What's new

what happens after you become adept with EVERY character?

cause when i do play i've at times had better ratios than prestiged players, and i'm garbage at that game.

The point I'm trying to make is that I have yet to see someone that is great with every character, not an "expert/specialist" even, but just plain great. That is of the xbl community. I'm assuming their are people who are, but who on live is great with every character?

With cod anyone can prestige if they play the game enough. Not true with mk, some players just may not be capable of being great with all the characters. Also, it would take (shot in the dark here) 100 times as much time playing umk3 to be great with every character than it would to prestige on cod once or twice.

There's prolly a half million people, if not more, who have prestiged on cod4. Get my point?

i guranteed i can beat you in a series with every character.

Would you consider yourself that?
Certainly, but I would say I achieved that only in the last few years when I forced myself to learn a few characters I never fully explored myself. At this point, I'll random vs anyone pretty much after a few matches. In that situation, I am very confident that I have a good chance to win no matter who I pick. That usually gets me kicked from games though. Online sometimes I random if it's not playable just to take the edge off. If there's lag and people want to see me use Reptile, they aren't going to get a show, so I random and try my best with whoever. I of course have serious characters, or "main" characters, but in general, I don't think there are many people who can use even half the characters let alone main with 1/4 of them. It takes time. You can't pick up a game for a year and learn some cheap tactics and all the biggest combos and then expect to retain that ability when jumping character to character. There are only a few players on Live who have the potential that I've seen to be affective with everyone in the time the game has been available for 360. It does get boring playing people who are just gunning to beat me with say, H Smoke or Kabal when I am randoming but hey, whatever. Play however they like.

Well I would ask you if I was one of those players but honestly, you took me off your FL far too soon. I've been evolving contantly since we last played, and I remembered the one thing you said I should improve is rubjab escapes and I took your advice and I definately consider myself a better player now. I would love to play you again, all random select.

I just don't think the amount of time you play matters, at least not a big issue. I played this game for a year and only got average. I then started playing great players and got alot better in a very short amount of time, compared to the pace I was going. Yes, only with two characters, but it still happend. Adept with every character would take me a long time though. And I'm still not beastly with the 2 ones I am good with, but I feel I can win more than I lose with Ermac.

I will beat you with csub first to ten but all you will do is pick kabal ( the only character you are comfortable with against me ). If i really wanted to do reptiles juggles i can, just not the inf. I have better tactics with him than actual players who's mains is reptile.

Did she delete you too Tim? I only go on like once every couple weeks so I really don't even notice if someone is deleted. I don't actually get to go through my friends list.

So Phoenix, you said that you don't really think the amount of time you play matters, but then you said it would take a long time for you to get good with every character. I think you are misunderstanding me. Not only did I play UMK3, but I played a lot MK3 before UMK3 came out, and I also played MKII and MK1.

Starting with MK1, with only a fraction of the characters, moves, tactics, juggles, properties and overall "game" to learn, compared to UMK3 is significant. You then learn the tweaks moving to MKII but having played MK1 for a year or so, it's like you know half or part of MKII upon release. Then you you master the new concepts for the old characters, new collisions, new game properties, and then then new characters, unless you want to jump into the new characters and learn the other way instead.

As the games come out, and the gameplay developes, it might have been easier for the long time MK players to pick up on the newer games, as in the 2D games as they came out. With a game like UMK3, for anyone who never played MK before that, it's probably going to take them considerably longer if they intentionally try to learn every character.

I find people who do this, tend to lose their touch with other characters. It's almost like a sacrifice. When you play for so long, over so much time, it gets to the point where it's like riding a bike. When you learn all the male ninjas, that's one thing, but when you learn all the other characters in the game, know all their possibilities and potentials at any given point, what they need to do in specific match ups, what is an isn't available to them, and be successful with them, it'll probably be a long time from now. If you've been playing a year or so and somewhat mastered 2 characters, then you have another 10 years or so to go at that rate. It's not like that for everyone, but not everyone is a prodigy for fighting games.

That's what I said.

You prolly will beat me. I'm not even comfortable with kabal against you. I don't even know what you're getting at.
