Also forgot to mention another pluspoint of using b22 hat spin in the corner over b2 hat spin is that you can cancel the b22 into ex hat spin when you blockconfirm it while usually you are left at -3 without hat if your b2 hat spin gets blocked.

I decided I'm picking up Lao just for the Pancho Villa costume.
Is there some type of visual cue when going from b2 hatspin into 44? Or is it just muscle memory?

Is it just me or is ex hat spin harder to link on hit? F2 xx hat spin, f23 is easier to link on hit than f2 ex hat spin. It seems you need to do the link immediately, no delay or it won't combo but the frame data says it's got 1 more frame of advantage on hit than regular hat.

So much lower is tempest damage after this patch? I haven't had the chance to try it out yet
About 2-3% less on most combos. It was barely a nerf to be honest. I'm expecting Tempest to get some really stupid nerf next patch like removing the ability to 44 after normal into db1.

I'm sure this has been covered, but I can't find it in this thread... is there any trick/cues that you can look for to reliably link the hat-spin to 44? I have been in the lab for a while trying to get it timed correctly and I can at best get 25% of the time. Also... what is the best poke to use in advance of a neutral state 44?

It's just a feeling thing. Practice it enough and it becomes pretty second nature, honestly. Nobody is ever going to be 100% on the 2 frame link ones but you can easily get it up to 95% with practice. Also, if you hit the opponent with hat spin straight up without it being a cancel you can get 44 very very easily. If you make the opponent block b2 at tip range and cancel into a hat they will not block the hat. This will catch most people and if the hat hits in that circumstance you get a free 44 without any difficult link.

I don't understand the last question. Do you mean what normal is good to use before as a frame trap for 44? There really isn't one since 4 is high and 44 has a hole in it so it's too risky to just throw out against good opponents. I guess if I were to say anything it would be most of his traditional pokes on hit but there are much better normals to use when you have good plus frames than 44.
 
Total nub here, but just a quick question. I'm testing out Kung Lao for the first time, and he seems to have a lot of combo links with strict timing, and I'm having difficulty pulling them off consistently.

For example, here's a combo starter from the combo guide: B2 Hat spin, 44.

B2 xx Hat Spin, no problem. Connecting 44 consistently without dropping the combo? I can do it maybe 1 out of 10 times. I'm not button mashing, I'm hitting 4 exactly two times. Is the timing just super strict and the only way to land it consistently is to just practice it over and over?

Someone on Reddit told me that that particular combo is slightly bogus because of the nature of Hat Spin and KL's relative positioning, it won't be consistent. Is this true?

Its a 2 frame link. What that means is you need to have precise timing. Your 44 needs to happen right after he kneels over. I recommemd trying 11 hs 11. Then 11hs f24. Go up from there

While I've got your attention, one more question. To determine that it's a 2 frame link, is that calculated because Hat Spin is 16 on Hit Advantage, and 4 is 14 on Start Up?
 
So can I just sub f23 for 44 in the strings in the OP? If so thank you so much. 44 is giving me a real hard time.
44 gives you the optimal damage. the f23 combo barely gives like around 30% or lower. The damage percentages in the OP are nerfed so the 44 combo now gives you like 36%-40% depending on the launcher/ender.

So I was fighting a Tanya the other day and I know the EX hat spin got nerfed to +12 but unless I'm on crack b3 is 15 frames which means there is a 3 frame gap, so how in gods green earth am I getting jabbed out of my b3 with a 7 frame normal?
