The Official MKXL Complain/Rant Thread

Not at all. There is a type of elitism among the FGC about torny players. If you do not play in comps, and go to events your opinions do not count.. your less of a fan. In some ways this is true. Hearing someone, even a good player online argue with a lab monster like Tom Brady can seam a little ridiculous to some.

Still, here is the rub. The FGC community that gose to comps and everything is a TINY fraction of the game company's customers. While the torny scene may drive much of the game content, it is the casual players that feed the programers and put Boon's kids though collage. It is far more important business wise to please casuals than torny players. So in another way to look at it is that casual opinions are far more important than the elitist few.

The real truth is somewhere in between. Both opinions are important. Yet I think everyone can agree that we want skullgirls, capcom, KI levels of online play. I do not think even the most militant MK Fanboy can possibly defend the netcode. Is it "playable"?... yes.. Is it acceptable?... no.

The best things out MKX and other fighting games is competition and lab time. Even though others might find tech, you never get the "I'm sure of it" feeling until you try it yourself in the lab. The competition - you know all tech and info but it won't account for shit if you can't execute against an opponent.

You're completely right and make valid points. It is elitism but in competition, I feel like it belongs.

I can't do the straight forward characters. I like characters with an extra layer of depth than just "nuetral game until something sticks, smash with combo". GM Sub Zero, Dualist Liu Kang, Master of Storms Raiden, Ronin Takeda, Blood God Kotal, Cutthroat Kano, Ethereal Mileena, etc
And my new main = Hat Trick Lao

With the exception of Grandmaster, a lot of these might initially seem like weaker variations, but nearly all of them bring something unique to the table to make up for it, it's much more interesting way to play the game IMO.

not least of which, you get big style points for using these characters, especially since they are generally so flashy :p find one of these characters Bird Lao, and discover how to play them, there's a lot of untread ground, write yourself a guide of optimal uses for their unique tools, hell maybe even share it, revitalise your love for the game, avoid the vanilla characters IMO

It does, and I don't even play that much. Sometimes it feels like a high skill low reward kind of game. Like Starcraft. Doing the same thing, over and over, adapting to your enemy and losing a lot more than I wish I did
Super similar game to Starcraft IMO. But I find both very rewarding !

this game is so much about pressure pressure pressure. Run Run and 50/50 all day long...
Remove block button and run option in the next MK title... they should make MK more strategy based instead of run run 50/50
for me MK9 was much more fun than this..but that's just me...

The game just isn't hype. Maybe it's my character. Shazam and Harley were the reasons why I played Injustice. Characters make or break a fighting game. If you don't identify with or enjoy playing any of the characters, you're gonna have a bad time.
I agree with this entirely. Grappler/brawlers took a HUGE step back from Grundy and Bane to this smorgasbord of dogshit MKX has to offer, and that's why I'm kinda meh on this game too. Really hoping Tremor does it for me or there's a season 2 worth the wait.

I agree with this... I think the root of all evil has been the run button.

gotta take it to make it
I dunno, I just started to actually play online and its been fun. Having to adjust all my execution and learn a completely new style has been awesome.
Oh and for some reason I'm obsessed with KotH. Don't even play anything else online when I actually do play it. It's so damn fun.

This notion that everyone can go to tourneys is so fucking America cantered and wrong. I live in Sweden and I've been studying full time and working part time. I had to save up to even afford the game. Now please tell me which tournaments I can attend that are remotely close? And how I am supposed to afford those? Maybe I am doing something wrong. Look I'd love to play offline tournaments so please tell me how to change this situation. Thanks.

start your own scene? Maybe put up some adds in the paper.. rent a hall.. speak to a cafe owner or something... . .

Hey scrubs, try playing at the highest level. That should do the trick. There is no flowchart unless you're whoring around with so many characters you only pick up a vague understanding of the character. Your mommy and daddy bringing you into this world was a lot more flowchart than mkx sz. Remember that.

Basically, what he said.

It's a work in progress but seriously very few swedes play fighting games since we don't have a history of arcades etc

I think something as small as increasing how effective anti-airs are would change this game greatly. I remember playing Jax in MK9 and HOPING someone would jump at me so I could standing 1 them out of the air into a combo. It's honestly the thing I miss most about MK9.

I also feel that the variation system, while very innovative and ambitious, only served to water down each version of the character instead of having one really robust version.

I really do love this game, but I do agree that it needs some sort of change soon before it fades away too soon. I'd suggest that OP stop playing for 9 hours at a time, though. That's longer than a full time shift at work.

lol maybe so, I only like top tiers. I'm a tier whore can't help it.

Cassie seems really fun, so who else would you say is really fun? Kano? Kotal, Reptile, Mileena, Ferra or Bug bitch?
Just picked up bone shaper shinnok 2 days ago! He is legit! I main ermac, and secondary mileena! I never get bored. Even with long sets! Switch up between ranked and player matches. Have a mic on and communicate with ppl! The game isn't boring! I've have only owned MK9, Injustice, and now MKX! I love these games by NRS! Practice a couple hours one days... then get online the next couple. Breaks are sometimes needed haha.

It does, which is why I haven't played as much since getting all of my achievements. I used to play like 3 hours a day minimum to get them because I'm a trophy whore. I've also started picking up new characters to keep things fresh. Feel free to stop by the Cassie forums to learn some things and chat with us .

I can not go back. MK9 feels like it is moving in slow motion and feels really floaty. MKx has improved so much that going back feels like such a step backwards. I just can't handle it.

Hey you now have f0xy :)

I loved mk9, didn't linke inj, and I am pretty happy with mkx. There is literally not a single week without discovering something new in this game; I could spend days in the lab. If you feel bored maybe try some of the less representated chars or variations, there is still much to explore.

Same feeling here.

I could play MK9 all night after work, every day of the week and then all day on the weekends. With MKX, I'm like... play 2 hours... ok, bored. Then I go play ESO or some other random game.

I think it's multiple factors:

1. The cast selection... it's leaving out amazing characters like Shang Tsung, Smoke, Noob, and the Cyborgs.

2. The overall safeness of the game (something I alluded to in another thread). Oh, you want to throw out this really risky move for an insane combo/reset? Just do an option select or a specific move in conjunction with it and now you're safe. So even if you're wrong on your read (aka you thing they will block low and they don't), you don't get blown up for it. Nothing more annoying than blocking correctly and getting nothing for it.

3. Instant offense. The game is nothing but pressure, pressure, pressure. In your face action all the time. Not a huge fan of that type of stuff. Been zoning with kitana lately and I'm having a little more fun.

Better than Injustice, but doesn't hold a candle to MK9, imo.
