Interesting. Does YouTube recognize them, like do they tag them as a video game? (I.E. Mortal Kombat X - 2015)

Yup! And even though it has "Mortal Kombat X", still monetized. It might have to do with the title, but I don't think their formula is perfect.

Most of my videos are monetized. Some are not. There is no distinction between their descriptions, tags, etc. I juts don't have "Mortal Kombat X" in the title.
