The Legendary Pack does not have anywhere close to 2000 items, so I applied for a refund and received confirmation that my request was approved.

If anyone wants to apply for a refund, be sure to mention that it's false advertisement. I hope Sony removes the Legendary Pack from the PSN Store to teach Sega a lesson.
What's the count then? From what I could tell, you have zero items without the pack because they don't even let you into customization. Then they probably count every item and color of that item. I could see it adding up to about 2000 from what I was seeing last night but really wouldn't want to try counting. If you have the count, what does "not anywhere close" mean? 1000? 800? How are you counting? White glasses and Black glasses and Red glasses = 1 or 3?

You'd think it wouldn't actually be that hard to get to 2,000 if consider different color = different item. 17 characters x Y items x Z colors, assuming each item comes in all the colors. If you work out the math you'd need about 14-15 items per character, with about 7-8 different colors per item.

Don't mind me, i'm just having fun

Also also, Shun Di is what Drunken Master Bo'Rai Cho should have been
This brings back nightmares....

9/10 of my online fights were decent to very good, had like only few bad oversea (im in cetral EU) connections. It's no the best netcode, not rollback but it works OK. Your mileage will vary depending on connection distance, routing etc...
I think we have had a few fights on SFV, we should try this sometime.

The way directional inputs are read by the game should've been adjusted for pad players. On d-pad it's hard to consistently get a perfect back-forward or diagonal input, which is why, for example, most fighting games on console allow a back-forward input to include an up input (as long as back-up-forward isn't its own command), and a forward-diagonal input doesn't require frame-perfect synchronicity of forward+down. God forbid your character has a fwd hadouken command, that will come out half the time instead. Try it on joystick and you'll notice both of these input types are far more consistent. It sucks when you have a character like Vanessa that really needs her back-forward kick.

Edit: back-forward isn’t as bad as I thought, you have to hop your thumb over the dpad’s center. Diagonal inputs are definitely bad though.

That Don't Impress Me Much
@MuMuGuy You seem to be taking this Virtua Fighter game pretty personally. I'm just not sure I understand what the big deal is? Like, it's just $10 and they literally say "around 2,000 custom types". Maybe they're adding more later (again, small staff, small resources, tight deadline), maybe they're not. But either way why is having exactly 2,000 items, most of which you'll likely never use anyway, such a big deal?

You just seem to be taking any excuse possible to rage against the game. Seems odd.
I can't speak for this person but sometimes even if stuff is remastered it can disappoint you. Perhaps that is it. Or maybe people think they will be secretly blown away. It's kind of like in MKX when Rain, Sindel, Smoke, Kabal had all of these awesome scenes in story mode but yet we get Bo Rai Cho as DLC. and Jade was totally not in it at all, yet in MK11 she was full on revenant, worshipped shinnok, gave Kotal Kahn more depth as a character. but yeah. that is a whole dif conversation. but free is free so download it I guess while you can. once ps+ member you can always redownload. I have done this on many games b4.

I totally get that. And I get that there's some frustration in that other than a remaster that can now be played on PS4, it's not like VF5US is bringing anything new to the table. It's a shame they didn't go with Rollback netcode, and it'd be nice if looked at doing some light balance updates or tried to add a few new things. Plenty of valid criticisms to make. Complaining about the price, or the price/quantity of the DLC just comes off as petty to me though.

A game that is only free of charge for a temporary amount of time and only to PS Plus subscribers isn’t truly free of charge. The game’s netplay is awful because it has neither a WiFi nor region filter/indicator and it has paper airplane netcode.

So yes, I will complain, as is my right since the game has DLC that has a sticker price greater than zero and I’m a consumer.
No wonder you're such a stickler for netcode, you must be absolutely no fun in person.

The netcode for this game is fine and for those who say its worse than what final showdown had don't know what they're talking about. (not saying rollback wouldn't have been a better option)
Seems they've had a very limited time to remaster the game and couldn't remake all of the customization items final showdown had so hopefully they continue and update the game over time. I know they have some bugs that need fixing like the disconnecting issues from the server and the spectate broadcast freezing up within the lobby mode. They do need to add an invite feature for lobby mode and it would nice to view match replays from last played matches in record list.
The $10 price tag for the dlc isn't bad for the amount of content you receive. Fs version customization cost about $95 if you bought each characters item separately and that's if you didn't buy the 2 bundles which were $15 each for selected characters each bundle.
People will always find something to complain about a game even if they like it. Every game in the world could be improved some kind of way.

At this point I'm just happy that VF5 is available on PS4, can at least be played in some kind of form online, and has gotten some decent exposure. I'm not sure it's ever going to be more than a niche game outside of Japan, but it's fun seeing people who've never seen or played the game before give it a try and post things like "hey, this game is actually pretty cool" on twitter. I think VF has a lot of good ideas, and maybe NRS even pays attention and incorporates some of those ideas or concepts into their next game, whatever it ends up being.

"Feel the wrath of Shao Kahn"
I play fighting games online since T5DR (one of the first) and I think I have some expertise when it comes to online play experience and knowledge.
For me, netcode is THE most important part for a competitive game and especially in the case of VFUS, this game does not offer offline content.

Sorry but MKX did after almost one year a rollback netcode and this made the game awesome to play online. They didn't need to do it, they could have waited for Injustice 2 but they did ... I will always remember such nice customer moves. (FUCK greedy business models! Especially with big lies! "It runs great on ps4" hahaha, get fucked by Sony! Your reputation will suffer big times on those asshole moves! ...)

So to get back to VF, I really don't understand the "no time" argue, this game was not on anyone's radar and they just announced it out of nowhere. VFFS is so old, it wouldn't have mattered if the game had been released 5 months later because no one knew anyways.

And to make the "complaining" group even bigger, they didn't add a ping nor a Wi-Fi indicator in 2021. No, that is not acceptable anymore, no matter how big your fan-glasses are.

I played 200 online matches in VFUS and the netcode is ok but dated and not state of technology.
I keep putting my time into MK11 and Tekken7. (lately only MK11 actually)
And I like the VF franchise but so many in the FG community think complaining=hater. THAT IS SO EXTREME STUPID! I always see "complaining" as free feedback ... hear it or ignore it BUT don't try to shut "our" mouth, won't work! (This "free" argue is also big times lacking, we live in a time, where f2p is common and Sony will pay Sega with the ps+ money, in fact they paid them for exclusive too)

Imagine all the popular competitive online games had shitty netplay. NO MATTER how good the content would be, it would DIE! (Lol,R6S,CS,Dota,Fortnite,CoD etc.)

I am at least very happy that Maximilian keeps real and also says people should not stop talking about the netcode/rollback. He is not crazy lost in his FAN VISION!

Netcode is the heart of any competitive fighting game, period.
Developers not investing all the time on good netcode, just want the fast money but they won't create a future playerbase. But this is the key for a competitive model.

ps: The matchmaking in VF is in its current state, also terrible.
---
Extra note, I am a huge Tekken fan but when they released Tekken7 on ps4, it had shitty netplay and I didn't hided it, only because I love the franchise. (playing it now on PC after many netcode updates is great tho - I DECLINE you all @Wi-Fi-Warriors!) You think they would have tuned the netcode if no one would have "complained"? Don't be stupid, they wouldn't.

The netcode and matchmaking make it seem like this will be a Discord game. Which is fine, it already was. The netcode is turning me off from trying certain characters who rely heavily on hitconfirms like Taka, who I was very excited to play.

This is my first time playing VF and it's not intuitive to me yet but it seems like a lot of fun. Plus El Blaze is the first pro wrestler I've ever played in a fighting game that actually felt like a pro wrestler. HOT DOG

I feel like one of the big things for me is not crouching all the time. Most of the time in VF it seems like it's better to stand block than crouch block, where as for a lot of 2D games or MK games the default is almost always to block low and react to overhead.

The netcode really isn't fine. We might be able to offer it some understanding given the scope of things, but it's quality is coming off as wildly situational.

I'm sure they were neck deep into committing to this as a product before Covid made online non optional. Rethinking the online plan probably wasn't a viable thing. It's fine to offer that sympathy, but too many people aren't able play comfortably to not be honest about what it is and gloss over its weaknesses with "it's fine"

Mustard quitting the game and stream early a couple days ago was a pretty good example and point of view on the particular frustration some people are having with it. That's not everyone, because it does sound like some people are having good matches, but because of how it works, one person's experience doesn't apply at all to another's. I can't say "it works great" and have that mean anything to the whole of the player base

It's unfortunate that its turning out the way it is. It really sucks that the game is more or less region locked.

The netcode method they did choose is very interesting and if it functions in tandem with rollback this could be the wave. I love and recognize the superiority of rollback but let's not pretend rollback is perfect on its own. Anyone remember Chris T reacting to a couple frames of hit animation and losing the round because of it?

I really hope this leads to VF6 but I'm also concerned they'll just try and make it play exactly like Tekken

That was a weird thing when I picked up Tekken. For me it's that I'm minus on hit a lot of the time

I've played over 250 matches so far and i can say that less than 15 matches were shit connection wise.
I've had zero issues finishing my combos because of the lag.

I'm starting to think y'all be playing fighting games on wifi and complain about not having rollback like it'll improve the connection knowing wifi isn't stable lol it doesn't matter how close you are to your router it will always fluctuate and never be more stable as using a ethernet wire. (not saying your isp cant have issues and you have zero control over weather that may slow the connection between you and your isp)
Also people have the tendency to think that the area that you live doesn't have any effect on your connection.
If you're constantly having bad connections even when wired then you need to increase your internet speed or move to a better area or get a better isp.

The entire point is by using relay servers for matchmaking, your personal experience literally does not apply to anyone else; just you. You cannot look at how well it works for you and assume it works the same way for other people.

That is what you are doing in this post. For this game, that doesn't work.

I used myself as an example. I explained how rollback won't make your matches any better while using wifi it'll never be stable as using an ethernet wire. I assumed y'all played on wifi based on the amount of people who actually do on mk11 and also gave suggestions in that post.
Y'all can keep complaining about it not having rollback i'm sure it won't change for this game.
Ask for it if they make vf6.

This is the classic answer for VF having "good" netcode.
The secret you are searching for, is called input buffer, VF has the biggest input buffer out of all fighting games with 10frames. Dropping combos is like impossible.
But reacting to stuff, is where you will notice but only with experience.
(like whiff punish, hitfonfirm, movement)

I have never used Wi-Fi in my entire life! It's ok for internet surfing tho
But gaming + Wi-Fi = sin

No one said here, "perfect" netcode will make Wi-Fi playable ...

There is definitely some problems with the online especially with one sided lag (I cannot play one of my friends because of this) or delay but you would expect most people on here or amongst friends who are pretty serious about fighting games in general to be wired.

There is also the problem with this game using relay servers. If you live close to one then you are definitely going to experience less delay. Some countries are screwed especially if the rumors are true about it being google servers.

DixieFlatline78

Having a wired connection doesn't help if the other person is on WiFi. It can still increase the input delay the game applies and make the game feel sluggish.
