Why do NRS games die?

NaCl man

Welcome to Akihabara
It seems to be more of an NRS scene as aposed to a mk or injustuce scene. So i think it is all the NRS players moving onto the new NRS game. Like when sfv dropped everybody moved onto it but the street fighter franchise has its own scene as does smash and tekken. You dont really see that game franchise loyalty with NRS games its more of a company loyalty.

People buy their games even if they bitch about it.
MK is fun but if you want to play competitive fighting games, go play games that are competitively supported.
Look at how KI is handled for example. Pure gold.

Would you like to play 50/50 Kombat for 4+ years
sf4 had a great run
But the god honest truth is NRS doesn't care they made money off of the game time for them to move on

comments like these really irk me cause NRS' game support has done nothing but improve with every game. 2 Kombat Packs for MKX! Thats insane, and Injustice 2 will have even more DLC. They patched MKX in october and are hinting at more and dare I even say maybe another character! Not to mention huge Pot bonuses all the way up to KiT of this year and likely beyond.

MK9 wasnt the best support which kinda sucked cause gameplay wise it was the strongest, just needed a few nerfs to the top tier. Injustice they experimented with a new type of patch system which wasnt generally well recieved but still managed to make the game playable for all in the end. MKX They supported the game for well over a year and beyond. To say they just make their money and peace out seems like a very uneducated statement

This is true, NRS patching and support format has been improving since MK9

They also admitted that MK9 was a hot mess reason why they never touched again and decided to create a new build from the ground up, which gave birth to IGAU back in the day.

Bug of tater's
Well for the first half of mkx the LSoD (loading screen of death) bug effectively dropped the population significantly on Xbox.

Now I think we could all agree that the majority of the population of our games come from the randoms that buy the game on release because of the cool trailers, then have no clue what to do besides button mash, has anyone played KI? They had a AMAZING tutorial that can teach even a brand new player how to play decently. I think if we got a good tutorial for our games we can get a lot more players to stay.

Also at the start of each game there is something that is just way to strong ( or shouldn't exist) and they take forever to do something about it.

some heroes are born, some made, some wondrous
patch frequency has absolutely NOTHING to do with the games dying out.

NRS has continually improved post game support and MKx got tons and tons of it. Sponsored events, patches, entire new "versions" of the game with better netcode, and soft "seasons" like SFV now has were the entire meta game gets completely reworked.

The blame for the drop is firmly in the players, and a lot of that blame gose to the tent pole community leaders.

The real shame is that the current Meta is not even explored. MKx is still so young and there is so much more to it that will never see in competitive. Take Tanya making a showing at Kombat Cup and Cyber-Zero being played at leet levels. The truth is that MKx has hardly had its surface scratched and we are moving on to the next game.

Yeah, NRS has gotten way better over the years. I think that's a big reason some are hesitant to criticize them.

I do think they could have made MK9 last a long time though, easily, if they patched the game a couple more times after the last one. MK9 definitely was made with more care and with thought of longevity.

Stay focused or get Caged
I think a key to keep mkx alive (aside from the possible support from nrs that will hopefully come) lies in online tournaments.

Many people here are putting the focus on offline and travels, which are good, but the hype that things like esl and kombat cup bring is undeniable, and with the new netcode they are a closer experience to offline.

About the constant balancing, I have a slight different opinion. It is no doubt that most of the things in MKX's first day were pretty dumb (6f mids, +40% combos with no effort, 2 breakers per round, etc). I think the real problem isnt the constant patching but the bad testing of the game. What I saying is that was about time do have a Beta to test netcode/balancing of the game, so that NRS doesn't give us a game in the state of MKX day 1 (were Erron Black's enhaced slide was safe, Ice Clone had no cooldown and so on). To be honest the great problems of the game were taken off in the last patch (such as double digit plus frames, double run cancels that lead to infinte staggers/blockpressure, overheads faster then 14/16 frames, armored launchers, armor breakers, etc). So MKX is almost in the version where it should be. I agree when is said that the game mostly dies because the current patched version had unbalanced things (Batgirl in Injustice, Kabal in MK9). But, call me a blind man if I'm wrong, I don't see MKXL in this situation. To be honest, since I start following tournements back in 2013, I never saw an NRS game with a better final version of the game like MKXL (the only thing that NEEDS to be adjusted in the general system for me is anti-airs). Well that's just a casual that watches tournaments opinion, so If I said the worst statement on the planet I won't mind the flaming, which will be deserved. Anyway, if MKXL will be alive after I2 this will depend on the TOs giving us space to compete and the interest of the community to keep the game that way.

Bumped for relevance.

Also, NRS has improved a lot especially on their patching in Injustice 2. The OP was made before Injustice 2’s life, just to make that clear.

A whole bunch of patches can make a game more interesting. People develop a new meta every new patch. Look at Dota2 for example. Crazy things happen every new patch but the community enjoys them more than hating them
