Why did you choose your main?

Kotal Kahn - Ever since I saw that brief glimpse of the Brohemoth in the reveal trailer where he's crushing the opponent's heart, I was hooked. I hadn't been that intrigued by a character in years. And it definitely solidified things when we started learning more about who he actually is as a character; a savage and ruthless warrior on the battlefield, but does what he feels is best for his people and holds a certain integrity off of it.

His play style just gels with me as well. As a former Ares and MK9 Ermac player, I'm into the heavy hitters. War God may now be arguably the less powerful variation compared to Sun God, but it gives me that satisfaction that the other variations for the most part don't.

Shinnok - When Shinnok was announced I was eager to see who I feel to be one of the most underrated characters in the MK universe make a fully fledged return. I mean, come on, he's a fallen Elder God.

I'm also glad to say (as hipstery as it may sound) that I was one of the ones that have been with Shinnok before the Bone Shaper bandwagon. Hell, I still prefer Impostor for the most part. The mobility of the teleport and stealing certain characters moves is just too fun to pass up for me.

My main: Ferra/Torr, because they are cute and adorable together, and they give me positive feelings. Positive feelings are good for my health. Torr throws Ferra around, Ferra stabs Torr in the back, then they take walks in between rounds and she cuddles him if they win the match: looks like a healthy Outworld relationship.

Alternate: Liu Kang, because he is cool and all Bruce Lee-like. (I smiled when he showed the bouncy Jeet Kune Do feet in the story mode while fighting Raiden.) His movement speed is very quick and Dualist is a fun variation to play. Though, after the last patch, I completely moved on to Jason.

New alt: Jason Voorhees. I really like him as a character. The way he looks at the opponent in between rounds as if he's curious about them, then continues breaking their spine and choking them (non-Slasher) is very neat.
I barely knew the pre-patch Damned damage buff since I spent most of my time with his Unstoppable variation, so it's more-or-less whatever to me that it became a clutch buff. The old buff sounded really cool, though. After the last patch, I shifted my focus to Relentless.

(I have never watched any of the Friday The 13th films.)

Don't do it, man. Wearing that makeup is offensive to mimes everywhere.
No lie, I knew once Shinnok was revealed that if nothing else and at the very least, he'd be in my pocket. Been waiting for his glorious comeback for years.

Once I saw this little tidbit from the first chapter though, there was absolutely no way I could pass that up. Shinnok's revamp is absolutely astounding considering he was a poor man's Shang Tsung in MK4.

Also, like, all of his dialogue is S Tier.

Ermac - I just absolutely love his aesthetics and animations, and then when I got to learn his moves better, it just fell in line with my play style. I'm average at best, but it's always fun for me to land his overhead starter and then complete a 41% meterless.

Kano - because ball is life. Get it? SEE WHAT I DID THERE?

I have been maining Reptile in MKX since day 1 and I haven't tried another character. Maybe it's a combination lf lazyness with some loyalty idk.

I don't really remember why I chose him (I just went straight to practice mode) but if I had to guess, it would be because of some trailer footage I had previously seen that I really liked. I love the character, specially in his klassic outfit (it reminds me so much of the MK4 days). He's fast, almost chaotic sometimes and I can play "funky" with is basically why I still play fighting games, there's so much room for freestyling.

I'm drawn to the characters who have moves that feel visceral...

Violence in games to me is like...

I can't argue with that.

Syzoth

The last Saurian from Zaterra - Syzoth - Reptile
Because they robbed Syzoth of all his pride in this game. I seek to restore it. Takeda is blind god damn it.

Well It all started back in MK9, when that game first came out, I started with Cyrax, till I found out of the reset and crap, then I said fuck it I wont play a broken character, and said I will pick the hottest looking female: Kitana, loved her play style and never looked back, I was really happy when I saw her revealed for MKX, so to keep the tradition I mained her.

Mortal Komhat

Worst Well-Established Goro Player Ever
First I settled on Jacqui because I felt her variations represented the possibilities of the variation system - A short range, high damage one - a mid range monster - zoning tools. Of course, we all know how that turned out.

I went to Goro immediately after because Punchwalk. Not even kidding. I still work on him but I wouldn't call him my main anymore. The struggle is a bit too real with him, and after playing SF4 Dee Jay for 4 years I'm tired of the goddamn struggle.

As soon as I knew Tremor was in the game though, I was certain I'd be playing him. I expected a grappler ninja, I got what we have and I'm still happy. Metallic is just my jam.

Started out with gm Subby for the first week after release and got bored with his playstyle really quick.

Then i saw JC on someones stream as soon as he went "Ohhhhh snap" after uppercutting some dude i knew this was my character.
Has the best lines in the game afterall, more than enough of a reason to main him.

Put down the controller and run!
TG Raiden, because of Nivek. He made him look so cool with his Future costume and his cancels. Then Goro because of #Punchwalk and if that doesn't work, then #ExPunchwalk. Those 2 characters and a bit DF Liu Kang, Jax and Cyber Kano are most fun to play!

I chose Pyromancer Tanya to match up against any zoners, i also like her in-air and low special attack options.. makes it hard for people to know where i'm coming from when i attack, unless of course they figured out my patterns. I try to switch it up fairly often though.

Mere character love. Cassie and Jacqui are like one of the only kind of non-sexualized females I've ever seen in a game. Love em. At least no heels after so much years

Cry-o me a river!
Even though I've always liked Scorpion better and did well with him, in MKX it just didn't click with me. So I gave Sub-Zero a shot and things just happened fluidly without much effort from me. It also helps to have someone who's constantly looking for ways to make the character as good as possible.

I've fallen into what people call "character crisis" a few times and try out new characters to take a break or find an answer to something I'm not getting with my main, but I've comeback to using him more than I've realized. Still "fusstrating" at times though, lol.

Im always a fan of the cool ass hole characters. So in mk9 johnny cage was a no brainier. In MKX he doesn't play the same so I play with cassie plus she has some of the funniest intros in the game. And shes bae.
