After the MLG season it was predicted that MK9 would die but it still went strong into NEC and once VSM came back we had some decent attendance but nothing great. After NEC it seemed to die out again and not much happened in the way of training before Winter Brawl. Reo didn't even show up because he was sick and Maxter and CD jr both failed to make top 8 at a major. That was a first I think where neither of them made it. I even started playing online because basically I had no one to play with offline, even though I hate online and did get 9th at winter brawl. Partly due to practicing almost daily for the first time maybe ever.
After WB our scene seemed to be focused solely on the release of injustice and people start playing MK9 for the most part. Then injustice came out and everyone showed up to VSM for the release. Soon after though attendance dropped again. I honestly predicted a resurgence after injustice but I feel like I know why there isn't one. Let me explain...
Just from an obversataonal standpoint, Injustice does not produce passion in this community. I feel like majority of us are playing it because it's new and no one is playing Mk anymore so why play it. If you look at MK we had all kinds of podcasts, live shows, hype threads, trash talking, every week! No one as making any money doing that but it was done out of passion for the game. We pretty much have NONE of that for this game and I feel like it's because deep down we truly don't care that much about DC characters or the game enough to put extra time into it, non gameplay time. I can honestly say that I feel less inclined to go to VSM now because one I know the top players probably won't show up, and more importantly I don't have the passion for injustice, I would go more to play MK but it would just me and insuperable playing the whole time lol. Also it costs me about 60 bucks per VSM trip.
I'm not sure what it would take for VSM to thrive again...
