I never had an issue with many of the newer characters in MK, with exception of a few along with the ones that were just so damn forgettable. Though I do hope Frost returns in this game though.

I am not OK with having at least 15 characters from MK9 taken out, which sucks because that much is guaranteed already. 33 playable in MK9. 24 in MKX (not including DLC). 4 new characters revealed already, super likely more on the way. I'm alright with a couple of characters not making it, but ripping out at least half of the cast is going to piss people off.

That's about right.
It doesn't worry me in the slightest. I've said many of times they should leave the people that died in MK9 in the grave. I think those are the characters that won't be returning, with the exception of Liu Kang as a villain and Subby because he is so popular. I'm willing to bet half of the cast will be new and the other half will be returning characters. I just hope either Baraka or Raiden makes it in.

Doesn't worry me at all. I think EB is trolling us by revealing a bunch of the new characters right off the bat to get everyone all anxious about old characters not being in the game. I bet a majority of those character slots are characters we know.

Then add in DLC. At least 4, possibly 8.

If Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Ermac, Reptile, Sonya(via Cassie Blade), Baraka, Noob Saibot, Shang Tsung, Cyrax, Sektor, Sheeva, Liu Kang, Jason Briggs (Son of Jax and Tanya), Mileena, Raiden, and Smoke are in, then all is well.

My favorite character was already confired :). However, I'm not sure about Noob Saibot :(

I was kinda sad when MK9 first came out and it was mainly the same cast and the story was time travel, and it reset to the events of MK 1-3 and I thought we'd never see any sort of progression in terms of characters.

I thought the sequel-boot was then going to go into an alternate MK4 direction, but MKX seems like it's going in another direction which is awesome.

TBH I'd be pretty content if a lot of the cast bit the dust permanently.

Let's not all shit ourselves because of the select screen. That means nothing. Yes, upon initial launch you might not see some classic characters included. Whatever characters work with the current storyline in this game will be the ones on disc. The DLC is where you will see some of the missing characters return, in my opinion.

This is a GOOD thing. DLC is normally strong. I'll take an OP DLC Jax or Ermac any day.

I'm sure not everyone is going to make the cut, though. BYE KABAL! (I hope)

My fave Sub-Zero is in so no worries there. Ermac wasn't killed off in MK9 so he has a decent chance of coming back. Kenshi and Rain wasn't in the canon story so same goes for them. Kung Lao isn't as lucky.

There's also the possibility of a new cast minus Scorp and Sub. I remember Boon talking about that years ago.

It seems like NRS is going with the offspring generation route with all the human/mortal characters that can age like Johnny Cage, Sonya Blade, Jax, Kitana, Stryker, ect. So we will see their grown young adult children in the lineup. These will be the very young looking characters 21-25 years old.

Characters like Scorpion, Noob Siabot and Ermac are basically ghosts in the flesh so they're immortal and will still look 35-40 years old middle age strong and vibrant, all the sorcerers like Shang Tsung, Quan Chi, Sindel, even Raiden will still look the same because of magic.

The robots like Cyrax, Sektor, and Cyber Sub-Zero are no longer humans so they'll just probably look like upgraded robo cop machines.

Reptile, Sheeva and even Baraka may fall into a different category of beings who age slower than the humans like Cage and Kitana, so they may appear the same or slightly older but not much.

I'm not sure in the case of Sub-Zero if he is truly a cryomancer who ages slower than humans or if it will be a young third generation Lin Kuei trained in the cryomancer arts.

Kotal Kahn is the offspring of Shao Kahn and Sindel for damn sure.

Tigra or Leopora is the daughter of Kintaro.

I don't think it's the Sub we know though.

He says, "I'm tired of maintaining OUR innocence" ... I think.

Could be a meld of both brothers?

It's either Boon is trolling or he is taking big risk replacing original cast with new charecter. Looking at Capcom/Namco/SNK logic this is insane. Those characters are fundamental part of the game imo.

My main has always been scorpion (except in vanilla MK3 where he wasn't there and I mained sub-zero and smoke) so I'm good. Only thing I'm hunting for as I go is a secondary. Right now it's Cassie but could change depending on who's in the game.

Or he's referring to his and his brothers innocence since quan chi was the actual culprit


*edit: wait wait. Forgot sub got turned into cyber-sub in the story. Then was killed. This may be a new sub altogether
He may be referring to his clan as a whole then

In this interview the lead designer confirms that classic characters will be returning -

"You've seen Scorpion and Sub-Zero, but for sure, there'll be a lot more of them as well"

I wouldn't mind like 8 or 10 new characters and then the rest being returning ones... if we have 24 char slots, I'd imagine we'd get

Looks like they're taking the 3rd Strike route by getting rid of some classics, leaving the staples(Scorpion and Sub Zero), and introducing a ton of new characters. Not sure how I feel about this. It could be great, or it could suck, but I'm not going to be an idiot and judge a game a year before release.
