The Inevitable Hype Killing Guest Character

I think they should stick with "big" characters that would hit with an audience large enough for them to actually make that DLC money.

Kratos, Freddy, Scorpion, all pretty well known and popular enough to warrant inclusion.

Geralt could fit, and the Witcher games didn't sell like shit as far as I know, but he isn't a name you could throw out in public and get an instant recognition from.

Kratos doesn't really count here, because something tells me he was more of Sony's idea.

It's cool, everyone would just think Geralt is Sephiroth.

This.

Everyone and their grandma was excited for the idea of Freddy and Jason being Halloween DLC but then did a 180 once Freddy did show up. Like what the Hell happened? Why the sudden change of heart?
I liked him.

But... I wanted both, just having one was a little disappointing.

During the first months of the game's life, every one and their auntie June BEGGED and PLEADED for Martian Manhunter in Injustice.

We now have him, and not only do VERY few people actually play him, but he's constantly the target of hate/scorn.

It's best just not to listen to people who want things, because they don't realize that they don't know what they actually want.

The answer is obviously someone how breaks the rules of the game and has NOTHING in common with the rest of the cast of characters thus fucking up the lore. Like for example they should add Hawkgirl with the ability to fly nonstop.
And the rest of the MK cast should not be able to hit her with there attacks because she's designed for Injustice and not MK.

You think I'm being silly? Nah son, just trying to use the infamous NRS logic, but to be honest it hurts my brain :(.

How would they fuck up the lore if they are not written in the story?

Scorpion and Freddy were not in the canon MK9 story line found in Story mode.

Well lore is more then the story dude. Like if we have a fighter that's based on medieval times so the characters have swords, axes and armor and shit.
Then NRS put Cyborg in there with his cybernetic body, shitting on the knights and vikings with his superior abilities (Cyborg top tier yo~~~).
But it's OK because he wasn't written in the story, he was a DLC character?

He's still a part of the game and adds to the overall aesthetic of the game aswell..
So that doesn't make sense to me..

Are you perhaps an NRS employee? :D

I wish. I'd love the NRS employee's meager salary. It's still a hell of a lot better than my own.

You talk about the cyborg being better then the knights, but you don't take into the account that some of those knight were probably shitting on the other knights as hard as the cyborg is.

Or to simplify, Freddy and Scorpion may have been great when they were first released, but fucking Superman, Aquaman, Batman, Deathstroke, Kung Lao, Kenshi, Kabal, and Cyrax were already running shit before they showed up.

Balance can't be used as an argument against them if the game they're put in already is unbalanced at the time of their release/reveal.

And people would buy that cyborg up, because it would be something different and interesting, were you trying to say that people wouldn't buy a cyborg for a medival fighting game because of something as flimsy as aesthetics?

And again, I know for a fact, no matter who you are, if a character that can fight and/or kill that you love or care deeply about is revealed to be the guest character, any one complaining about guest characters would switch sides in a hurry.

Wether they openly admit it or not.

Mainstream has everything to do with it. The guest character is added to the game so people will buy it. Kratos, Freddy and Scorpion weren't put in the game because NRS thought a couple people might like them. They added them because they're all recognizable.
You have no proof of any of this. It's just as likely the guests were chosen because (GASP) they actually like the characters. You're just using your own disappointment as validation for "sketchy" logic. Keep it up and I'll nominate you for the Fred Marvel award.

The hate isn't because he's MMH it's because he's OP if he wasn't in Injustice 2 I'd still ask for him because he should be in the game.

I'd say it was more than likely a little bit of both.

NRS doesn't seem the type to put a character they dislike in their game.

They also need to make money, and WB wants them to make money, so they probably pick characters that they both like and know will sell their game/DLC pretty well.

Ok, man. I anxiously await the super obscure character NRS puts in the game because the developers are really into him/her instead of someone like Jason Vorhees, for example. Guest character DLCs are put in the game to make money. No other reason. I don't blame them for that, at all.

The story of Kratos goes that HHgamer talked to both parties and they realized they both had a mutual interest. Scorpion, similarly, was birthed out of Boon's love for the character and an excellent opportunity to work with Jim Lee. Freddy could very well have been the result of some sort of posturing or pressure from WB, but given there was no tie in movie, no in game nods, and he didn't even look like "current" Freddy or have any nods at all to current WB properties, it seems WAY more likely to me that they just sat down and said hey, we're owned by WB why don't we do a fun WB character for our last dlc.

Of course, you could just be the sort of cynic that just assumes devs are always lying and have no artistic integrity at all, but I don't know what NRS would have done to illicit that response or how you go to bed the authority on the subject you are, but either way. The notion that MK (a game that is guaranteed to be a million seller) needs a guest character to be popular or mainstream is retarded. They could put Toonces the driving cat or Ralph Wiggum in it and it would still fly off the shelves.

I personally hope Geralt gets the bid. He's got a new game coming out. He fits the tone and he's got tons of material to work with movewise. If anything, it'll be nice to play with a Geralt that's properly animated.
