will consider it. I need some pretty specific conditions because I play offline (not really any more) exclusively so playing online is frustrating, and not fun. We'll figure it out.

As for Noob, I wouldn't get use to him. If things go as planned, at some point he should play very similarly to MKT with balance.

I can host p2p, there's typically less delay. Just let me know. I usually go to bed around 11 eastern on weeknights.

Kabal IAFB is now a thing of the past.
@nwo

also noticing some combos cause exaggerated amounts of screen shaking. haven't pinpointed it yet.

the Kabal fireball we are tossing around ideas on how to make it viable but not stupid. The problem is there are 8 pixel increments where you can adjust how high he can be for firing limits. I think right now it's 8px lower than the original modification during this round of edits. So it was super nerfed, then half buffed.

The combo reactions have been edited in some situations to knock characters further back for say zoning characters. Sektor's 4 hit I think knocks them back full screen like Sub's 3 hit kick combo. The way they fly away can be changed to some extent. Some of them look out of place, but again it's a WIP. For example, I didn't like how Jade's Glow Kick reaction looked so it was modified.

With all due respect, I think this is embellished greatly, who was the first ONLINE players to even attend your tournaments, and how did these events have any bearing on XBL players? Not looking to start shit, but this is 100% not the case.

None of the powerhouse UMK3 live players from 2006-2010 ever went to ANY offline events. Correct me if I am wrong.

2 Different worlds existed until 2010, everyone knows this.

UMK3 was killed online in 2010 when the originial 06 UMK3 was removed from the store.
People could no longer be 4 deep in a room with thier friends and have social games of UMK3.
Follow that up with MKAK, and it was DOA. This is fact it cannot be argued.

The offline scene may have died with MK9 however I believe that after Aug 2010, and certainly after Nov 2010, the game was being bashed so bad by the very people that were supposed to be supporting it that it drove people away from the game because GJ's all of the sudden was the excuse why people were not good and it was an easy scapegoat excuse for MANY people.

At some point people forgot that this was a game, took the shit so seriously tons of drama, tons of bashing of the game and the players from many sides is why its dead. Not to mention the core group of players is like 40 years old on average now with children that are the same age as most players were when the game came out.

Edit, ment Online rather than offline

I'm talking about the transition of the Kaillera scene to XBL, and the new players that arrived who were trained by existing players who already knew what they were doing. We directly grinded out dozens of good players that would have otherwise struggled for a long time trying to learn that game, and then they trained their own. UltimateMK.com was a site where most, if not all the consistent players posted. This was part of the campaign.

Regardless of a split in on and offline, if the online play died for reason it doesn't mean the offline play died for the same reason. You are talking about a game isolated from all others because the only people involved are those playing the game online, vs a very specific community attending events that cater to multiple games. Online you may have people who say "Eh, I'm playing MK9 tonight instead of UMK3" but at the tournaments there are so many more factors involved. I mean, how is it we could run 16 player UMK3 tournaments during MK9 and then MK9 fell off the face of the earth when Injustice came out?

As for powerhouse online players (some played the game before Kaillera or XBLA), DC Hustle, Juggernaut, NoDoubt, Marvirasta, Crazy Dominican, DJ Eric, Bass, Sans, RichardEd, LI Maverick even REO and AC1984 were online players before tournaments, and some other notable players like Natas, EdFig, BustaUppa, Mach1, Illegal Eagle, CheatinAssWins, and I think DarkVirus, and others. Remember, the scene was growing during that entire time. Coincidentally, my boss found out about tournaments through XBL by asking people where he can buy a stick.

So far as UMK3 on XBLA being taken down, you couldn't still play it online?

No matter what, for any online players not making the effort to come out to tournaments, that's there fault.

I do agree that glitch jabs ruin the gameplay, and when they were found and documented, it took 3 more years for the online scene to be infected by it.

Ok. So point blank...why is Kara jabbing (essentially glitch jabbing while run jabbing, just 1-2 punches at a time) ok, while standing still holding down back block and punching is not?
You proved with videos from sj2010 that tactic isn't viable, no?

They definitely are not the same thing. Glitch jabs are stationary, you are constantly attacking while blocking, preventing throws and blocking sweeps. While you can mimic this result with kara jabs, you still are moving forward and there are windows of vulnerability.

Again, they are not the same thing.

Listen TE isnt for me so there is no point in me acting like I am going to play it but lets set the record straight about UMK3 Glitch Jabs,

Kara jabs and Glich jabs are 100% the exact same thing. You are canceling a jab with block.

Glichjabs are a second jab with the block still being pressed while standing in place.

Both Kara and Glitch Jabs bka Defense Jabs you MUST LET GO OF BLOCK TO ADVANCE!!

Only diffrence is that you have to guess correctly when the advance is going to happen with the real game.

There is no other way to define it.

So by yanking out the multi jab aspect of the game you effectively let me know that i after u Kara/Glich jab 1 time ur getting off block lol. How is that good. The least you guys could have done is maybe made it up to 3 jabs that way there is a mixup aspect involved with the jabs insted of making it predictable the game play clunky. And I wont charge you for that Idea BTW. LOL

Sad to say, this couldn't be any more true.

Most of the best players during that era quit playing because the top players/high level play had evolved and they refused to adapt. Bottom line. Extremely sad.

No they are not.

Kara jabs are either block, hk, lk, run used to cancel the recovery animation of the jab to recover sooner. Typically used in the strategy "run jabs". You can use them to attempt an aaHP with the option select of blocking if you are unsuccessful.

Glitch jabs are holding block while you jab repeatedly. No effort is made to cancel recovery because that is not what you are doing with them. It is to put up a wall of offense while simultaneously blocking low and throws.

They are absolutely not the same.
