What is your "I want it but it'll never happen" Mortal Kombat game?

Sugarwatermixlegit

Bruce Campbell 4 MK!!!
An open world RPG kinda game focused around the Kombat Kids, you pick one of the four in the beginning and go through the game as them

Main story (duh), side quests, a huge level up system, loot, romance options, etc etc

Why them specifically? I just think they get way too much hate because NRS insists on putting the parents in the same game for some reason which doesn’t let them really be their own

MK1 HD. With a soundtrack like this:

I just want to feel that pure Hong Kong cinema 'A Chinese Ghost Story-meets-Big Trouble In Little China-meets-Enter the Dragon' mysticism again.

When I was 10 in 1992, Mortal Kombat felt like this mystical franchise from the far east full of mystery and terror, like I myself was staring into the mythological abyss of Asian demons. By 1995 and MK3 and the movie came out, I was all like "ok, so it's very American and very metal" which is absolutely fine, and I like those things, but just seemed to take away something of the mysterious MK magic from the early days that has never ever been repaired for me.

My favourite MK1 stages were Palace Gates and Warrior Shrine, and for me it summed up how far MK had strayed from its original feeling by the time of MK Trilogy, when neither of those stages were in it. MK9 however, with Shang Tsung's Gardens... that was one of those "omg, that's 10 year old me playing MK1 again" moments. Gorgeous stage, incredible soundtrack. But I'm rambling now...

Or Mortal Kombat Conquest the game. It's borderline softcore porn I know, but I want to play as Vorpax, Master Cho, oil demon Noob, Taja and Siro.

A single player game where we get to explore outworld to a modern vision would be good, i think Skarlet would be nice to expand on lore on this one, adding up current gen characters.

A new MK trilogy redesign, for new consoles and all the soundtracks from MK1, MK2 and MK3 (including the ported versions) and keep adding post UMK3 characters in a 2D format like MK4, MK 3D era, MK9, MKX, and beyond as DLC, mugen already does this but it does it poorly with no netcode support, but i would definitely buy it and play it for the next 10 years or so.

Very well said, and that remix is fantastic and got my own nostalgia vibes going. The mystical feel continued into Mortal Kombat II perfectly, but Mortal Kombat 3 was definitely a major (and intentional) tone change.

What's the point of a random Krypt?
I would love a proper Motor Kombat, with each character having several different unique powers instead of just one, and better tracks and controls. It was so silly but so fun.

My "I want it but it'll never happen" would be an MK with a mode where people could try proposed/experimental patch changes out, so that they could see that the effects of the changes they want are often not the expected ones.

Imo it would be hugely informative about how hard it is to actually balance games, and it could lead to discovering some unexpectedly cool things as well.

I would love a single player Mortal Kombat RPG similar to Jade Empire. I’ve wanted this since like 2006 as Jade Empire is basically already a rip-off of Mortal Kombat Konquest modes & Shaolin Monks (this going to piss so many people off but it’s true so I’m saying it anyway) but done so much better.

Like an MK11: Sandbox Edition?

Mortal Kombat, but now everyone drives a car each with their own special moves/abilities, and it's a battle royal.

Extremely unlikely: Isometric Diablo styled game.

Extra Extremely Super Duper unlikely: Take out fatalities and the majority of the other gore. It's a crutch.

Yeah. Even though users can't do it themselves, in Overwatch they have an Experimental mode where they try out changes from community suggestions, and also things the company is thinking about but isn't sure if they'd work. It's pretty cool and a gives a way to see how certain changes play out with more than just the devs.

Sometimes they have pretty drastic meta shifts, just for kicks, but it's also interesting to see how those "in theory" reworks actually affect the game.

some heroes are born, some made, some wondrous
I'd like Motaro to be a fully playable character, on the roster from day 1 and be awesome and it work.

I think the last time MK was dark and mysterious was around the time of MK4. The aesthetics in that game are still a favorite of mine.
Aesthetic-wise, yeah. Though personally, I never got into the graphics of that game. I found them quite a turn-off, personally.

Absolutely, I would love this. So many of the characters have parallel characters in Mortal Kombat.

Interestingly though, Mortal Kombat and Konquest Mode was not an influence on Jade Empire. They modeled the style after Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic but made it more action-oriented, and story/lore-wise, it was based off a style of Chinese novel from long ago. I can't recall it's name, but they discussed it in the documentary that came with the game's Collector's Edition (which I own). Many of the character arch-types between Jade Empire and Mortal Kombat are present, however.

I’m aware (I have the collector’s edition the Prima Guide) but the premise of Deception & Jade Empire are remarkably similar & the main twist are the same.

The Last Spirit Monk was deceived by Sun Li after they were tasked to find all the parts of the Spirit Monk amulet while Shujinko spent decades (mostly in prison) serving Damashi in collecting the Komidogu until he was deceived by Onaga.

Both were deceived for decades, mind you Shujinko is a gullible idiot while The Last Spirit Monk was deceived by someone who was basically their adopted father.

The comparisons don’t end there too.

I like Jade Empire more than both, c’mon Nathan Fillion as the first bad guy? Awesome.

I would love to play a Mortal Kombat game that...

  • receives support for far longer than two years and whose developers are willing to communicate their ideas to the community.
  • incorporates a complex meta and characters that cannot be learned and exploited in the span of one month.
  • eliminates shallow fighting game mechanics such as fatal blows, auto-generated meter, and breakways and replaces them with thoughtful fighting game features and mechanics.
  • implements an okizeme system in which the successful player in the neutral game is rewarded for the knockdown.
  • returns to traditional character archetypes and removes all traces of the variation system.
  • intends to differentiate rather than universalize characters.
  • excludes "simpleton" character designs such as Deadshot and Sheeva that eventually end up being normalized to worthlessness.
  • includes interesting mini games such as Chess Kombat and Motor Kombat, which are certainly appreciated, even for the competitive fan base.
Unfortunately, wishful thinking, indeed, particularly after Mortal Kombat 11.

i always wanted them to bring the real-looking characters as they did with the older games but just up to date with better graphics. what made Mortal kombat unique is because you were able to use real characters. just bring the realism back in the fighting game and ill be happy

While not exactly the same, I was honestly really surprised that they never released skins with the old MK2 and 3 actors, like Kerry Hoskings MK3 Sonya, and Tony Markez MK2 Lao. I mean, the movie skins were cool, but I would have preferred to have these ones all the way.

Ooh here's one... an MK4 HD remaster would be divine! To have that game not look like the graphical equivalent of weeping septic leg ulcer for the first time in its entire life could go a long way to giving it some greater love from the fanbase.

And just because I mentioned MK1 HD and MK4 HD, please don't get me wrong, I'd obviously love an open-world amazing adventure game or RPG in this universe, as many others have described. But I keep hoping that's a thing that might actually happen

Whilst I have zero faith in an MK1 or MK4 HD remaster a this point.

It is better this way
A Shadow of Mordor / Shadow of War style open world action game, with different skill trees, action, stealth, etc. Not every character would be well suited for it, they would need powers that have a wide variety of powers for a full game on them. Scorpion would be perfect.
