Anti- Zoners in MKX?

As many have said we don't seem to have much as far as zoning characters (or at least ones based around projectiles). The only zoning that really seems to be present is spacing people out with normals, which is still zoning but it's not necessarily the kind of zoning you build anti zoning characters to deal with if that makes sense. You'll just have to space your way in from the looks of it

I don't give a rat's ass if there's a major lack of zoners in this game. Make everyone have to be solid at footsies in order to win.
Ughhhh. This is one of the biggest myths out there about fighting games. Good zoning requires patience and a decent level of fundamentals to be successful. Look at Sagat in USFIV. If you just repeat tiger shot over and over...well, you're going to get exposed. Good zoning players know where to be on the screen for there projectile to be somewhat safe and to be able to anti air accordingly. NRS games are a little hectic on the zoning, but it still requires basic knowledge of fighting games.

I know how zoning works, trust me. Perhaps saying a major lack of them was a bit too much. I really don't mind zoning. It's not something I complain about or anything. I'd just like it to not be overly present.

lol are you kidding me? Projectiles are a lot slower now. So far zoning seems stremely weak.

I think MKX will be more like defensive, rush down and footsie oriented. Zoning not so much.

I WILL EAT THIS GAME
There's an interesting argument in here somewhere.

The anti-zoning doesn't look like anti-zoning, because there's no zoning to anti.

I've been waiting since launch to see one brand new, bonafide, focused on projectiles and space control zoning machine. Not just in a variation, but at the base of their woodwork. You know Reptile and Kitana - and probably Kenshi upon his arrival - are going to have some projectile-based nastiness about them, so it's kind of out there, but there hasn't been a distinct zoning beast, to the degree of a Freddy or Noob, a Deathstroke or Zod, someone made for projectile fire and range all day.

My money says that between Liu fireballs, Erron Black gunplay, and Shinnok being a sorcery wielding son of a bitch, not to mention the possibilities of Predator, we've yet to see the best of what this game is going to have in terms of the zoning/anti-zoning battle.

I think they may have wanted to curb the "chuck fireballs all day" trope and go for a more positioning style of zoning.

What's mostly preventing it though... The characters look huge, and the arenas even smaller than MK9. If I'm not just seeing things, you're not gonna have a lot of real estate to do that.

The game wouldn't be MK if the majority were Zoners, that would be a b1tch way of playing. Trying going hands for a change.lol

This game is more about variations fitting the archetypes as opposed to the whole character being a one-dimensional type which I love, they're trying to make it so that a variation change is all you need in a tough matchup instead of having to switch characters.

Erron Black is a possible zoner and kenshi more than likely will be again and they are both good as confirmed what other zoners have you seen? And Mk doesn't half the cast have a tp anyways?

@REYTHEGREAT - the fu... are you talking about? At this point THERE IS NO ZONING in MK X.

High hopes for Kenshi and Shinnok but it's unknown atm. Not to mention that like half of the roster (atm) can be considered as ANTI ZONERS.

Not to be rude but man you're clueless.
What are you talking about.? Have seen the variations of some of the characters? lets say, quan chi, milenna, and others? They all have really strong zoning tools that players can easily play them as zoners. No every character has to be a kenshi to be a zoner.

here is a good example posted by matt over on trmk
": Zoning doesn't *have* to involve repeated moves at all. Zoning isn't just keeping your distance, it's about keeping within a very specific distance, which may not even be a half screen away. It might be just barely within range of a normal move. The idea is to establish this distance and keep it, because it limits your opponent's options and allows you to react more easily, giving *you* the control of the match."

Most people on TYM don't use the traditional definition of zoning, just so you know. They are mainly talking about projectile based characters.

That Don't Impress Me Much
I feel like the point here is just zoning in general so I guess my thoughts is...in Injustice it was not much of a big deal of a character zoned because there were generally ways out whether it be jumping cars or spinning across pipes etc. In mk9 it could get frustrating because if you didn't have a teleport or were unable to predict what a certain zoner projectile was going to be used you had no chance. From my experience, if I played against a character that I probably was stronger against I would probably pick someone that I could try complex combos with. If I knew the character was experienced I may pick Sindel so if they are non-stop rush down I can be like "okay stop it". This is generally why Kitana and Mileena were good all arounds. they had the best of both worlds. But I love a challenge so when people love to zone spam noob saibot I would play them still. I mean why not? it can only make me better. I ain't no quitter! #noquitality

This is cool and all, and a great idea, but where is the dedicated zoner with variations based around his zoning? Where is the "scary" looking zoning character? Where? I'm still waiting.

They have variations for the "mix" as you spoke of. They have variations for rushdown characters like Cage and Cassie to be in your face 3 variations. Who knows what they have for Sonya. They have variations where guys keep their tools like Reptile. They have variations where characters play completely different like Kitana and Kung Jin.

But where, where, is the full on zoning specialist character? Unless it's Kenshi and/or Shinnok, which is veryyy possible, I don't think it will be anyone else with so much of the roster revealed. To be honest, I feel like they're purposely trying to tone down zoning due to complaints from people who don't take the time to practice defending against it whining.

Scorpion is a counter zoner by default, he can teleport to avoid projectiles and full combo punish them after wards
Mileena ethereal variation is anti-zoner too aside from being also built for mixups on knockdown, her telekick and roll are anti-zoning tools
