Video/Tutorial The Kurtis Stryker Guide to Riot Control & Police Brutality

PoliceBrutality

Let's go green!!!!
Sadly for me I just can't play any other character beside Stryker. I do have kenshi as my secondary but I have yet to spend a full day training with him. I start a few rounds with kenshi and lost two of them then I go right back to my cop lol. Doesn't matter if the matchup is 10 times worst (cough* reptile cough). Stryker has way too many odds against him. The biggest IMHO being the ridiculous hit boxes of the other chars. I honestly think that it's the biggest handicap of the game (well at least for the way I envision I should be playing Stryker). Any good reads whether it be gun cancel, standing 1 AA, or his most valuable tool standing 4, they all get squandered by BS.

Anywho, I agree with you guys. I don't think any ground breaking stuff will be discovered for Stryker. I'm guessing we will se some spark again in this forum when Somberness decides to do the frame data for Stryker. One thing I always notice, most players just don't respect or see Stryker as a threat. Go on most of the MU discussion threads you will never see someone mention Stryker as being a pain in their ass :-(

He sucks more than Jade apparently. Might pick him up. Though I ran out of fucks to give about this shitpile game long ago.
I'll never understand why there have to be "tiers" and why they can't just strive to make them equal. I mean, people who designed a whole game can't possibly be so fucking stupid as to not see the "tier" problem.
I'll find a logical reason why some chars have to be weak on a mandatory basis in every fighting game.
Until then, though...

Fuck'em up, Strykers. You've got my sympathy.

Play who you love, there's no shame in enjoying your character, if you're not having fun what's the point.

If Stryker had some more strings that hit crouching like back 1,2,2 (the entire string should hit on crouch, not just the last 2 hits) that would help immensely. The only incentive people have to ever block high against Stryker is for his overhead, which is quite slow anyway. Everything else he does can be blocked low and poked rather easily. People with small hitboxes are especially problematic and most of them have good low pokes too, so it's hard to go on the offensive. As you said, it feels like a lot of his stuff gets squandered by BS.

I really am excited for the frame data, so far I've been guessing which strings are minus or advantage on hit. I'd like to know if Stryker has any good neutral strings that we could put to use, I picture 1,2 being neutral on block, but without the data it's just pointless conjecture.

That would really invigorate this forum and we could get some more fluid stuff going I'd wager (no pressure though, just saying lol).

Reptile is annoying, the grenade speed and recovery buffs helped as well as armored roll toss( at least NRS cares lol).

We have to make them respect our character at this point and if they don't respect Stryker, that will leave them more vulnerable to our shenanigans.

I love you, also you'll like Stryker, he reminds me of Jade, very footsie oreinted it seems, a counter-zoning, reactionary character. They also have quite a few similar strings, so learning his combos should be much easier than usual. For example, back 3, 2 is the same for both characters and 2,3, forward 2 is similar to Stryker's 2,3,2.

If you do decide to try him, I'd like to hear your impressions.

I'd adore a fighting game to have everyone be as close to equal as possible, but it seems problematic in the current set up for MK9, though I think with time NRS will improve on the game balance. It just seems logically obvious to me, even as a casual observer when the game came out that Kung Lao and Cage had amazing tools, I knew nothing of game balance and knew this...even scrubby players know this (it's why online is flooded with Kung Lao, Raiden, Cage, Smoke etc.), while Baraka, Jade, Stryker and others are rare sights.

So after playing against strong players at PowerUp I have a few concerns about Stryker. While his damage and positioning is solid I feel like his zoning game kind of suffers against the top tier and his up close stuff isn't really fantastic for creating openings.

Things I noticed, gunshot is a great tool, but against the top tier teleport set it's very very risky, you're risking 7% damage and some spacing against getting combo'd for 41% or more. You can bait them with fake gunshots, but that can get predictable and since your punish is only 25% it's kind of still in their favor to risk it. Your anti-zoning close the gap tool is a lot riskier, since roll beats a lot of projectiles but gets scopped up into 50% damage by stuff like Ermac's telekinesis/Smoke's Teleport/Kabal Spin and doesn't lead to a combo. Worse even when your gunshot or grenades hit you get at best 7-10% damage and when the higher tier characters hit with their zoning tools they get serious combos.

Anti-air standing :bk is good, but it's also situational. It doesn't beat close in jumps or crossups, and it's beaten by kicks at midrange, and with Kung Lao/teleports being able to combo off kicks, that's kind of bad. Your anti-air options for close in jumps are pretty limited, you can sometimes do standing 1,2 or a late uppercut, but those are it, and both seemed to get beaten sometimes. Otherwise you're blocking the jump in and eating the mix up. Compared to stuff like Ermac telekinesis/Sub-zero Ice Clone/Smoke Ex-Shake it's really sub par.

Up close your tools are pretty risky, Stryker doesn't seem to have a GTFO/reversal like some other characters. None of his normals are great for interrupting fast string spamming. You kinda have to guess and either jump out, sweep/uppercut, or make space with low :fp. You can do Ex-Sweep as a reversal, but it's not safe if they're poking with two hit strings. Roll is also beaten by a lot of stuff. Worse while the standing :bk staggers, it isn't safe to follow with a jumpin, you can gunshot/fake gunshot dash, but the spacing is tricky. It seems like his only attack that gives you a jumpin/bnb opportunity is standing :fk, but it's so slow and it doesn't seem to have great priority. I'm going to look into what you can do with his 1,2 two string, since it seems to have some sort of frame advantage, but I wish Stryker got more damage off specials/hit confirms, cause while his BnB to reset is good, just landing his BnB seems like an uphill battle.

If anyone has some answers for this stuff please let me know. The lack of record in training mode is really unexcused because testing this stuff with very limited local comp is holding my game back a lot. :(
Gunshot opens up 23+ midscreen for me combo wise. Jump in punch Air: You have one of the best uppercuts in the game and it’s great for cross up jump-in punch defense. Anything but a cross up should be anti-aired with standing 4. For cross up jump in punch attacks, you D+1 as it will put the opponent into a juggle state which does grant a combo as well. Strykers mid screen game is still very much new but his midscreen combo potential is pretty gross. 1,2, cancel into gunshot is pretty damn safe anywhere. 1,2 baton as well. Also yeah you def need people too test tech and too practice reactionary tech one needs a human opponent.

edit: Lol Dookie like when you had your girl help you in practice mode, thats porn for esports.
edit2: Also standing 4 is basically a meat grinder in the corner its super cheap I can get 4 in a row if I space from dead kissing.

This would be amazing^ every character forum should do this. You could easily C/P each thread into one main thread and set each one as an individual spoiler with a title and credit given to the original thread maker.

i don't know what to do with my stryker : (

its way to damn good to give up but he just doesn't fit well with my other characters. As far as this forum goes i feel like i've already posted most of what i can explain in text and Vulcan has laid down all the anti wake-up tech as well as MU info

I really don't think there is any new way to play stryker or groundbreaking tech that is left to be found, even if there was it wouldn't make this character move outside mid tier. I am lost right now, i feel that stryker is by far my strongest character but he is just too damn hard to win with vs great players and he has a few too many counter picks

instead of dropping him completely i'm going to start using him as a utility/mix-up character in Tournament play. Hopefully i'll get some matches recorded or streamed with him so i can help all you guys out. Other than that there's not much i can do, i guess i can still answer any questions the "5" of you might have
I'm pretty sure there isn't much left to learn for him as well.
