Beliefs, Non-Beliefs, Worldviews and Philosophy v2.0

a sin is a sin me stealing is the same as me murdering someone.
see this sounds extremely black and white... this is extremely dangerous and archaic thinking.... What if i steal from the rich to feed my starving family??? What if i murder to protect myself or my family??? each situation is different and to deal in ultimatums undermines the complexity of the human condition and decision making. I have my own moral code which i believe is much more rational and sound then this.

Black and white thinking in my opinion plagues america/the world and i think it is a primary contributional factor in the downfall of humanity as we know it... i feel it is necessary to contest it.

I really don't like @Peckapowa 's tone in this conversation. You're not truly trying to learn more about Christian religion. You're trying to make Christianity sound ludicrous and unfair
I might be engaging in "reductio ad absurdum" in this case, which is in itself a logical fallacy, but what if the interpretaiton of christianity is itself ludicruous and unfair???

This is possibly the most stupid question I have ever heard (and not even funny)... and I am not a Christian

It's something I found interesting and wanted to know the answer to.

It's clear that you don't care about the question, but why would you take the time to ask me why I cared?
Here's your answer: each sect has different beliefs. Catholics think you have to repent, protestants think you have to be a good person etc. All sects agree that killing yourself is a sin, and by most interpretations that means you couldn't get into Heaven.

There is also people who care about more than the afterlife.

Giving The Gift Of Graves
Now before I ask this question, I would like to say that this isn't an attack on any religion. I don't want to spark any religious debates. This is for my curiosity only. I will not reveal what my beliefs are, in order to stay unbiased. Every Christian I've asked this question, hasn't been able to provide me with a solid answer.
Please be civilized.

Ok here's the question:

Christians believe that as long as they believe Jesus died for their sins, they're going to heaven, no matter what. So if this is true, why don't every Christian, gather up their family, and all kill themselves? As long as you are all Christian, won't you all go to heaven? Why waste your time on this earth, when you can kill yourself now and go to heaven?
Self destruction of the soul (suicide) will never, in any aspect, free your spirit. All religions believe this and so do all occults. Besides, they're probably only 1% of "true" Christians who follow the path of Jesus to to the T. All others are false believers. You know?! The ones who think they can cheat on their wife and steal as long as they go to church and repent for their sins. Furthermore, the third kind are the ones who try to live a good decent life while believing in an everlasting afterlife IMO. Although the bible and book of Revelations say that only Jesus has ascended to heaven. All others (living and dead) will be judged on the day of Atonement. Judgement day. I was born a Christian, but am agnostic now.

What if hitler truly repented after he shot himself while beleeding?
so a fat man doesn't get into heaven before a murderer who admits his faults to himself???
You have to remember the five steps to salvation: hear, believe, repent, be baptized, be faithful. They are have to repent and be baptized with the Holy Ghost to be able to recieve the forgiveness of sins. (Acts 2:38 KJV - "Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.")

Those are more situational. It is more likely for you to recieve forgiveness if you killed to protect your family, than if, say, you killed for your own gain.

If you do not kill the assailant in cold blood or for vengeance, but as an accident or a life-or-death scenario, it is easier to be forgiven because you did not mean to commit murder or you had no choice. You can be forgiven if you truly have remorse for the murder.

The stealing is more dependent on the circumstances with regards to the faith of your family. If they are all steadfast in the faith, it may be better to die than to steal, for they will all have their reward in heaven, while the rich will, in due time, have their reward in flames.
If there are those who are not yet faithful, I could understand stealing to preserve their lives a little longer for them to repent and believe, and then you yourself to repent for stealing. As for the little children: they belong to the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 19:14 KJV
- "But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.")
(The archaic meaning of "suffer" in this context, is synonymous with "allow".)

I don't really like black-and-white thinking either.

Is it a good idea to commit suicide so that you can exit this Earth and enter heaven? Nope.

The 1st Letter of John, 3:16 - "Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren."
1 Corinthians 16:14 - "Let all your things be done with charity."
Colossians 3:14 - "And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness."

We have to stand together, and live for each other in brotherly love and kindness. It is a selfish act to kill yourself to enter Heaven, because it is for gain, and not an act of kindness for your fellows, whom you should love as brothers and sisters. To kill yourself to enter Heaven because "why stay on this Earth?" is rather... inconsiderate for those that you would leave behind. ("Charity," synonymous with the Agapic love.)

Galatians 2:20 KJV - "I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me."

Our reason to stay here is to serve God, to live in faith, to help each other out in kindness and generosity, preach the word of God to those that are willing to hear so that they may be saved... all that nice stuff. Also, a side note:

2 Thessalonians 3:6&7 - "Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us. For yourselves know how ye ought to follow us: for we behaved not ourselves disorderly among you."

We all know that there are those people who are mean-spirited about things... :/

2 Thessalonians 3:15 - "Yet count him not as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother."
Admonish: warn or reprimand someone firmly.

1st Corinthians 6:19 - "What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?"
1st Corinthians 3:17 - "If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are."

To kill yourself is to defile the temple of God.

I hope you are satisfied with my response, Zergie!

Killing yourself (i.e. sending 1/3 of yourself to die on a cross) is a mortal sin, resulting in your being expelled from heaven.

Wait, what?

Ah, never mind. The believe in a "Trinity" is a political construction created during the Council of Nicaea. So "The Father" sending his "Son" to die on the cross isn't suicide, its a rare case of infanticide in a polytheistic religion.

No, wait...

so i can do whatever the fuck i want, "truly repent" and get into heaven over someone who may have lived a life in line with biblical values or standard moral values but worshipped a spaghetti monster, beat off a couple times to my neighbors wife and never repented??
Based on the Bible and doctrine, yes. For instance, someone who murdered another can repent and accept Christ, ask for forgiveness, be forgiven, and get into heaven. Meanwhile, someone who has lived a generally positive and good life, who has helped people, and never did anything wrong, can not get into heaven with their only "crime" being disbelief. It's pretty fucked up actually, and is the opposite of justice.

Why is it stupid? Please explain.
It's a stupid question because nowhere in any Christian or religious doctrine is suicide encouraged to get into heaven. In fact, it's actually actively discouraged.

It's similar to that video of the Muslim saying atheists should drink their dad's sperm in that regard.

There are plenty of legitimate criticisms of religion and Christianity in particular, but this isn't one of them.

I'm reminded why I find Atheist more obnoxious than the Religious
Ok, just wanted to point out that atheists aren't the ones going door to door interrupting people trying to convert then, standing on corners spewing hate speech, walking around university campuses handing out pamphlets about god and the eternal punishment for not believing in him, killing people over different beliefs, using religion to justify bigotry, preventing proper science education, preventing proper sex education and access to condoms and actively campaigning against gay rights; but an atheist on a message board said something mean so they're more obnoxious.

if the whole world was agnostic/ not religious the world would be a better place with less violence and less hatred and beyond less ignorance

You'd be surprised how much Aethist do that especially in San Fran because they're hardcore Dawkin's followers. Just replace the homophobia with Elitism.

I don't quite follow... How can homophobia be equated with being snobby or thinking you're better than someone else? One is the denial of rights to, discrimination against and harassment of gay people. The other is thinking you're better than some people and acting snobby.

Also, atheists do not go door to door to convert people, nor do they spill 'sanctioned' hate speech, nor do they kill people for different beliefs nor do they prevent proper sex and science education so I don't understand where you're coming from at all.
