*Old school Tekken players. It's because the game is legacy for so many years, decades. For someone like me, who played her hardcore since around the 04-05 time, I want my Julia. The one I grew to love. The elbow dash combo Julia. Not Rey Mysterio Julia. You don't see people talking bad about people's characters if it's Nina, or Paul, or Bryan. It tends to be towards newer characters often.
Kuma and Roger that get a pass because they are OG's too, but the later release sillier route Namco took gets heavy criticism from a lot of the older crowd. Mainly because we went from-
Tekken 3 new characters being people like Jin, Eddy, Hwoarang, Xiaoyu. True martial arts representations.
Tekken 4 newcomers being people like Marduk Steve and such. 5 brought Feng and Asuka.
But by Tekken 5 DR to current you had newcomers like Lars, Claudio, Alisa, Lili, Julia transformed to Jaycee, Bob, Lucky Chloe, etc.
Some people think the later direction brought more fun and juice to the series, but for others it feels like more stupidity was added.
Though if she was brought back through DLC, I would hope that a costume set would maybe change some of the move properties so both sides of the fence could get what they want.
This argument will always read like a pile of bullshit to me.
Ridiculousness in T1:
-Two fighting robots
-A man wearing a jaguar head that speaks only in roars and later his sequel
-Another man wearing a jaguar head that speaks only in roars but also wears a full suit of armor and later his sequel
-Karate bear that later gets replaced by a second Karate bear who is his son seeking revenge
-An actual devil
-A cyborg ninja-samurai with a spirit sword
Ridiculousness in T2:
-A literal fucking ANGEL
-Boxing kangaroo
-Boxing dinosaur
Ridiculousness in T3:
-A cyborg zombie soldier
-Exploding elderly scientist
-Disco fighter
-Fuckin' Gon
-A big green ancient Mayan alien and his weird chimera transformation
-A karate panda
-A practice dummy made out of wood that is magically brought to life flawlessly mimicking every martial art
Ridiculousness in T4:
-Combot, a second type of fighting robot
-Literally just Lee again but somehow dumber and cooler
Ridiculousness in T5:
-Super demon grandpa
-Blade minus the vampire stuff
-A dainty rich girl who fights by flipping around and spinning dangerously
Ridiculousness in T6:
-Swedish anime man
-A third type of fighting robot, this time it's a girl.
(No Bob does not count as he is inspired by martial arts legend Sammo Hung and doesn't have anything notably unrealistic over the other non-supernatural martial artists.)
Ridiculousness in TR:
Vampire, which given the fact that we started with devils, isn't too crazy for this series.
Ridiculousness in T7:
-Pop star fighter(who doesn't actually bring anything alien to the series as it's has cutesy moe since Xiayou and Panda, and a fighter dancer representing a hyper-specific genre of music since Tiger Jackson)
-Giant mutant man
-Guy with soul powers
-Devil woman with teleporting tiger
-Actually just the real Akuma somehow
TTT1 & TTT2 excluded due to the fact that those are supposed to be fully non-canon dream games with no actually legitimately new characters added.
It's insane to me how people draw lines for shit that is actually tamer than what came before it.
There was never a fully serious Tekken, every character has haters, and not every "OG" player has cringey nostalgia blinders up ignoring all of the early silliness.
Even the fighting styles of a lot of the original characters have goofy stuff in them.
