YouPorn eSports Member Banned from Wearing Team Colours at Capcom SFIV event

God Confirm

We're all from Earthrealm. If not, cool pic brah.
Why is feminism even being brought up in this discussion? This has nothing to do with feminism.

A lot of major esports tournaments have policies against advertising anything of a sexually explicit nature. Even if YouPorn tried to reinvent its brand to be "work friendly", the sponsor itself would still be a porn site(This has always confused me btw, why would you sponsor a team while not trying to advertise...).

Capcom is not the only one that has done this. MLG, Red Bull, and other esports tournaments have been hesitant to allow YouPorn to sponsor any teams of other genres like LoL or what have you. There's an article on it for those interested(and no, it was not written by Kotaku, it was on cnbc).

What it boils down to is Capcom doesn't want their competitive gaming scene to be connected to the adult film industry in anyway. Whether that is right or not is a completely different discussion, but it has nothing to do with feminism. In fact this thread seems to be a thinly veiled attempt for a bunch of dudes to shit on feminism because of what one game company did on their own accord. It's kinda sad.

Edit: Article I was mentioning, for reference:
http://www.cnbc.com/2014/07/15/competitive-gaming-groups-wary-of-porn-sponsorship.html

Edit 2: And before people jump down my throat, keep in mind that I myself am not a feminist(at least not what most people would consider feminist).
Thanks for the knowledge, I'll have a read. Did any of them actually ban YO colours? Either way, More people doing it doesn't make it any better, in fact it makes it worse

And stop white knighting for feminism, they are directly responsible for recent changes and this too could likely stem from the same place, whether it does or it doesn't, being the poster child for campaigning towards stuff getting changed just because it "offends them" opens doors for criticism to get sent their way when stuff gets censored for being potentially "offensive" (even when it's not). It's the mentality they perpetrate, if you think feminists aren't happy or supporting this change you are crazy. I do wonder how much attention some of these people constantly defending feminism actually pay to the movements and culture of modern day feminism and how well they understand what it is at its core nowadays.

I'm a feminist.

The porn t shirts are fine.
I agree, I actually find it pretty hilarious.

I guarantee I know a hell of a lot more than you considering I know multiple feminists, some being my own family members. I also do not approve of third wave feminism(getting offended, demanding changes over miniscule things etc.).

Your last part pretty much means I was right in my original post. So thanks for that.

This. Thank You Based Zoidberg. #WhoopWhoopWhoopWhoopWhoop

Lol for real. The censoring had zero to do with feminism. Like, the connection doesn't make any sense, considering I do see plenty of feminists who support adult film in the first place.

Yet you know nothing about me and as such any guarantee you make is completely empty, and based off what little "credentials" you just posted I'm highly confident you are mistaken in your assumption regardless. And that's giving you the benefit by considering those things as actually being beneficial to your assumption, because in my experience being close to third wave feminists doesn't make you knowledgable to the matter in fact it often just makes you more blind to the reality of the matter. Regardless, if you are so against modern day feminism, what exactly is it that you have a problem with here? Nobody said they are against old school feminism and the fight for women's rights, I specified modern day feminism multiple times and the only issue anyone has brought up with it in this thread is exactly the things you say you dislike, e.g. Getting offended and campaigning for changes over minuscule things.

Or did you just say that to attempt to add some validity to your argument whiteknighting feminism?

I don't support third wave feminism, but I also don't support blaming it for things it had nothing to do with.

Once again, this is Capcom wanting nothing to do with the adult film industry, not pandering to feminists.

If you truly did know the schools of thought in feminism, you would know that some believe porn is empowering as it embodies sexual freedom for women. So if Capcom was really pandering to third wave feminists, they wouldn't be pandering to them all anyway.

I love how you think i'm white knighting even though I've already said I don't support third wave feminism and don't support censoring of sponsors in the adult film industry.

No, that's a good perspective and i appreciate your contribution to this thread

I just reacted a little defensively to you saying that my thread is just a thinly veiled attack on feminism because it had one offhanded purely speculative mention of feminism in there (I even admit its speculation - can still have an opinion on it however), and it was in no way the focus of my thread, which is more about Capcom shitting out on their scene and its contributors, regardless of whether it was to pander to feminism or to someone else. Which I think/speculate it was and it certainly looks that way to me even if it was a misguided attempt to do so, but thats beside the point. There loudest detractors at this point are big mouthed feminists, and whether it was for feminisms sake or not Capcom has shown that they ARE willing to give in and modify their own product to try and appeal to the people who might get "offended" by such a thing, it's not a massive leap to think that the next step is to check things associated with their events BEFORE the "omg so offensive" comments and blogposts come in over something we can all agree is really just LOOKING for something to be offended about its completely SFW, instead of them caring about their actual customers and supporting the scene. Regardless, I have no reservations in admitting its speculation, just thought I'd explain my thread a bit more because you don't seem unreasonable and I think you may have misunderstood my intention just a little

I agree I was a little too harsh, so for that i'll apologize.

Civil discussions on TYM, I never thought I'd see the day

Called self-control.
I understand the point you're making, but I was referring more to those who suffer some form of mental illness. For those that do, regulating their reaction to disagreeable stimuli can be somewhat more difficult. For 3/4 of the population if absolutely is a matter of self control, and a form of control that can be easily enforced, but for that remaining 1/4 (which is a hell of a lot of people), the impulse to respond in a vitriolic manner will override any rational reasons not to.

I unfortunately have nothing to add on to that lol but I wholeheartedly agree with you.

We have to mature at some point. Whether they put "YP" or the full name, everyone knows what it stands for. If a maker of a children's game doesn't want their company's league associated with it, so be it.
