Who is the best MK9 player (Ed Boon Asks)

nice try Carl

I am not Perfect Legend. I live in London England. I am a fan of PL though.

I give credit where its due.

Perfect Legend was not the best in Injustice or Injustice 2.

Whilst yes he did get into the ESL MKX finals all 3 times he was not the best or amongst the top in MKX.

I am strictly referring to MK9.

Other than Sonic seriously what other player from the NRS scene has won back to back EVOs?

Only Sonic can contest with 4 EVO wins against PL'S 3 EVOs. So I will openly admit Sonic is the best there and although I am a bigger fan of PL I will admit that Sonic is better.

However if we are talking the highest accolade for MK9. What is a better MK9 accolade than winning the major game at EVO?

EVO is the Wrestlemania of Fighting games competition.

Everybody remembers the moment of Tokido saying Fighting games are something great when he won EVO for SFV.

Everybody remembers the Tekken Master and Sonic moment at EVO.

Its where history is highlighted the MOST and it is where people have said after a win at EVO that they are 'The best'.

Just to prove I am not biased hear me out on this point. I just want to highlight my back to back point.

I consider Sonic the best at Injustice 2. I consider him the best because he won IPS Finals back to back. Nobody else did that. Dragon didn't win EVO twice. Dragon retired Injustice 2 when he was the best after winning EVO and E League. Sonic won the exact same major event which was the world championship for the game which is the point I am trying to make. Yes Rewind won EVO but Sonic won a World Championship event in IPS back to BACK. I must put emphasis on the 'World'.

He didn't have to win the other events cause the others don't matter. He won the ones that matter.

With PL it's the same thing only its for his era which is MK9.

Maybe now EVO isn't seen in the same prestige and I understand that because of how NRS is treated at EVO. However at that time winning EVO was a big deal. History is history and so whilst I am a PL fan, I just think he deserves his credit for what he did in the MK9 era and I think we can't go on like 2011 and 2012 that EVO wasn't classified as the biggest MK tournament. I feel he was the best because he won the most important tournament for the game twice.

Another point is that DJT has also won EVO and he beat PL and Reo to do it. I remember these moments more than any MLG event. Evo for MK9 was the Cream Of The Crop.

I am sure there will be a world tour for MK11 so I will agree that the biggest tournament might not be EVO for MK11. Times may of changed now for NRS games.

It doesn't mean I don't acknowledge others credentials I just think it's a little ridiculous to go on like in 2011 and 2012 that the NRS Community at the time didn't want to win EVO and that tournament wasn't the Cream of the crop and that now it doesn't count just because of how people feel about PL.

To make another point why did Mani cry when he won EVO in Killer Instinct?

Simple, he knew he would be classed as the best and it was a huge achievement. He could lose everywhere else, nobody can take that moment from him. He was the best at that time at the game.

Even Punk losing to Tokido at EVO and him breaking down was a powerful moment and it's because its the event everybody wants to win at.

I get people want to believe I am PL but if you truly read and see what I am saying then I don't think it's an unreasonable thought.

I will respect people's opinion and I like the discussion.

I definitely feel Reo was one of the best and I love listening to REO's thoughts and opinions.

I am actually cheering for REO to return in MK11 to be honest. I think it would be nice to see him climb the MK ladder again cause if anybody deserves it I think he does, as he is a true MK fan.

I am just stating what I feel is the truth. Nothing more nothing less.

There was a moment in time where 3 of these players were just dominants.

PL early on
CDjr at one point
And then it came REO, REO's reign of terror rulled for the entire 2012 where he only failed at EVO which he was eliminated by foxy, but his MLG entries were just dominant.

I still think the pinacle of the NRS scene was MLG dallas, like everyone single one of us was looking forward to it, was playing on it or watching, it had an insane US competition from the entire country, and we've seen character specialist with every single character dominate on their brackets, some of the matches were pure insanity.

Ed Boon asked on Twitter who the best MK9 player is, I nominate REO and so does Esports:
https://www.esportsearnings.com/games/211-mortal-kombat-9/top-players

They go off of earnings which I think is the best way, if the player made top spots and hit money they obviously got more money.

Eds Twitter Post:

Who do you think is the top ten players of MK9?
Based on my memory. Carl winning two evo's has to put him in top 3 automatically. Reo i think won the most majors and was the most consistent. I think those to are the clear 1 and 2. 3-10 is highly debated but people like pig, king, cd jr, dizzy, 16bit among others are in the top 10

2 EVO's is a great accomplishment, but it doesn't make you automatically the best when people like REO placed top 3 in like 30 major tournaments or something ridiculous like that when PL was not playing or not placing.
I agree 2 Evos isn't everything considering REO has that but PL was placing really high most of the time, he was the champ but I do agree REO was the Victor. But players like Forever king said it doesn't represent all of thier matches and top placements and most wasn't recorded so there isn't an actual way to log all the wins.

by titles during the main phase of relevance of mk 9: reo, cdjr, PL

both reo and cdjr had streaks where they won like every major they attended and pl won the first 2 evos.

REO. Go back and watch his Kabal. His execution was incredible.
I agree, his execution was always on point (Hitbox REO was even scarier).

I remember an old TYM thread suggesting that Hitboxes should be banned because they make execution too easy. Naturally, REO's name would be brought up (since he adopted the peripheral) but it's not like he couldn't do these things on pad, it was just a preference at the time.

This would make a good topic for a podcast; even though MK9 is long gone, it could be a throwback to the game that brought the community together and elevated many players to a higher level.

If we’re going to talk about Evo being the Super Bowl of gaming, can we please stop forgetting that REO at least made it there twice? Sure winning the Super Bowl is a far greater achievement than coming up short but it’s not like REO failed to even make the playoffs. He made it to 2nd place at Evo twice AND won far more other majors (which are called majors for a reason, they’re still major) so I have a hard time giving Carl the nod over him despite his incredible achievement.

Regardless of what so and so did at EVO or whatever the argument is, when REO was at the top of his game, there was no one better. Before people bitched about Sonic winning everything, REO was the one people were sick of seeing win everything with his god tier Kabal.

Good point. The 2007 Patriots lost the Super Bowl to the Giants but that Pats team is THE greatest team to ever take the field in the NFL.

So, my question is... Why is ed boon asking this?

Are they gonna add whoever is chosen to that big summit thing?

If that's the case, I wanna chose Pig of the Hut. lmao

Perfect Legend was the best.

Nobody did what he did in MK9.

He won EVO twice. He not only did it twice but it was the way he did it.

He basically disappeared for a good portion of 2011/2012 after he won the first time.

VSM talked mad trash about PL in 2012 and after he did lose convincingly against Mani and was babied by Curbo at MLG Columbus, he leveled up and was I believe top 3 of MLG Anaheim defeating Mani and losing to DJT. He beat Mani again winning EVO right after.

Bare in mind international players were also there at that EVO 2012 plus this was after all the people said PL weren't that good and that he was coward for not playing. PL beat Tyrant, REO, Pig, and Mani at EVO who were no doubt the best players.

Nobody but Sonic Fox in the next NRS games has done what PL did.

PL beat REO not once but twice at EVO.

He beat him in Grand Finals in 2011 and he knocked him to losers in 2012 in which REO was eliminated by F0xy. Reo got his run at EVO 2013 but REO has only got 2nd at EVO. PL has won EVO twice.

EVO is a bigger tournament than MLG, NEC, Summer jam or any other tournament if people wanna talk consistency. Nobody WON the same tournament in MK9 back to back. First NEC MK9 was Detroit and the 2nd year was REO. Nobody won MLG back to back. Between Mani, Detroit and REO this didn't happen. PL won the World Championship back to back. Keep in mind that EVO is called the World championship for a reason.

Nobody but Sonic has done what PL did at EVO.

Sonic is the greatest NRS player of all time because he has not just won tournaments but he has won the same tournaments a year later back to back to back including EVOs where he has won in NRS games 3 times plus all 3 ESLs. Sonic made sure he won EVO in MKX twice.

If you wanna talk about what Championship any of these players WOULD have wanted to win in MK9 any one of those players would of wanted to win EVO especially around that time period.

So on that note PL was the best player overall in MK9.

OH and he has the belt given to him by Boon himself.

PL was the best!
I agree with a lot what you have said. But you left out that REO defeated PL in the third MK9 EVO and stopped EVO-PL from tri-peating (tri-force and homeboy tyson were not involved).

Also if you answer the question based on the quantity metrics of Ed Boon (who won the most tournaments in quantity and made the most money then the answer has to be REO or CDJr, because PL took a long break from entering tournaments). Ed Boon is not asking about the quality of the tournaments, but the quantity.

When considering the Quality of the tournaments then I agree with you that PL is above all.
