"Must I remind you of my superiority?" - Lex Luthor General Discussion (Version 1.06)

Are any of you finding that in the neutral game, you can pretty much just start throwing shit out on the screen and it leads to something?

Lex, to me, sometimes feels like a setupless setup character. Do you guys have a set plan in the neutral game or do you pretty much throw shit out and wait for something to materialize too?

I try to make sure i always have either trait out or at least a probe and depending on character instead of a probe a mine but i always throw them out with a spacing plan in mind...doesn't always work out but i try lol

So has anyone really noticed much of a difference in the probe "making people react"? Because i don't, but i just might be Blind lol

Honestly the patch to me didnt seem to make a difference at all for lex.
The extra damage on the armored b3 is nice but everbody got that.
I was hoping for a little faster startup on projectiles

I've seen nothing in terms of the probe buff. Maybe we all need to hit the lab and find something. The lance buff however, has been incredibly useful. People wont trade with me as much anymore and I now throw it out at full screen when I've got probes and mines out. People run into it all the time.

I wish the buff on the probe would have been better tracking on the laser. Batman players just double dash right out of it.

Lex is better overall, it's just barely noticeable. Like everyone, he gets to benefit with the MBf3/MBb3 buffs, his lance attacks do more damage which makes trades a decent option, & although it's barely noticeable, his probes do stun more effectively. However, it can be hard to capitalize on the stun from the probes. I do believe they should have done more with the probes, but as for what, I'm not sure... In any case, they also fixed the hit-boxes of his attacks so he's more likely to hit, which is also a +.

I find that because Lex is slow & requires time to setup, it's best to use him as a hit & run character. Play defensively, setup your traps & shield, then bait your opponents while blocking, & back-dashing. Then when you're ready to go on the offensive, use the MBf3/MBb3 or your trait (or both) to start your combos when they least expect it & extend them with the probe &/or the gravity pull. In addition, you can use Lex's long reach as an advantage to stay out of the range of a lot of the cast's attacks or to check them (like with his ji3 or gravity pull). Capitalize on many of his hard knockdowns or attacks that knock your opponent away from you for your setups with mine, probe, &/or energy shield. If a player likes to turtle, use the probe along with the orbital strike or missile strike to crack them open. If a player likes to zone (arguably, this is Lex's hardest kind of opponent to deal with), trade with lance blast, or get in close using (air) corp charge, forward dash, & energy shield (preferrably all of the above, if possible). If a player likes to rush-down, keep away & check them with ji3 or lance blast, set up gravity mines, or let their attacks bounce off your energy shield as you counter-attack in order to slow down their momentum. Lastly, this should be a no-brainer - trait up using his energy shield as often as possible. Although there's always chance you may lose it, the openings it provides are more than worth it.

It's not rocket science, people... ;)

The tracking is good enough. That would be cheap as hell if it were improved and practically guaranteed to hit every time lol

Probe has its own hit stun on airborne opponents, as does MB Probe. This (usually) makes it easier to extend your combo.

You can prove this by throwing out a Probe, delay a second and using B3. As the opponent is bouncing back from B3 the Probe should hit, stopping them dead in their tracks with a tiny pop up. Obviously this specific situation is bad for Lex, but it's to show what Probe does now. Before the patch the opponent would continue bouncing back to Lex even with the Probe hitting.

MB Probe has 2 'pop up' effects, with the second hit juggling them a bit higher. So far I've found it useful, converting some situations into combo with 11.

Before patch, the stagger animation on a Grounded opponent would usually make 11 whiff at distances it shouldn't .. I haven't tested extensively, but this doesn't seem to be the case anymore. Not sure if its a property of his improved normals or something to do with the Probe itself.

Name v.5.0 My experiences of the Probe changes so far.

Also, near enough completely useless as 22 is so telegraphed, but 22B3 has a ridiculous range on the B3 portion. From starting position, Lex can Backdash once, and still connect with it.

Right, I get what it does, but it just seems so damn useless and is highly situational. That's why I want to find some more practical uses for it.

I mostly use it to buy myself time to setup my energy shield. Once it's out, they'll either get hit by it & stunned, block it & still get delayed, or dodge it (if they dash forward they may succeed unless it's behind them, in which case they'll get hit & stunned; if they go backwards, they're delayed as if it was blocked, even on whiff). Regardless, the odds are in your favor that the shield's going up - that gives you all the advantage you need.

In any case, against characters that don't have great zoning potential I found a nifty little low-damage trap at long range. Throw down a mine, throw up a probe, then fire the lance. This creates a situation where they will be potentially hit high, mid, & low if timed correctly. They can potentially MB through it, but then they'll still take the damage & waste meter while doing it. ;)

MB probes are actually really dirty in the corner.

Throw out MB probes after a typical corner combo: F2, 11, 11, U3, MB probes

After that you basically get two free 50/50's. One before the probes hit, and one after the hit.

You can actually hit confirm a b1 (low) or a f2 (overhead) into a F3. If b1 or f2 hits, the MB probes pop-up the enemy long enough for you to throw out an F3, which you can then follow up with another full-corner-combo. Or if it misses, you still have another 50/50 because MB probes are +one million on block anyway :)

Though outside of the corner, I can't say I've found much use for MB probes, as regular probe gets the job done well enough. And I don't see much difference in the buff they gave the probe. I found it DOES NOT add on its own block-stun if it hits the enemy while you are in the middle of a -string, it needs to hit after. A 22 was still unsafe even if a probe hit the enemy at the end of that string. 22 is -14 on block, and probe is +20 on block. So if probe was "always causing a reaction" the way I thought it meant, 22 shouldn't have been punishable by the AI in practice mode using probe.

Im thinking of making a "high damage lex combo video" so everyone can see his superiority. Im up for taking suggestions from the lexcommunity so they know that all of us rock.

Anyone else pissed off when you try to do an armored b3 off a mine and the fucking mine blows up?.....its like, no! I didnt want that shit, then the combo drops. What am i missing? Why does it explode the mine every once and a while?

Mines can be Meter Burned to make them blow up like that.

As you try the to Meter Burn your B3, you're probably hitting Meter Burn too early/exact time as B3. Make sure you push B3 first, and then MB.

Hope that helps.

I found this today -

far mine, j2, b2u3d3, mb (mine), b2~mb vacuum, j2, 22~wallbounce, j2, 1~corp charge - 66% (i think)

its actually sort of practical for 4 bars off a knockdown without the j2 starter lol

Also i never thought of mb b3 doing that to mines lol. It's weird being the only special in the game you can meter burn after you can move around.

We need to be serious here in that Lex has one of the dirtiest corner games in this game right now. As long as we have meter there's like 12 different ways to reset them for guaranteed 50/50's, and guaranteed 13%+ extra on some chars. The options this char has is ridiculous. I love it right now. I really think, based on this last week with the patch, that Lex could be moved up to around top 15, or at least solid upper-mid if you don't want to rank numbers.

Definitely, do this!

I found a 99 percent 4-bar combo in Fortress of Solitude. However, it used the ship (and the gravity-mine-mb-glitch), and patch notes said some characters lose armor when using the ship, so it might be able to be poked out of now...

You know what would be awesome and probly front page? A video showing all 12 of those setups :) There has to be new setups now as well with the change to the probes.

I've been meaning to make videos actually. There's a lot of stuff though, you can reset them with like everything lmao. Staff setups, probe/mb probe setups, missile setups, trait setups, standing normal resets, I'm gonna see how to get mine consistently if I can but idk.
