What's the Story With VSM?

Im not joking when i say this but can we get a "State of VSM" thread? Like what it was, where it is now and why that is? Go back in time when the whole community made it a concrete thing to be ready for VSM Thursday night streams. we miss it and like to know what lol
Phil hasn't been free to stream 3 weeks in a row so there's that. Two weeks ago there were 4 people and last Thursday was only me revolver and some kpb people :(

Well this is just my opinion and I speak for absolutely no one...

The top VSM players stop going, they used to go almost every week or so it seemed. I feel like their are multiple reasons for this. One being money. A lot of the top players don't live close and in gas, tolls, plus venue fee it can start to become an issue on peoples wallets every week. Especially if they feel like they are only going there to play themselves. So for instance IMO three of the top 5 players at VSM are brothers, so maybe in their mind they can just level up with one another or invite the other two top guys over to play. (I will address why I feel this is not a good thing later)

Another reason is top VSM players were on top for such a long and consistent time that maybe they felt they didn't need to practice as much as before with other people. I'm talking about after March 2012 when Reo won Final round and CD jr won MLG. I noticed a decline in VSM attendance after that but most people still went. Then the whole OBS thing happened and Phil quit VSM. It has not been the same since to be honest. It was a LONG period of time where we weren't getting together. I would have people over my house during that time and made some good friends because of it with Insuperable and Winter warz particularly.

This honestly sucks to read but its everything i feared

Any hopes or plans to try to change? Maybe push strongly for a bi-weekly thing?

After the MLG season it was predicted that MK9 would die but it still went strong into NEC and once VSM came back we had some decent attendance but nothing great. After NEC it seemed to die out again and not much happened in the way of training before Winter Brawl. Reo didn't even show up because he was sick and Maxter and CD jr both failed to make top 8 at a major. That was a first I think where neither of them made it. I even started playing online because basically I had no one to play with offline, even though I hate online and did get 9th at winter brawl. Partly due to practicing almost daily for the first time maybe ever.

After WB our scene seemed to be focused solely on the release of injustice and people start playing MK9 for the most part. Then injustice came out and everyone showed up to VSM for the release. Soon after though attendance dropped again. I honestly predicted a resurgence after injustice but I feel like I know why there isn't one. Let me explain...

Just from an obversataonal standpoint, Injustice does not produce passion in this community. I feel like majority of us are playing it because it's new and no one is playing Mk anymore so why play it. If you look at MK we had all kinds of podcasts, live shows, hype threads, trash talking, every week! No one as making any money doing that but it was done out of passion for the game. We pretty much have NONE of that for this game and I feel like it's because deep down we truly don't care that much about DC characters or the game enough to put extra time into it, non gameplay time. I can honestly say that I feel less inclined to go to VSM now because one I know the top players probably won't show up, and more importantly I don't have the passion for injustice, I would go more to play MK but it would just me and insuperable playing the whole time lol. Also it costs me about 60 bucks per VSM trip.

I'm not sure what it would take for VSM to thrive again...

Yeah last week was kinda ridiculous..I mean revolver spent the money/time to come out from NYC to valley stream and it was only me (I live 3 minutes away from vsm venue) and him playing

Seems a waste :(
Maxter told me he's going to start going to next level. That's also a reason for it dying now because they're playing injustice on Wednesdays now in Brooklyn

Whats the chance that all the people who want VSM to get hot again all start going to Next level?

I find it interesting that JR is the only dude that goes to that thing, but he has his capcom buddys now and doesn't even come on this site, because I think he honestly thinks he's better then everyone on here, and thinks he's better then everyone in general, dudes like that don't support the community or the games, they are just in it for selfish reasons,

sucks, I used to love watching VSM on thursdays,

I guess so, but why couldn't everyone else level up together??? I thought VSM was suppose to be the best?? or was it always just those 4 dudes?
Well to be blunt imagine this

MK9 only - Take away the following players from each scene

VSM
maxter
cd
reo
jr

EGP
tyrant
pboard
xblades
chef

Vegas
mit
djt
dab
flawedzilla

kh
cat
showtime
scar
shanxter

ATL
pig
clint
redd
smarr

GGA
bit
dizzy
wafflez
han

etc etc etc etc.......Itd hurt a lot taking away the top 4 from any and put a huge damper on that scene leveling up w those MUs and overall fundamentally

Was the three bothers, Reo and riu48. Those 5 were the best and part of the lure of traveling to vsm and paying all that money in tolls and gas was to train with them and also with them play and talk to them about strategies. They would level everyone else up. Also helped insuperable become a top player IMO as well. And helped my game out a lot when I started going.

Also cd jr is a really good guy and not a dick. I don't know all of his reasons for not going to vsm but I know he is a good dude. Also I don't blame him for not posting on tym, especially lately.

I really liked this thread until it became a VSM depression zone. Pig, that idea is really awesome and I think VSM should steal it. 9.95

Anyway, VSM started to decline once the weekly tournaments stopped happening. It went from being a hype tournament battle ground that everyone wanted to come to just to win, to just come in and play casuals for a couple hours (with most likely the same person you first sit down with cause even I'm lazy and guilty of this). Having to pay venue, travel, and make time just for a few hours of casuals is not too intriguing. That's honestly how I feel. I don't understand why VSM stopped doing tournaments, but that's what kept me interested. Tournaments always had you play different players as well and it was hype to see. Maybe the date should change from Thursday. I would always think weekdays are bad for players to come out and travel to. At least for me. It doesn't help Battle Circuit is the night before on Wednesday either. Fridays or Saturdays would be much better. Maybe this would help others come out to VSM?

But all of this is extremely off topic and a VSM member should make a thread about what it would take to bring VSM back and make it interesting again. The VSM posts should just be moved there Claude VonStroke rev0lver J360 etc.

Jr stopped coming on this website half way through MK9's life man. All he would run into is people telling him that he doesn't know what he was talking about and drama. So he decided to stop trying to help out online players and focused on us locally. CD jr is still a great help when we actually get to play, he just stays home most of the time and travels to next level.

If that was the case, I would have been there ages ago.

Take those guys away and EGP would still exist. Why? Because I give everyone a ride, always have. I found Tyrant, who told me, ”I play Online and with some friends who arent very good.”

The state of EGP? There is no more EGP. Its living off WNF, i just recently started hosting sessions again and our gatherings are great.

My point is... Take me away and its Gone...

My point is... It only takes one person...

Dont get all sad about this. Get up,, rebuild, hit people up and start over.

And for the record. The best Cyrax was only at VSM once. ;)

Come On Die Young
I've been wanting to make something like this for a while now. Phil telling us he wouldn't be able to show up for the past 3 weeks probably made some people not come but it's more than that.

NY/VSM hasn't been a cohesive scene in over a year. It's annoying when people would act like I'm playing reo and the dominicans every week in hardcore sessions to level up. I've never even played Jr's Jax and got that MU experience by playing Tyrant and online people. I worked my way up in MK by practicing against who people see as mid-level players.

I'm not saying they don't have their reasons why they don't show up. I'm not acting like Maxter or Jr or someone is a dick or betrayed their team. When I get to play REO for example he's one of the most helpful people in terms of pointing out what I need to work on. I just wish people were more conscious that our scene is pretty ass right now and it used to be amazing. I wish we could do something like what Krayzie is doing with EGP but when a lot of our players are split between LI, NJ, Queens, and the Bronx it's hard to get people together.

I'll probably go to Next Level this week or something though. I was going to go last week but it wasn't on their calendar on their site so I didn't know if it was happening each week.
