General/Other - Raiden "WHO'S NEXT?" RAIDEN Revealed for Mortal Kombat X at Evolution 2014!

well so far out of all the characters shown, who seems the most broken to you?
hard to tell because they haven't been displayed that way and i haven't seen training mode or footsie tools or anything... but knowing nrs and knowing that this game has so many new variables (run, interactables new movesets) being introduced i doubt balance will be achieved, it could be characters are broken in comparison to others.

but potential candidates that caught my eye because i am always going for broke

inferno scorpion has potential
clone sub might get zoned but might be too crazy in footsies game
cassie cage nutpunch or missiles
and raiden variations 2 and 3 (i see raiden as a late game bloomer he is a space control genie and the fundamentals need time to develop to play a char like that)
displacer might be insanely mobile and may even have cheap frame advantage (or be super unpredictable) for rushdown and such.. coupled with the fact i saw him tp full screen, and delay his teleports and the fact that interactions help movement he might be godlike at runaway.
and i have no fucking idea what those orb things can do, but if his tp is real good still and he has footsie tools he might be obnoxiously good at turtling with those fuckers

come to think of it his ex fireball looks crazy in variation 1, seems like an amazing tool for a turtle/tper

sub might get zoned, don't see him being broke
kotal and ferra will be too clunky
not sure about bug bitch, haven't paid much attention, she's fuckin corny
not sure about the properites of scorpions specials
raiden might have startup issues on his moves

who knows about footsie tools

its all dependant on the frame data... and thats for sure not set yet. so you cant say anything about broken stuff yet. i mean back in 2012 after i played the injustice demo at gamescom i thought cyborg would be kabal tier...

just theory fighting 7/8 months before the game. But i have learned from inj and mk what makes a char good. mobility, space control, and versatility. Then again i had an ares boner


but too me, teleport characters seem to have been bad in nrs games (ares and such) because they sacrifice important options like good normals and mobility. martian is so good because he has that and amazing projectiles.

raiden could be a victim of in variation 2, having no good projectile or comeback factor, in variation 1 he could be a victim of that fireball being slow as fuck and needing meter to be good (nvm i realized he can hold it down, i kind of liek variation 1) And in variation three, once again, bad startup frames and no projectile for trades.

systematically he might not be able to reliably counter-zone on reaction and some fireballs might be too good, and characters might be able to run at him too easily and have overwhelming offense (which his tp is good against), or he might have bad normals

really i have no fucking idea because its way way way way too early to tell.

Honestly, I was paying more attention to Kotal Kahn. He's looking and sounding more and more awesome with these videos.

But this thread is about Raiden, so, umm, yeah, good Raiden reveal.

his mb teleport is most likely like zatannas where he can decide where he wants to appear infront of his opponent/behind or like far away from him
If you watch towards the end of the video, he holds it and doesn't appear for a while.

yeah but still, its frame data. how mobile would lets say scorpion be with a -15 teleport? how much space control would raven have with slow pillars? how good would mmhs arsenal of tools be if they were mainly punishable?

Okay, so I'll admit that I wasn't hyped at all when it was pretty much obvious that it was going to be Raiden that was getting revealed. But holy shit, after seeing the trailer, he's looking pretty damn awesome.

Secondly, I am SO glad that they finally showed REAL combos being used by the characters that were shown.

Lastly: DEM PARTICLE EFFECTS. O.O

Oh, also, this was bad ass:

"You have no chance, Thunder God."
"Thunder blots out the sun."
"Temporarily."

THESE CHARACTER SPECIFIC QUOTES ARE BLOWING INJUSTICE AWAY.
 
MK9 Raiden was bland as fuck.

MKX Raiden looks like a huge improvement.
He looks and feels like a god this time around.
I definitely agree with that. His variations look super strong too. MKX Raiden will be a force to be reckoned with!

I guess I was just hoping for someone else. I'm still waiting for that character reveal that will really make me go "OH SHIT".

about the real combos, ive watched the trailer like 10 times now and its all REALLY basic but flashy stuff. can just imagine how much swag raiden will have in pro hands.

Yeah, I agree it's basic. But at least it's 10x better than the shit we saw when the game was first revealed, y'know? At least we have somewhat of an idea of what characters can do unlike before.

That's about right.
So things I noticed:

-He has regular teleport, and a forward teleport that still leaves him in front, Ares-style.
-But it also seems like he has a MB teleport, which doesn't instantly make him reappear -- so he stays off the screen for a bit and then comes back; maybe he has a window to choose when he reappears?
-He seems to have some kind of charged repel or parry move in Stormlord form.
-He has good range on his X-ray; maybe not as crazy as Sub Zero in MK9, but if it starts up as fast as it looks it should be useful.
-He gets hit with a Kratos-esque stun parry around 45 seconds.
-He teleports mid-combo in Thunder-god stance -- so maybe that's just a special part of the string?
He had that teleport in MK9, but it was ex tele. As far as the mid combo telporting maybe he just cancelled it? If so, then is the other variation really needed?

The teleports do looks a lot quicker for his displacer variation. Looking forward to teleporting between strings again.
