Why don't people use the ex grab more? (if at all?)

Is the ex grab useless?

I thought it was 0 for ex grab which is stupid to put yourself neutral for one bar considering they can just armor after and negate your mixup. Might as well take the guess on wakeup for no meter.

It's good every once in awhile, but most of the time I'd say it isn't worth spending the meter. If you need to make a comeback, I'd say is when it comes in handy to risk meter for a reset. Otherwise, it's just a gamble to use it unless you have practiced specific setups/situations where it can be useful.

As MKX doesn't have wake-up invincibility, standing resets don't have such a huge advantage over hard KDs as they did in MK9/IGAU. They're still (usually) better, but not one bar of meter better.
This. As a Jason player who already gets insane meterless damage, I much prefer to save my meter for armoring through pressure (with ex-choke/ex-bloodshed and ex-command grabs) and breakers.

Also, some chars that would benefit the most (shinnok and Erron come to mind first) have ex special moves they can use to gain advantage, even on block, so in most cases that's a better use of meter.

A 50/50 chance at 40% is worth 1 meter for me, especially when my character has very little options for spending meter offensively. So I mix it in all the time as Sub.

Day -4MONTHS Dual Jin main
Kung Jin - Bojutsu: slight utility, don't gain much meter due to lack of projectile game and using mb bo spin for wake-up and such

Shaolin: low utility, need meter for damage or standing reset

Ancestral: low utility, meter less vortex

I think it's because people would rather save it for ex moves or breakers. Plus any time I've done it, it's been on accident and I panic and get punished hard ... :(

Because meter is critically important in this game. A lot of characters need it for combo damage, to get off the ground, to armor out of pressure in general, or in some cases like Shang, to get their main offense going.

There are uses for it, but they are situational -- definitely something you want to think before gambling on.
When did Shang make it in the game?!:eek:

It's awesome for Sub, costs like 2% on a character who doesn't have much other use for meter, for dividends of >35%
There's no need to use it with sub. You can use the B12 reset for NO METER and get the same situation. Save meter for breakers and armored shatter/slide. Or run up, xray. I love doing that lmao.

You know me as RisingShieldBro online.
I abuse them with GM Sub. He has all this meter and 50/50s that can setup into clone, its evil AF, especially if you option select the low.

Personally I like the EX throws, but I only utilize them in the corner. Like someone already said in here, they're very useful for coming back from a life deficit. Even if they tech it's still not a bad option, you end up not spending the meter.

It's a MB throw, not EX. So you only burn the bar after you get the beginning of the throw animation, after your opponent's window to tech is gone.
Ah, good point on the semantics. Yeah, I was fairly certain but couldn't remember for sure.

I don't understand why you're only neutral after burning the meter. If you have the throw teched, aren't you still neutral? Different positioning, but still, the cost of a bar for a step or two closer (not sure of the distance) is steep. Seems a little goofy for both the offense and defense.

If your back is to the wall as the defender and you tech... I don't know... did you kind of do the opponent a favor by restanding yourself without it costing him meter?

If you're on offense, wouldnt it make sense to have significant positive frames where the opponent has to defend your pressure? Instead of burning meter and then potentially eating an armored launcher for it.

a lot of chars have standing resets that make the ex grab useless, but besides them I belive they have a good use.

I think its situational for those characters with50-50s and no restand or vortex situations. In the corner where your opponet has no meter it can be disastrous if they have to hold he next mix up. Uselesss?i dont think so. Situational? Definitely

In the corner, I can only do a B12 reset off half of our 50/50 in the corner. On top of that, it sacrifices like over 20% instead of the 2% that Ex-Throw sacrifices, on a very meter independant character. I'd rather not sacrifice guaranteed damage on a character who needs it. No comparison here IMO
