Where's Ermac? Teleports and Soul Balls are safe, infinite d3's, b32 Low-OH string is unblockable ''The Unsafe God'' turns totally safe online (not to mention the float to ground slam or teleport)
Mileena with her annoying unpunishable and unblockable Roll, her f3 impossible to block on reaction (same as Scorpion's f4)
Liu Kang jails you with his ridiculously fast pokes and armor breaking normals, can't counterpoke him? Try to get out with armor! Uh oh nevermind... (did i mention his annoying zoning too?)
Kung Lao (Ahh even online this son of a bitch is dumb, don't even need to say something about him)
Kung Jin will always hit you, doesnt matter how, yolo divekicks, NJP's even a unexpected db3 of Bojutsu
Kitana zoning is already annoying offline, online is... *sigh*
Summoner Chi and CO Sonya Unblockable 25/25/25/25
BoneShaper... Just dumb as Kung Lao
And the list goes on, there is plenty more...

Almost every unsafe string/special turns unpunishable online, 5050s with other 5050s are unblockables (Honorable mention to Cassie :qtr1 Low-OH and f33 OH-Low) This game is dumb and frustrating as fuck online.
 
Shinnok is actually punishable online, it's that Mileena and Kung Lao who aren't.

2. Kung Lao (Buzzsaw)
3. Cassie (Brawler)
4. Kotal Kahn (War God)
5. Erron Black (Outlaw and Marksman)
6. Takeda (Lasher or whatever the variation with those kunai)
7. Ermac (Master of Souls)
8. Jacqui... enough said.
9. Kung Jin

Is no secret that in MKX, online is ass... Combos are harder to execute, spacing and footsi is difficult to utilize with lag, Anti air's are harder to utilize, and punishing becomes very difficult with some characters.

With that said, what are the characters that can capitalize and reign in the online Jell-o the most?

My picks would be:

1. Quan Chi Summoner (Unblockable Vortex in Lag)

2. Brain Dead Bone Scraper Shinnok (Sparks with his other zoning is stupid, as well as his vortex. Overhead is near unpunishable online)

3. Kung Lao Tempest (Stagger String Pressure.... Stagger String Pressure for dayzzzzzzz, and jumpers)

4. Mindless Sonya Blade All Variations (50/50 on everything, hard to armor through, lag is so bad that after a 50/50 she gets ANOTHER 50/50 with her military stance)

5. Kitana Royal Storm/ Mournful (Zoning is extraordinarily difficult to maneuver around in online, especially against Kitana who capitalizes on mistakes from people trying to evade her zoning.

6. Un-punishable Mileena (She is definitely punishable, but in online suddenly blocked ballroll into exball roll is a thing)

7. Liu Kang All Variations (Pseudo block strings and descent zoning in lag. I say no more)

8 Tanya Pyromancer (Jump back and zone for days. So hard to catch in lag)

9. Raiden Master of the Strom (Huge active frames with his 21 stagger string I think it is, and just a good character)

10. Takeda Ronin YOLO instant Air Chain Grab (Any negative string into njp)

What are your picks?
you really might wanna change this cause this discredits your stance a lot

If you lose to Mileena online via ball rolls and F3, you're losing to it offline. Unless y'all have super crappy internet connections, there is just no way you should be getting caught by that. Ball roll is 8f - up close, its a beast. F3 is 33f ... online it felt like 56f when I played.

I just don't get the Mileena is good online notion. Maybe you guys have trouble with that matchup but I will say if you're losing to a ball rolling, f3 Mileena than it may be just you. No disrespect intended, y'all are probably better than me but online Mileena is handicapped severely compared to an offline Mileena.

Edit: And Ermac is #1 to me. I could never get to him online.

This is understandable.. 4 bar mileena is okay but 3 bars or less mileena is a bitch. Least for takeda

I dunno, I feel like 95% of the time I have no problem with mileena online but then if its like a 1 or 2 bar connection or somethin, she becomes the most salt inducing character ever.

Any character can benefit from lag when on the offensive. Defense imo is what suffers most from bad online with delayed inputs. Every single thing mentioned in this thread is related to defense. Offense can struggle but muscle memory can correct anything you don't have to react to. Reactions/Defense is what is hurt the most online. Dropped combos and etc are not as much of an issue because muscle memory can fix that.

This is why NRS games take so long to evolve. The games always have spread out communities and bad netplay. Bad netplay results in a devolved neutral game and people misunderstand how matches should be played. In turn people think certain things like Inferno Scorpion are OP when in reality he was average.

Footsies are a bitch to play online. Walking around outside of a characters range and trying to block shit on reaction while advancing forward is extremely hard to do and dramatically affects the way the game must be played.

If you play online just play. If you're going to get mad about it don't play online. If it's your only choice for competition then you'll have to figure something out or play something else. Regardless of how good the players are stupid online shit will happen. If you're going to play online you shouldn't take it seriously and just accept it for what it is. I just do my best to make it enjoyable by playing people on my friends list.

Mileena is dumb online. You're just defending your main. I can bop mileena's offline no problem but her in lag. It's impossible to react to an 8 frame move.

Yeah...I'm just gonna call you out for saying that war god kotal is more annoying then shinnok online. Seems like a lot of people just wanna defend their main's lag tactics. The fact that you have ermac, erron, takeda and kung jin below him it actually mind boggling.
 
What system are u guys playing? And how much lag? In ps4 eu inferno scorpion zoning is easy to react. And saying things like mileenas roll is safe online is ridiculous.

So let me get this straight
The Cassie variation WITHOUT a +62 restand and missile setups is top tier online? Kotal and Takeda, with gaps EVERYWHERE, top tier online? The only way Kotal and Takeda are hitting you if the lag is equal is...if you're jumping randomly I guess? The EB variation reliant on run cancels, which are difficult if not impossible to pull off in the netcode quagmire? Ermac at number 7 and no Inferno Scorpion, and "Shinnok is punishable online" as a defense to put low and low-mid chars like Takeda and Jacqui up there?

You can tell when a player is skilled and lag had nothing to do with you losing to them. Its when its the same string or unsafe move over and over that gets me.
 
This game pisses me TFO online. I can't bitch about it enough. I've been teaching my little brother and cousin how to play just to have someone to play against offline. I'm just hoping that NRS can get it together before the next one because it doesn't look like they're capable or even interested in doing anything with this game online. I hope they don't take the 2k approach and keep toilet water online play for decades. The game overall is good, but if online felt like offline, I would give this shit game of the year. But back to OP's topic, Tonya is most annoying online for me, next is Predator with the cannon, Kano, and Kung Lao.
