Ultra Street Fighter IV pro Valentin “Valmaster” Petit of France was banned from wearing his team colors to Capcom sponsored event "Capcom Cup" over the weekend.

Up top is a link to the article. I personally struggle to see why it should be an issue, anywhere that SFIV is playing at, there should be absolutely no issue with someone wearing a shirt that say "YP" on it (absolutely nothing specifically stating YouPorn).

The decisions was made by Capcom, and given their recent cave in to feminist culture seems like "outside influences" have more say on their scene than the fans. Just my perspective.

The article is fucking terrible btw I just linked it for a source, if someone else can be bothered to find something written by someone who isn't a 40 year old with a failing marriage and signs of brain damage, please let me know and I'll replace the link.

Here is some choice quotes from someone with absolutely no understanding of the competitive fighting scene who obviously spent absolutely no time at all even bothering to try find out. A reminder that being able to write articles on the internet doesn't make you a journalist:

Check out the games that Team YP players play.

Super Smash Bros, Ultra Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat to name a few. What age bracket do you think about when you talk about those games? My son was playing Super Smash Bros when he was 8-years old.
Speaking in an interview with Fortune, Brad Burns Vice President of YourPorn, told them that a large number of their audience enters their site via their consoles. 51% through PlayStation, 39% through XBox and 10% from Wii. 91.5% of these gamers are male, and 77% aged between 18-34.
In that same interview, Burns said they never promote the YouPorn brand or any form of porn to their Team YP fans. Does that mean that Team KKK and Team Crazy Jihadists are allowed to play as long as they don’t promote their primary business?
The outlandish nature of this statement aside, acting as though porn is an "evil" on the level of KKK or terrorism, Just a reminder that the team's official name, is Team YP, not team youporn. "Team CJ" would be the equivalent he's looking for. Here's the official description of the team, first blurb under google:

"Team YP is positioned as a safe for work brand, avoiding any mentions of parent company YouPorn on the team's website, social media accounts and jersey."
And who is Burns kidding.

Even by covering this story I am promoting his brand.

Shame on you.

Shame on me.
What next?

Global Poker League franchises sponsored by xHamster?
Sex is powerful stuff for adults, let alone teenagers and children. So when I learned that Capcom had refused to allow Street Fighter IV player Valentin “YP_Valmaster” Petit to compete in the Capcom Cup event in San Fransisco this weekend, in his team colours I was happy.

One doubts anyone aged below 18 will be picked up in that mix
context for the last quote: in regards to who the target audience that he thinks will suddenly become YouPorn customers thanks to this marketing. Basically thinks that the player for the YouPorn owned team is there recruiting 8 year olds to watch porn with the "advertisement" of the site by having the initials "YP" on his shirt. This moron is the reason stupid rules like this are put in effect, these are the people Capcom is worried about "offending"

Here was a good response to the article from a viewer:

"What's even funnier is the pro Street Fighter player, Valmaster, wore the "censored" version at Capcom Cup, and THEY CENSORED IT FURTHER TO THE POINT WHERE YOU COULDN'T EVEN SEE THE CENSORED LOGO.

It's hilarious since it just makes more exposure in like Twitch Chat that he's sponsored by YouPorn. Opposite effect."

Here's a picture of the censored shirt BEFORE Capcom's input, it was Team YP's clever response to this nonsense by creating a pixelated shirt for their competitors to wear at Capcom events. Was still too offensive and needed to be censored further apparently:

possibly NSFW (if you work for Capcom)

Oh the humanity, won't somebody think of the children?!?

What do you guys think

WAR SEASON "THE WEAK EXPOSED!"
Didn't realize youporn was valmasters sponsor lmao.

Anyway, with SFV coming out soon I can see why capcom would want to be careful. They need to maximize sales with SFV and this kind of goes with how the censored mikas butt slap, they simply don't want to offend people.

Personally, I don't find youporn nor mikas butt slap offensive, but to each his own.

And this is exactly the problem. They are too scared of possibly "offending someone" when there is always someone who will be offended about something matter what you do. Maybe they should focus more on not pissing off their actual fans and now competitors.

In all honesty, YouPorn sponsoring professional gamers doesn't make the most sense. That said, it's not like the logo was obscene in anyway. But it's whatever. You can't really be mad at them.

Well with all that FGC controversy people talk about Youporn. Mission accomplished.

Weird thing is they are really trying. They should create a label under YP what has no association with porn in the title.

Just change the YP to "Yomi Play" for example.:DOGE

Your perspective is wrong. They EXPLICITLY said it wasn't due to outside pressure.

Nice try sneaking that in.
They explicitly said it wasn't due to outside pressure, and then clarified that it was in fact, due to outside pressure. Some of the worst PR I've ever seen, re-read how blatantly obvious that was.

But for those who struggle reading between the lines you needn't worry, as the prior interview he explicitly said that it was so that they didn't offend women. The statements you are referring to are damage control, if you can't see that I won't bother arguing it to try and convince you and I'm sure you are seeing it how you want regardless of what I say

Unfortunately that's literally what they've already done, there is no mention of porn or even the name of the company anywhere on Team YP. People like the 40 year old married man who wrote the article, and some of our more sensitive TYM users, are purely butt hurt that they even OWN a team. Here's a statement here

Team YP is positioned as a safe for work brand, avoiding any mentions of parent company YouPorn on the team’s website, social media accounts and jersey. However, even with these measures, it was not enough to satisfy every single person on the planet. “We’ve had success with Team YP and have already gone to great lengths to try and make sure that our team name does not offend a single gamer or Street Fighter tournament organizer,” said Burns.

Guess they underestimated how much a giant pussy the world is becoming because apparently just the act of even creating their own team is morally on the level of Jihadists and the KKK. Not even exaggerating, he non-ironically compared it to that in the article.

As for anyone here on this site supporting Capcom caving in on absolutely everything - you should be ashamed. It's one thing for a sheltered middle aged married man who clearly doesn't understand anything here from the team itself to what eSports actually is to be hating on it, and it's another thing for someone on here to join in with him just to play the victim role and FIND something to be "offended" about. The people you are ostracising here are supporting the FGC big time with this move. Them doing what they are doing is literally increasing your chance of getting sponsored or be able to go pro and in this scene there is comparatively little opportunity for that. And even if you don't, they are doing that for someone else just like you, and increasing the competitive scene by having this person able to tend more events and focus more on their game, miss beneficial for everyone, the FGC needs more company's to do this, hating a SFW team for no other reason than being NSFW when they aren't and simply because they are owned by a NSFW company is just so cringey.

Why is feminism even being brought up in this discussion? This has nothing to do with feminism.

A lot of major esports tournaments have policies against advertising anything of a sexually explicit nature. Even if YouPorn tried to reinvent its brand to be "work friendly", the sponsor itself would still be a porn site(This has always confused me btw, why would you sponsor a team while not trying to advertise...).

Capcom is not the only one that has done this. MLG, Red Bull, and other esports tournaments have been hesitant to allow YouPorn to sponsor any teams of other genres like LoL or what have you. There's an article on it for those interested(and no, it was not written by Kotaku, it was on cnbc).

What it boils down to is Capcom doesn't want their competitive gaming scene to be connected to the adult film industry in anyway. Whether that is right or not is a completely different discussion, but it has nothing to do with feminism. In fact this thread seems to be a thinly veiled attempt for a bunch of dudes to shit on feminism because of what one game company did on their own accord. It's kinda sad.

Edit: Article I was mentioning, for reference:
http://www.cnbc.com/2014/07/15/competitive-gaming-groups-wary-of-porn-sponsorship.html

Edit 2: And before people jump down my throat, keep in mind that I myself am not a feminist(at least not what most people would consider feminist).
