Shouldn't both 5th placers have the same amount of points since they tied? Same with 7th placers.

lol jailhouse asked the same thing. I don't distribute the point by ties. With this system the 2nd 5th place and 2nd 7th are 6th and 8th. I probably will change how I do the points in season two, but I've done every top 8 like this so far. So I have to stick to it.

I'm starting a Character Ranking system for I:GAU. I always hated how tier list are mostly opinions from palyer to player, so I will be taking the top 8(or 10) from Tournaments to compile a ranks. Hate it or love it, this is just an experiment to see if a mathematical list will coincide w/ the opinion based ones the pros will eventually put together.

The tournaments I will be following are NLBC, WNF, BnB, ECT,NCR, SCR, CW, Vindication, UFGT, TTT, Evo, and VxG. If there are any I am missing please post a link w/ the top 8(or 10) standings, so that I can update the tier list. Thank you!

How is it done? 1st place gets 7 points and continues to descend until everything after 1 point(7th place) is worth .5 points. If a person uses more than 1 character and they get 2nd place both Characters would get 6 points. I've found every I:GAU tournament that's been held since its release and here is the current list...

The Rankings will be updated after each tournament.

...just recalculate it. lol It makes no sense to not have tie points as this is how every single tournament runs by. When one 7th place finishers get twice as many points as the other 7th place finisher...the whole thing will exponentially become innaccurate. Especially as time goes on.

I like the idea and to see where it goes. But it is absolutely necessary to make the change to reflect tie placements and point equivalency

You should start season 2 today then. lol. And it is not what the players want. It is just what is mathematically logical and inherent to your point system working to fit your original intentions!

But that doesn't make sense because they are tied and the points would be distributed based on whatever order I put them in.

This thread is dumb. You take away what the players are doing with the characters. Its the players that win the tournaments not he character.
As of now 8 characters arent even usable are not even rated. And the best zoner in the game is ranked last. Its too early to even make lists.

this isnt about the players. its purely about which characters have been doing well in tourney

This shouldn't be treated as a tier list. It's more like a character stock market. The best results will be captured in the long run.

I really dont like to think of this as a stock market(mainly because it fuckin isn't). In a stock market values rise and fall. In this a characters value never falls. It just simply shows which characters see the most play in Top 8. So , calling this a stock market may be the most ignorant statement in the whole thread.

It's only tough if there's like 6 streams going on at the same time. Other than that it's no problem at all. Most of the info I need is on challonge.com then I just watch the streams to see what character each person uses. Most of them I know by heart already though.

You should do a Mario Kart style of point distribution with top 8.

First place gets 8 points all the way down to 8th place getting 1 point.

I find this thread fascinating and I am curious to see where it leads. I have to agree with the assessment that fifth and seventh places need to be evaluated on the same point value, though, and I think a recalculation based on that would definitely be in order. It'd be neat to see people do things like this for every new game, and I hope it catches on.

I agree. The tournament players are all saying that 5/7th places need to be given the same amount of points, so after Evo, for Season 2 I will change that. Also I'm changing the way points are distributed.

Season 2 point system will look like this.

1. 7 points
2. 4 points
3. 3 points
4. 2 points
5. 1 points
7 0.5 points
