Who outzones kabal??

me and my friend were argueing about it and i wanted to see what the real deal is...

i think lui kang , reptile , possibly sindel / shang ?

i know none of them beat him, but zoning wise making kabal go in

Honestly I think Freddy might be the only person that can call himself a better zoner than Kabal (maybe).

However, nobody makes Kabal go in. He does what he wants, when he wants, he's Kabal.

Freddy is the only other character that is on par with Kabal in terms of zoning IMO.

kabal has to come in if you plan on beating a good reptile, liu kang, sindel, shang, freddy, kenshi, or ermac that knows what they're doing

watch any top level kabal players in mk9 for those match ups and you mainly see them get the W by rushing down with pressure up close

Reptile definitely does not. If he just IAGBs all day, then rep outzones him for free, but Rep has a hard time dealing with saws tbh. They stop him from doing his thing.


Liu Kang definitely might.
Skarlet has a really really good chance.
Smoke sort of does in the fact that Kabal can't really zone him, but of course smoke doesn't do chip.
Shang definitely can, the problem is he can nomad dash through lol. If it came down to just zoning though...
Freddy very possibly.
Sindel honestly zones really well against him.

Nobody ever thinks about how Reptile is free to saw. It keeps him in check and scares him to use any of his tools including his primary(and pretty much only) mobility tool.

Oh yeah and Kitana can do it if she has the life lead, we've seen that in tournament enough.



Also I know everyone is going to think that I'm just downplaying Reptile, but tbh the only reason why anyone thinks that Rep outzones Kabal is that force ball ducks him under IAFB, but the problem is Saw punishes him for forceball, and then Kabal can still block/jump the forceball. It also trades with acid spit in Kabal's favor (since saw does so much damn damage.)

Reptile has a better chance of getting in than a lot of others, but truly outzoning Kabal and making him come to you is a total myth.

He isn't talking about counter-zoning though, he is talking about who has better zoning tools. Kabal doesn't need to zone Smoke anyways he just needs dash since Smoke can't put anything on the screen which occupies space that Kabal really has to respect

Zoning isn't just about a projectile war (Which he pretty much wins anyway). His Nomad dash if timed right can armor through and punish just about every projectile in the game. At any given point in the match Kabal can go from Full screen forcing you to crouch to right in your face with a 50-50. How does he not control every zone on the stage?

my kabal isnt incredible but its pretty decent and i feel in that matchup u cant really outzone lui kang u have to for the most part go in on him due to low fireball having ducked under ur fireballs and fast recovery to block saw ontime and exchange with u

btw this is not about downplaying matchups or anything like that its a simple zoning question in the matchups.. i know as well as everyone else knows kabal beats everyone in the game thats not the question though it just about zoning between the two in the match. not reading eachother for ex dashes or anything like that im talkin about just straight zoning

haha yeah then in that case yes, Kabal does have to go to Smoke which consists of hitting a few buttons and he is free to pressure him and build plenty of meter to ensure he never gets reset. Great MU, good thing we have such great tools to handle him!

All you have to do against anybody who's throwing low projectiles or projectiles that duck your iagb is start mixing it up with standing gas blasts, which at 9% do some of the best damage in the game. Between that, iagbs and buzz-saws you should be in good shape.

Oh my bad. Yeah I would say Reptile and Liu Kang are on equal footing at being able to check Kabal with their zoning tools. I think a good Reptile is probably most annoying for Kabal.

i dont have trouble in any of those matchups buddy i appreciate the tips or w/e haha, but im not asking advice on like how to beat any of the chars i know how to go about any of those matchups. all im asking is if anyone in the game going zoning only war no other tools! just straight up zoning eachother fullscreen i feel there are a few ppl that outzone KABAL in that specific matchup. not overall just that match vs the kabal

Liu Kang's low fireball trades with Kabal's gas blast. Liu Kang's standing fireball is getting hit by a saw or iagbs.

Yeah it is his worst MU imo. I have written a book about it inside of the Smoke forums. It mostly comes down to not having armor, large hitbox, no move to occupy space on the screen, and Kabal being able to build a ton of meter extremely easily. If a Kabal player is not on point with their dashes though, it becomes a lot more manageable...but if they are extremely on point it is a struggle.

I mean I switched primarily to playing Cage in that MU which should really say something because I would much rather deal with the zoning than have to deal with a Kabal that can dash whenever they want to without being able to do anything about it. Later on I switched to Sonya because her projectile is OK against him and she has better ways out of his pressure.

yah i think sindel lui kang reptile shang can play the projectile game in that match better then kabal can hit for hit if that was the only part of the matchup. but my buddy was saying nobody can outzone kabal and he thinks im an idiot (i guess rofl) but i know for fact lui kang does no doubt and shang. i just wanted some backing on this

Only Freddy can zone Kabal. He just can't zone some like Smoke, Mileena, Liu Kang, Reptile freely but he does not get outzoned. Sindel no way can zone Kabal.
