C88 Zombieekiler

Up and coming sub zero
Forever King Jr.-Jason
Saltface-Mileena

Saying someone needs top tier to place is rude af. Suppose I like Raiden, Tanya, and Kung Lao. Suppose I decide to use only them.
By your standards, because I use only them, I must be a horrible player. And I would not learn a low tier character to appease you.

I know this thread is for fun, but even a fun thread like this reinforces this silly belief that our community strongly holds that the characters makes the player, and not the other way around. This "you're only as good as your character" dribble has gotten old and boring. Js

Any one that plays Nok! jk
I don't think djt places with SZ so much he uses him for a match up or two. Funny tho, i personally have to switch from SZ for certain match ups. But I played Tanya since 4 tho so nah! :p
At the end of the games cycle it will be the same 6-8 characters at tournaments anyways im sure.

K Brad says it best in this vid EDIT: Can't link to time properly, go to 27:20

yo! Real.T?

I didn't main Cyrax because he was a leaky boat. I mained him because he was my dude. Same goes for MK9 Sub (masochism at its finest <3) and DoomStroke in IGAU.

I'm not maining Tremor and Kitty because Sonic or DJT or whoever have you are playing them. I'm maining them becauae they fit every facet of my comfort zone as a fighting game player.

Having never won a tournament or a giant prize pot, I can't speak towards the the paper chase that comes with tier-hopping to ensure results, but I can say this from my years worth of time, grinding, character whoring, identity crises, brutal losses and epic wins...

...I cannot envision a way that winning with a top tier character chosen solely as a weapon can feel better than winning with a beloved character chosen because of the place they hold in your world.

Play who you love.
Im playing tremor because he seems better than sz not be cause djt went in on a few people sunday with no lube. Always hated when people do that. Marvel 2 was good for that. "Yo why you using clockworks team?!" "Why you using justins team?!" Like no, im using the team i want to use. I mean everyone wants to compete. :)

@MylesWright_

I'll be back 3ing
I would say Pig of the hut as well. It just seems like whenever this guy is using a zoning character that isn't 7-3ing 3/4s of the game he has something to complain about and even when he is, he's still not happy because there's 2-3 characters that get to actually play the game

Its impossible to tell.

Here's the thing. Some players just enjoy playing their style...if their style is learn the best character in the meta and dominate then that is it. That doesn't necessarily mean that they couldn't take anybody but Goro, learn them, and place top 8.

Nor does this mean that the low tier heroes are better players if they can place with low tier characters. Its most important to love the character you are using and have fun doing it. Maybe Mr. Aqua doesn't like how Lao plays? Maybe it doesn't mesh with his personality? Does this make him fundamentally better? No.

While he is a great player, it doesn't make him any better fundamentally than Reo who uses mostly top tier.

Side Note - I do agree there are certain players who complain if their character isn't top 10 which is bs. Demand Kung Jin nerfs until he is mid tier and then cry that your mid tier character needs buffs. Just play the game.

Arkane Slim

I did a lot but I never hated...
REO & Forever King are the first to come to mind. I was going to say Sonic Fox but i'm sure he could place Top 8 with Ermac.

sonic fox didn't place nearly as high with Mileena in MK9, then he tier whored to Sonya and won... a lot. I'm not mistaken, right?
People improve over time believe it or not, he was good back then but hes really stepped his game up more than anyone else has, and thats what it comes down to.

I agree. Amazing example.

Moving to the winning side of an international war is a much better and smarter decision than staying to the end to lose the war while your country gets invaded, raped, and overrun by the winners. I would be able to give endless textbook examples.

There's no extra points for the bravery of the losers. Someone like Honeybee would have been a complete fool to drop D'Vorah for Jacqui before EVO, and there's no other way around that.
So are you off Kano yet bro? :( Don't be a fool, swap up to Hat Trick

So this will be one of those threads by which players people dont like, need top tier characters, and players we do like, dont need top tier.

It's been a myth for some time that "its not the character, its the player" and it is bullshit. Do you think Sonic Fox was going to win Injustice at Evo2014 with Joker (despite him saying he knew all this tech with him).

The reality it is that sometimes, it IS about the character. Some characters are really braindead or really powerful or both, and you put that character in the hands of a great player, well of course they are going to succeed!

Kabal is interesting because he is top tier but not easy to use. I think there's a reason that only REO, CD Jr or PL were doing well with him. Pocket kabals were attrocious. But those three players were not winning majors with Sheeva or Kano and there is a reason for that being they never would have.

The debate is it the character or player is about 50:50 in my opinion. Character loyalists will find a way to make their character work, due to the dedication put into said character. You could argue that Forever King is a better player than Jeremiah, but in a Sheeva mirror, Jeremiah is more likely to win a ft5, being far more familiar with the character. If Forever King played Pig in a Kenshi mirror, Pig would likely win. If the matches were random fighter select, then Forever King will probably beat Pig in a ft5.

Sonic Fox is a freak of nature and finds a very powerful tool in a characters set and abuses it without mercy. Clearly Kitana has improved a great deal since the patch, because she was used in the Grand Final against Foxy. He didnt use Kitana cause he felt like it, he recognised that Erron Black was struggling with one of KL's variations, and switched to an option he felt was going to give him the strongest chance of winning against that particular variation of KL.

If people are going to say "X doesn't need top tier to place" they should name a time when that person has placed without top tier.

For example, obviously 16 Bit doesn't with all his Catwoman placings, or Wound with Shang.

Regarding MKX, clearly Milky Situation doesn't with his Reptile.
Sonic Fox with Kitana. Yes she is Top Tier because SonicFox wont with her. Yup, yup. lol

The thing is that this game is fairly balanced. Not perfectly but most people are looking at those numbers literally.
Tier 1 vs tier 10 would win only if computer is playing and does all the perfect moves.
Some people might feel more comfortable with tier 10 than tier 1. Lots of variables there...
